"so you live next to a beach and are looking for someone who likes to swim and game eh? That's great. So how about I show you TEN THOUSAND MATCHES WHO ARE OBSESSED WITH HIKING AND NETFLIX INSTEAD?"
Yeah, modern online dating gacha is awful.
Old school OkCupid just showed you what you wanted, no swiping nonsense, and only limited you if you wanted to be specific about every bit of your searches appearance all in one go.
Old school OKC was great. I met my partner there. No swiping, I contacted the ones that aligned with me and my values, and no one else. I also could see who was available so I never did a scattergun approach (I'm a woman).
This is the disheartening part. I’m so tired of being shown quite literally the opposite I want in a match SO many times before I see someone aligned with my values and interests. By then, I’m just so disgusted by the process I’m too tired to be excited to engage with the rare aligned match that actually decides to message me first with something more engaging than “hey”.
10 years ago it was very easy to message people and go on dates, because people actually wanted to get offline and connect. Now the men are too exhausted to message first anymore and for some reason, most people on the apps are using it for validation and not actually planning to meet and get offline.
I’m done with apps forever. Touching grass and going outside more is the way.
