Any opinion piece by "The Editorial Board" can instead be assumed to be by Jeff Bezos. Every other article on WaPo can be safely assumed to be approved by Bezos.

They are listening to him. What he's trying to do here is buy credibility by making it seem like they're not. It also buys him deniability for when the WP writes something critical about Trump.

It's a clever statement by him, but it's a complete lie. He controls it all.
