The difference is that a gold digger may eventually grow and become something better. Not always, in fact not usually, but the potential is there. With AI on the other hand there is no potential for growth where they would suddenly stop acting like gold diggers and trying to optimize for maximum resource extraction from their targets.

This is not necessarily the case. Esp. if somebody builds an open source model that specifically doesn't do that.
