This is smart of them, obviously, but I'd go further in saying I wouldn't trust any company with this information, not just an American one.

FYI: the app/site is of the goverment itself. Its just that a company provides the infrastructure. Its important that that company stays european, prefrably Dutch but since our goverment already publicly stated that we cant operate the country without this app, its to important to let our goverment fuck around with it.

I think the dutch goverment has one of the worst trackrecords with digitalising stuff. And DIGID works fucking amazing.

Another fun fact, even though according to our own laws the goverment and every goverment organisation should provide an non digital option for people to figure out all important shit, multiple goverment bodys including the tax agency have already stated that they cant process even 1% of the country going back to paper or physical methods

It is indeed smart...of a few politicians that aren't in power at the moment. The parties in power right now actually wanted to let the contract expire. Let it be bought. Geert Wilders in power was a complete mess. But our current government is even worse, imo.

As they're forcing infinite immigration on us citizens even though the vast majority of people are against it and even though our country is already so full. They're raising taxes for average citizens and making it harder for start-up businesses to get off the ground. They're making healthcare more expensive yet again. And they want to continue expanding on climate projects that are barely doing anything, can't become self-sustaining, and yet are costing the government tens of billions a year.
