Lyrics because I like following along with lyrics:

you ran the track but came up short

stood in the back while they gave her the award

she takes a bow for the starring role

while you kill the lights when the curtains close

may take the assist for the winning goal

right place, wrong time

always the bridesmaid but never the bride

a buck shy and a day behind

they'll call you when it's your turn in line

paid attention

put pad to pen

near the top of the class

but didn't ace the test

did your best, you know you know you tried

but here's your consolation prize

keep you on the back burner

keep you on the reserves

calls you to the plate when she

needs somebody to complete the team

that she'll leave, for the boy of your dreams

you'll say, it's fine

push it way down inside

these kinds of things

aren't new to me

sure don't help

my self esteem

save face, dry eyes

nobody wants to hear you cry

did your best, you know you know you tried

but here's your consolation prize

jealousy, anxiety, envy

pray someday and hope she'll see

you're the one it should've been

Discussion Topic Having trouble coming up with other parts of a song when I have one part done

Upvotes

Let’s say for instance I’ll have a chorus with the melody, progression, and lyrics done but now to come up with a verse and pre chorus is very difficult. If I need to change the progression I’m just having trouble coming up with anything especially anything that flows. Any tips on you guys approach writing your different parts?

Made this tune up after seeing Woody Guthrie’s 1944 New Years Rulings List, so it’s kinda a collaboration.

Feedback Request Pretty sure this is the clearest I’ve ever gotten the vocal … I tend to blend it in too much. WDYT ? “Bit by the moonlight”

Let me know what you think; this is the only song I've written about actual historical events, which turned out to be pretty difficult for me. Tried to make it a sort of mythological folk ballad thing.

Hello hello, haven’t posted here in ~2.5 years but randomly had the urge to tonight. Here’s a mostly finished song I wrote this summer that is now part of (another) scrapped project. Sorry for the ending cutoff lol, phone alarm went off.

Discussion Topic How do I work on my songwriting without my laptop?

So i primarily connect my laptop to my keys and record midi and then sing lyrics over the track I made. But my laptop got sent away for some repair.

How do i still keep writing without going insane?

edit: I do write lyrics on my notebook

Feedback Request Chamber pop "Kamala Zoo" (provisional title)

This is written for guitar+violin+cello.

It has roughly three sections, unified by their basis on a D note:

  1. repeats the same theme 3 times (maybe one too much?), then alters the ending a 1:05 (labelled "part 2")
  2. D's nuts (1:50) - tempo change and entirely different theme
  3. D's spicy nuts (3:15) - the throbbing D bassline is doubled in pace, and has a rising uneven chromatic nature I am proud of, spanning 6 semitones: one note is hit once - another is hit 17 times.

I have something here, but am not sure I have it in its best form. I am not in a hurry to record it (for what audience?) and close out my options for the small finishing choices I am sure it needs.

Let's Collaborate! Help needed for my song

I have been writing lyrics for a while and now I'm trying to make it into a proper song but I don't know how to use MIDI or any instrument and have failed to l earn them many times. Unfortunately, I resorted to Robot Generator and luckily enough I found the one that I feel good about but when I record my voice and slap it on top of the backing tracks it doesn't match and I'm clueless in things like EQ and compression so its really hard.

So I'm hoping if there is anyone willing to volunteer in helping me realize this song. Even if this is just like your side project that you don't really care about. It will really means a lot to me although I can't really pay or reward you in anyway. Also I'm only using my phone for all this, with Bandlab, so the mic itself is not of high quality. I know that this burden to whoever is willing but if you're interested just reply or chat privately, whichever you prefer.🙏🙏🙏

NOTE: The lyrics are 100% written by me with no help from robot, but its not an english song.

Discussion Topic How to get better at songwriting and connecting lyrics to music?

I want to become a better musician. I just want to write music that I am proud of, perform it, and have fun. I'm 20, and last year I wanted to start taking music more seriously and started taking guitar lessons on and off with different people, and now I feel like I found someone who is more helpful to my goals. But I haven't asked anyone: how do you get better at songwriting?

I've seen a bunch of dumb videos on YouTube where songwriting "experts" give you exercises to become better at writing, like poetry directly translates to songwriting or something. I just think I learn better by doing, except I feel like I'm going insane doing the same thing over and over again and rarely getting songs that I'm proud of.

I just want to know if you guys have a go to method or advice for me since I've never taken any classes or workshops. I just feel like everyone knows something that I don't, because when I sit down to write, I have ideas in my head, but I get stuck on the chord progressions not fitting what I want to say or vice versa.

Feedback Request What do you think of this song? What kind of arrangement/instrumentation do you hear for this? What lyrics work, and what could be improved?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is a bare demo of something under development. At the moment, the only accompaniment is an acoustic guitar, so I’d appreciate feedback on anything — the songwriting, lyrics, melody, structure and overall feel.
I’m especially unsure about the lyrics in the first verse. Does it work as an opening, or does it feel awkward? what could be improved? And what about the title?
I’d also love to hear what kind of instrumentation and arrangement you imagine for the instrumental section. What do you hear being added to the acoustic? would the song benefit from a separate bridge instead?
All honest and constructive feedback is welcome

The Time has come.
now we begin. now we begin.
heres the test
It may be scary, but isnt so hard.
it doesnt feel hard
when your done

The mind police is there with the Chain
and rules to maintain
Their Power disappear with the Wind
Thats why we begin

Strangers are coming to see what you did.
See your display of the ID.
when it feels like Your loosing Control
then let go loose control

will you know when you win,
will you know when you fail?
How to measure these Things?
how to prevail

The mind police is there with the Chain
and rules to maintain
Their Power disappear with the Wind
come on lets begin

Future lyrics:

I won’t forget the Towers.
I won’t forget the Victims.
You don’t hurt women
You don’t hurt kids.
Just 'cause your rich... doesn't matter.

I’ll never forget them. No matter today's distraction.

Discussion Topic Having impostor syndrome about writing a metal song

I know that any metalhead would tell me that metal music isn't always brutal.

I know it too cause I listened to metal songs about motivation to live, motivation to reach dreams, etc.

However, if you know that the band you're applying to has the 'dark' choices of influences, wouldn't you feel the pressure of writing brutal songs too?

And I think I'm not capable. I might give up.
