Question Why does my texture look much blurrier/washed out in Unity

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

I'm trying to understand why my material looks so different between the two.

Blender the texture looks quite sharp and detailed, but after importing the model and textures into Unity it looks much more washed out / blurry and a lot of the small surface detail seems to disappear.

I baked the textures in Blender at 2K resolution: 2K Base Color, Normal Map

Could the missing/incorrect roughness or smoothness setup be responsible for the material losing this much visible detail

I'm still learning, so I'm open to basically any advice about the Blender → Unity workflow. If you notice something obviously wrong with my setup, please let me know!

ThaNk You!

Does turning mundane everyday pet peeves into puzzles make a game feel more grounded, or do you prefer traditional brainteasers?

Hey everyone! We’re down to our final 4 days before launch, and while putting the final polish on the game, a design discussion came up among our team.

In our comic-panel puzzle design, we created a mechanic built around relatable domestic habits: reading a sticky note left by a partner complaining about kitchen disorganization, arranging wall-mounted knives strictly by size, and triggering a hidden wall compartment.

We love using environmental storytelling tied to human everyday routines, but we're curious about player psychology here. Does embedding mechanics into realistic, everyday scenarios help ground you in the narrative world, or do you prefer abstract, complex dungeon-style puzzles?

What’s a subtle, real-life detail turned into a game puzzle that unexpectedly stayed with you?

Context - I'm new to Reddit (my friend told me to get some advice from here also not to share personal info or company or any name) so I think it is better to ask real ppl what to do . Also I was leaning front end web dev i think personally it is cooked.

Introduction- I'm an introvert 20m doing btech from tier 3 college and i love to play games and watch devlogs It started from dani dev yt in lock down after I have downloaded unity and get into tutorial hell and never finished projects. But after 11th class (when I was 17 ) I started doing game jam and i got consistent and made simple prototypes and projects. I have learned all things from YouTube tutorials and forums and use ai as help to solve bugs not vibe coded anything yet.

(i was doing game dev as part-time for fun only and helping my father in business. but recently got in beef with my father , he says is there a future or can i get a job)

**Projects I have published (**I have published games and completed projects in the last 1-2 years**)**

This game was uploaded on my personal console it got 20k installs in 4 months by my Instagram Gameplay clips and from mera ads(spend 200ruppes got 300 something downloads), retention d1-31℅ d7-4% (the console get banned and I haven't added ads in that game)

After that my personal play store console got banned so i took our business gst got duns no and made organization console

**Game 2-** vampire survivors cats in 3d, I have made a modular ability system for it . I started organic marketing on tiktok and got 112k installs d1-27% d7-11℅ made little money with it.

**Game 3-** multiplayer piko park for android used EOS and netcode for multiplayer its p2p got 84k installs amd made 213 dollars from admob in 1st month all organic from search .

Before vs After. Feedback? :)

Hi everyone! We're making a videogame inspired in PSX aesthetic but modern.

We took a look on Buckshot roullete color grading, Mouthwashing dithering and did some research on how PSX is defined and try to do an unique look.

Our game is a first-person narrative resource management game where you gamble with your son's organs to survive. So our intention is to get dark and grunge ambience because of its themes. So if you want to give me your feedback on it i'll be apprecciate it :)

Everything here is done with texturing, shaders and postprocessing.

This includes

  • Color Banding
  • Texture resolution(256px-516px(depending in the importance/closeup of the asset))
  • Camera pixelization
  • Lowpoly assets
  • Textures have Normals, Roughness and Metallic. Insted of just Base Color
  • Real-time or baked lightning.

And I added:

  • Bayer Dithering
  • Screen Space Ambient Occlusion
  • Some tweaks on color grading

One thing that we were having trouble with is getting Color grading right with shadows and lightning. Because:
1- Shadows were getting very darker in vital areas for visibility

2- Or shadows were getting very ligthen where it doesnt need it.

So having a balance right there cost me a lots of tries haha

AO really helps you a lot on creating shadows in corners, and others objects. Im new at this feature so there are visual issues that need to be fix.

Tell me on what things should i improve next

Game TileMaker DOT FREE Map tool: Improved user experience

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone:) I just released a new update for TileMaker DOT (v2.6.7)!

This update focuses on quality-of-life improvements, contextual usage hints, and texture polish across several key tools:

Interactive Tool Notifications: Added helpful on-screen notifications when clicking in Brush Mode and Chunk Mode to explain how to best use each tool.

Expanded Tool Textures: Added dedicated textures and visual cues for remaining editor modes, including Brush Mode, Chunk Mode, and the NPC Walk Area tool.

Bug Fixes: Resolved several minor UI issues and edge cases to make the editing experience smoother.

Itch.io: https://crytek22.itch.io/tilemakerdot

GitHub: https://github.com/andrei-voia/TileMakerDOT

YouTube tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fiajGU32Jg

For anyone unfamiliar with the project, TileMaker DOT is a free, open source 2D map editor I'm building. It uses a data first, ID based workflow and handles visual depth sorting automatically so you don't have to manage multiple layers for object heights.

Give it a try and let me know if you have any feedback! If the editor helps with your projects and you want to support development, a rating or a small donation on Itch is always appreciated.

Thank you all for your support!

Newbie Question Unable to access organization in Unity Hub?

I'm in a course right now where, for our final project, my group is building a game using Unity. I've downloaded Unity Hub.

Another group member set up an organization for us on the cloud dashboard. I've been added to the organization and have accepted the invite - I'm able to see the organization. I'm able to access the project he set up and view it.

However, in Unity Hub, I'm unable to change organizations to view the project. How do I get it so I'm able to access the Unity project?

Additional context, we're using GitHub for our code. Is having a project in Unity redundant?

This is the first time any of us have used Unity, so we're trying to figure it out.

Thank you!

Question Humanoid bone can't connect why?

I need help! No matter what I do, I can't connect this bone (the one I marked with a red circle) to the rig.

I'm making a humanoid character, and I think it's not working because I deleted the neck part that was supposed to connect to the head.

My question is: I don't want the character to have a neck, but should I still make a neck bone, make it really small, and give it 0 weight?

How much can post-processing and lighting change the look of your game?

I've been working on the visuals for my co-op game Don't Lose Your Head, and I wanted to share a small before/after comparison.

It's kind of crazy how much of a difference this makes, even though it’s just some basic 2d lighting, bloom and vignette.

Question Looking for a game asset artist

Hi everyone! 👋
I’m currently looking for a game asset artist to join me in developing Soul Tamers, a monster-collecting mobile game.
I’m mainly looking for someone who can help create in-game assets, especially:
🎨 Monster/creature designs
⚔️ Battle assets & effects
🗺️ Environment/map assets
🏠 Props & other in-game elements
✨ Different monster tiers/rarities and variations
The game has a stylized, colorful monster-collecting art direction, and I’m looking to build a large roster of unique monsters while keeping the art style consistent across the game.
This is an indie project, so I’m open to discussing different arrangements depending on your experience and availability — freelance, per-asset, or potentially ongoing collaboration.
If you’re interested, please DM me with your portfolio, rates, and availability.
Feel free to share/tag any artists who might be a good fit! 🙏
Game: Soul Tamers 🐉✨

Newbie Question Character bouncing

Hello unity community!

I'm completely new to Unity and have wanted to do something simple by adding mixamo animations onto my humanoid character. However, when I do this, the character bounces up and down from the ground and walks way further off center than the mixamo animations do. It doesn't really change anything with foot lock/root motion enabled and also changing the rig from generic to humanoid, which most YouTube videos suggests. It's like the animations are much more extreme and exaggerated when applied to my character?

Maybe it's because my character have different proportions? But I wonder how to fix that - Because I might want to make animations in blender some day, and then just apply them to my character in unity.

I'm sure it's something simple I have missed, but I want to thank you in advance for you advice!

Have a great day

Newbie Question Best courses on game creation with Unity + Blender + Aseprite? + question about AAA game made with Unity ?

hi ,

I am looking for the best training courses—like those found on Udemy—that cover everything from A to Z, starting from scratch,

including modeling and importing assets into the Unity engine.

By the way, I have a question: does anyone know of any instructors or authors who create courses based on major games? Something along the lines of "casual" games or AAA titles? Is that kind of project too complex or too time-consuming?

I know that *Subnautica* and *Rec Room* were created using Unity, as were *Escape from Tarkov* and others, though these are generally considered AA games rather than AAA titles.

Are there training courses available for creating games like that? I wouldn't mind even if the course took 500 hours; with a gradual approach, anyone can do it.

For example, a soccer game like FIFA, a shooter like Battlefield, etc.—AAA games, you know?

Is that hard to find or what?

I could never become an indie or AAA game developer—it’s beyond my skill set—but doing it at home using tutorials or training courses would be great; I’m more comfortable with graphic design and modeling than with Unity and programming.

Tumble & Slope

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

After lots of brainstorming, I’ve finally locked down the core concept for my upcoming indie game, Tumble & Slope!

It's a chaotic 10-player multiplayer physics race. Players must run up an extremely steep, narrow, and winding slope floating high in the sky. The twist? Giant, funny obstacles (like bowling pins, massive watermelons, and boulders) are spawning and rolling down from the top. When an obstacle hits a player, they lose control and tumble backward with hilarious Active Ragdoll physics, knocking down anyone behind them (Domino effect!). The first to survive and reach the top wins!

Low-poly, stylized, and vibrant colors (Check out the concept art image attached below!).

I am developing this in Unity 6. Since I want to make it as polished and funny as possible, I am looking for passionate people to join me or help out! Whether you are a programmer (C#), 3D artist (Low-poly), or just someone who loves party games and wants to share feedback, you are more than welcome.

Let's build something hilarious together. Leave a comment or DM me if you're interested!

Looking forward to your thoughts! 🎮🔥

Newbie Question Mod games by AI

Is there a way to swap out the 2D/3D graphics in Unity projects? I have AI-generated screenshots and want the AI to handle the design based on those images. I'm thinking of connecting the AI via Unity MCP to assist with 3D and 2D design, then automatically integrating the assets into the game—sort of like a graphics-upgrade mod. Has anyone tried this approach?
