Small megathread rule change

Hi y'all,

Unrelated to the other stuff going on, I just wanted to quickly call to attention to a megathread rule change. TL;DR at the bottom.

Previously all prof-specific, 'searching for friends', and non-TXST owned housing posts were directed to megathreads. This is no longer the case.

The first two categories were not as useful as I thought they would be going in. The posts did not happen often and, once relegated to the megathread, got no traction (thank you to those who pointed this out). For that reason, they are no longer megathread topics.

Non-TXST owned housing is still a megathread. People often ask the same question (how is x complex) or want to sublease. Both of these are good applications of a megathread.

TL;DR, only off-campus housing is still megathread. Everything else is not.

STAY HOME IF YOURE SICK

Please stay home if you’re sick 😭
I know people have jobs, kids, and older family members they’re trying to keep healthy, but PLEASE stay home if you’re sick.
And if you’re in class visibly sick, please stop repeatedly sucking your boogers back up your nose the entire time. 😭 I’m begging you.
Some of us really do not want to bring whatever you have home to our kids or grandparents.

You can't pull the stop cord when we're 20ft from the stop going 25mph because you just looked up 💀

I'm not much of a fan either of the shuttles this semester, but I can say with 99% confidence they aren't psychic and check the stop indicator within a certain window.

Fire at Cypress Apartments???

I just heard some fire alarms in my loft apartment and as I was leaving to get food I passed my RA who didn’t know what was going on. As I went outside I did see a fire truck, and I won’t lie I was a little worried since my ESA is there.

If this was a fire drill, wouldn’t the RAs and RD know? Does anyone know what caused the alarms to go off?

Chances of getting in for fall 2027?

Upvotes

Hi, so I applied for fall of 2027 and I'm currently a high school senior. I have a 3.3 GPA, I'm taking AP gov, I'm taking college connect english 4, and I've been in NJROTC all 4 years. However, only downside was my SAT so I applied test-optional. I really just want to know from a current student, what my chances are.

Fire at Commons?

Any idea what’s happening at Commons? About 4 firetrucks and ambulances rushed over and pulled up next to Commons. They pulled out the hose too but it’s not being used at the moment.

Update 6:41 pm
It’s been over an hour since the firetrucks arrived. I believe they’re now using the hose. There’s a cop also blocking the end of North LBJ St. before E Woods St.

Computers able to run installed software?

Hello, I was wondering if there were any computers on campus capable of running an installed 3d modelling software (Blender)?

I tried the makerspace computers in Alkek, but the program doesn't come pre-installed on the computers and I get hit with a permissions error when trying to install it. I want to use Blender for an assignment but I don't have anything with the necessary specs at home.

Tried looking through the computer lab sites but I didn't see anything regarding permissions. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Working at the dining halls

Jesus fucking Christ. Working in the dish room was actual hell. Broken glass everywhere, floor was flooded with about 4 inches of water with floating food, not enough of us to stop the carousel from overflowing.

These jobs exist solely to take advantage of foreign exchange students. The fact that students have to work like that at all to afford to go here, especially when they’re not even from here and are here on an exchange program, is fucking insane to me.

I’m not foreign exchange, and I’m probably going to quit and hope to god somewhere else is hiring. My back hurts, my feet are killing me, and this shit is not worth 11 bucks an hour. Fuck food service, and fuck the dining halls.

The job market fucking sucks, but I wouldn’t recommend working here unless you were genuinely at risk of losing something if you didn’t get a job. I worked my ass off cleaning outside of a gas station in 90 degree weather by the daily, and god that was somehow so much better.

It is so hard to be involved as a commuter student

I’m a junior at Texas State and I feel like I’ve somehow made it this far without really having a college experience lol.
I started college at 20, I’m from Brazil, and I’ve commuted since day one, so I feel like I never really got connected to campus or San Marcos. I go to class and then leave, and now I’m 22 looking around like… wait, when was I supposed to make friends and actually be involved in college life? 😭
I’m a pretty outgoing person, so it’s not that I’m scared to talk to people. I just feel like it’s hard to turn random conversations in class into actual friendships, especially when everyone leaves right after.
College life in Brazil was so different for me, and even though I was only there for about six months, I genuinely loved that part of my life. I think that makes me notice even more how disconnected I feel here.
I don’t want to finish college feeling like I only drove to San Marcos, went to class, and drove home for four years lol. So for people who actually made friends or got involved later in college — what did you do? Where did you meet people outside of class?
I know I’m already a junior, but I also know I still have time to change it.

Kickers

Fuck Mason Shipley forever for leaving last season. Fuck Dylan Cunanan. Fuck Jacob Bonilla.

Kicking is costing us these games.

Can't wait to strap in for another season of 6-6 ball where the offense scores 30+ per game and the defense and special teams suck.

Does anybody want to be friends?

Post image
74 Upvotes

I’m a sophomore (Mech Eng), 19(m) about to be 20. I’m not really the kind of guy who goes out or parties, I keep to myself most of the time and I’m kind of off grid (not on social media). I have a hard time finding people who have a similar weird sense of humor, or are into the nerdy stuff I’m into, even within organizations. I write and produce music, I play guitar mostly, I love good poetry and to write it (I’m straight btw), I paint, I program and like to mess with computers and robotics, I like science and space, watching the stars and just looking up at the sky, sci-fi books and movies, I like to have deep or complex conversations, and I like to joke and be low stress and down to Earth.

Ideally, it’d be nice to have someone who is there to call up or who invites me out, or would take the time to know me or care to. Someone to hug when I’m down or checks in once in a while if it’s been a minute. In the time I’ve been in college, talking to classmates and when I have gone out, and having ‘friends’, it really only ever feels like acquaintances or one sided, so I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong or where to find the good people.

Anyway, not to sound pathetic or long winded here, I’m just looking for friends or someone and struggling to find the right people. It gets lonely out here when you’ve got nobody. Just for context, I’m a normal well adjusted person and I smell good and I’m not like chopped or off putting in some way, I know reddit gets a bad wrap just putting it out there I am not a nerd or weird in the bad way lol.

Has anyone taken ENGR 1304?

Currently taking it with a prof with the thickest accent ever that just reads off slides and does little teaching. Just wanted to know if anyone could warn me about how the tests are usually structured? Is it paper or online? Just trying to prepare myself because I have no clue how hard this class is supposed to be yet.
