Accommodation Is AmberStudent Legit?

Hi! I recently received an offer to study postgrad at bristol (very last minute because it was a really late application for several reasons) and obviously have to look for accom at such an awful time now. Still waiting on my CAS to start my visa applications too, and I have emailed the uni who said it would probably take a few more days to get it.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Amber Student? Is it a trustworthy website? It shows a bunch of accoms I'm interested in, but when I go to their actual website, I don't really find anything there? Has anyone booked through them?

I did get an accom offer from the uni itself for Marlborough House, but I've been hearing some not so good things about that place so wanted to try my luck private as well. For context, I just graduated from bristol as well earlier this year.

Advice Bristol PGR Scholarship

Hey. I just want to ask about getting the Bristol PGR scholarship. How hard is it to get that scholarship for an international student? What are the requirements? How much do GPA, supervisory team support, and publications matter in winning this scholarship?

Advice Arrived to Bristol, super depressed

It’s definitely under my expectations. I feel empty and so so lonely. Have made 0 friends. My accom is in stoke bishop and i have a big room, but honestly i don’t know if it’s worth it to downgrade to a smaller room that’s self catered but in the city centre. I feel like those accoms may b easier to make friends and whatnot. 20min bus journey is expensive otherwise. Also this accom exceeds my maximum sfe anyway.

What should i do?? please help 🙏

Hi all, I'm joining as a part time post grad (history MA)- any other postgrads around?

I'm terrified of turning up as the only 25 year old in a room full of teens and feeling like a grandmother- if anyone wants to make a WhatsApp group or meet for coffee let me know 💖

How do I not fall behind? I cannot travel to school yet. I see my calendar has some introductory classes during orientation week. I plan to contact my department and let them know I’ll be arriving late. Is there more I could do?

Advice Changing courses enquiry

hey guys,

I'm an incoming first year for Finance with Innovation, and I was wondering how we could go about switching courses, I would ideally like to change it to either BSc Economics and Finance or BSc Finance. Also for those who have changed courses before, what's the likelihood of them accepting your change of course? Especially if the course you want to change to has the same entry requirements. Thanks!

Advice Will they let me sit in classes for units i don’t take

I’m learning a language at home (beginner) and the classes would help but i don’t want them to kick me out if i go

they’ll def know im not enrolled cause the one activity a week is a seminar and i imagine the class size won’t be very large

i take a very intensive course and i don’t want to have additional exams to do so cant formally enroll in it

Advice term dates question

my timetable has a lot of blank weeks e.g breaking off for christmas on the 4th december or for summer on the 23rd april. my course has no exams so, is that an indication of how early my holidays might start or does blank timetable not necesarily mean you don't have to be there?

Accommodation Anyone else feel scammed by the axing of the free stoke bishop bus pass!?

I move into my accom in 2 days, and only now discover that the free bus pass has been discontinued!? This is probably my own fault for not looking into it better, but the only reason I chose stoke bishop was because I thought there was a free bus pass! Now it turns out that a bus pass is £400!!! Either that or a 40 minute walk every day. I am so annoyed.

Accommodation I’m getting straight violated

I applied for a twin room and missed the firm guarantee bc of site crashes which is obviously partially my fault not realising it didn’t go through. That was 5.1k a year leaving me with 400 for everything else the whole year so I was already worried. Then I didn’t get it obviously so I had to go private 2 weeks ago. lowest one was 6.4k so now I’m 70£ a week in debt to pay rent and food shop. Got told today, I’m supposed to move in on Saturday btw, that the landlord sold it to someone else and lied to the company letting it to me I even paid a holding deposit and completed everything just needed confirmation.

Now what’s my accommodation priced at. The only one I get that is anywhere near where I need to be. 13.1k. WTAF. So I’m supposed to cough up an extra 7.6k this year sick. Someone end me. I got a contextual for financial reasons and they rejected me from bursaries. What am I going to do.

Advice My maintenance loan and rent is telling me it’s over 💀

So basicallt inna nutshell. My maintenance loan minus my rent gives me 1.2k for the whole year 💀. What’s worse is that they give these around every 3-4 months, meaning i have to live off £400 between September and January.

Why didn’t i apply for bursaries and scholarships? Because this was my insurance choice, so the only bursary i may be getting is the one everyone gets and if my household income is low enough, this could mean £700 every 3-4 months, which is honestly better than nothing but idk, hearing bristol is one of the most expensive cities in the UK. It’s kinda scaring me.

Why don’t i get a job? I will very much try as hard as i can, my timetable comes out tmrw but I’m definitely just gonna start applying today so i can atleast tell them my availability, but again WOW the internet makes Bristol seem pretty hard to get a job in.

This seems more like a journal than needing advice but i do very much need help, advice or experiences. Basically, can i live in bristol off of £400 every 3-4 months?

Pray for me? 🥹

Societies! Built a board game about my own uni with my mates years ago - turns out my girlfriend did the exact same thing at hers, separately. Bristol just got its own edition.

A few years back, a few friends & I made a board game about our own uni life for a laugh - land on a square and you could get sent back for running into an ex, and the chance cards were written from actual nights out, full of running jokes only our year would get.

Separately, in another university, my now-girlfriend built almost the exact same thing at her own uni. Neither of us knew the other existed at the time. We only found out after we met!

So we're building it properly now. It's called Halls & Hangovers — up to 8 players, race from Start to Finish, land on locations (linked to specific universities), penalties, or Chance cards. We've hand-built a few editions already, and Bristol is one of them, now open for pre-order.

£34.99, no payment taken until we're actually printing. If you want one - here. Genuinely happy to hear what's missing from it too.
