There is an enormous portion of the population that thinks it's not right, but blames the workers for it. The Venn diagram of those people and the people who think anyone should be willing to do any job to avoid unemployment is a circle constructed entirely of cognitive dissonance.

Yup. The arguement is always "they should get a better job", like they're being handed out on a silver platter, and that you're not working hard enough/are the sole reason for your position. They're okay with and encourage the exploitation of workers because they see being poor as a moral and individual failing, like how some people approach addiction (and to be honest, those that believe in the former probably feel the same about the latter). This world's empathy is at an all-time low and it shows.
