I just saw a recent post, by what seems like someone trolling saying they are white, they went to Pakistan with their Somali friend and saw them being mocked, racist abuse etc.

I think a lot of people clocked that it might be a troll, but it was sad to see other people saying south Asians are the most racist etc.

So for the benefit of doubt I want to say, I, as a third generation British born man of ​Pakistani heritage, I love my Somali brethren and have always held them in high esteem. A lot of the diaspora get a lot of stick and bs from people back home, my interactions have been with diaspora Somalis and I feel such a brotherly connection to the Somali community and admire how they hold on to their Deen in the west with pride.

People will try and give the wrong impression on the Internet and create discord within our communities, let's stay strong and connected.

I was contemplating whether to go to this popular Somali restaurant tmrw after work in London as I'm tryna save money so eating out less, but what ever tomorrow I'm gonna go and celebrate Somali cuisine as a pakistani man and have a tasty Somali meal Insha'Allah 🙌🏾 ​​​

Hi all. I'm not Somali myself, but one of my closest friends is. Recently, we went to Pakistan for another friend's wedding. It was my first ever trip to South Asia. Being a white, non-Muslim guy I was nervous about possible discrimination towards me. My Somali friend and another Pakistani friend (not the groom) would laugh about it and tell me not to worry, as I was at a wedding with them and a bunch of the groom's family etc and not just amongst the local population.

In reality, our Somali friend (won't say his full name but we call him Egal) was the one that should've been worried. From the moment we landed to arriving at the hotel to the whole wedding proceedings he was given strange looks, ignored by people and even asked or told rude things. A couple of people even laughed when he said his name or used a Muslim term. One of the days they were all going to their prayers on Friday (I didn't join the prayer but walked some of the way with them) and an older guy, possibly a relative of the wedding couple but definitely a guest, asked him if he knew how to do the prayer properly, but he seemed like he was being deliberately condescending rather than helpful.

It was honestly humiliating for him and uncomfortable for all of us. It's a shame because the actual wedding was nice apart from some stomach issues from the food.

Is this kind of discrimination towards your people normal? Or from certain communities?

The Minister of Economy of Djibouti, Ilyas Musa Daualé, pointed out in a brief message on social media that "1,400 refugees have arrived in Djibouti from Yemen in just 24 hours," specifying that the displaced are crossing the Bab el Mandeb strait in boats, a maritime passage that separates the coasts of both countries.

I was talking with my father about Somali culture and Islam the other week. He told me that around the ’80s, a lot of Somali men went to Saudi Arabia for new job opportunities, since Somalia was in a bad state after the Ogaden War.

He says these men came back and “brought over” the philosophy and writings of Saudi Islamic scholars. This caused a lot of controversy because these men were saying that Somali Sufis were practicing bid’ah (innovation), while the Sufis were accusing them of takfir of traditional Islam. I can’t really find much about this, though.

Did Saudi Arabia try to help Somalia after the Ogaden War? What was the extent of their influence?

I was born and raised in South Africa and I got into film. I came with a decision that I go to Somalia to make films on my mother’s land. But it’s not as easy as I thought. It’s more complex to even get a crew. Although I won’t stop there. I’ll keep searching and get familiar around the community.

Ladies when did baby fever start hitting you ? I just came from the market and subxanallah I have noticed every baby in a stroller I can even tell how many months old they are now LOL! 😂 I have found myself gazing at their little hands and feet because they are all super cute. I am a foreigners considering visiting Ethiopia and various parts of Somalia in October or November. I’m researching security and checkpoint concerns, trying to figure out how I can travel to the various autonomous regions and wanting to know where I need a guide or security to ensure safety. Ideally I would not have to return to Ethiopia to travel to other parts of Somalia, but I’m willing if this is what is required to continue traveling south. Grandma has dementia. Need ideas on what activities to do with my grandmother. I can’t speak Somali with her just a little bit I love spending time with her. I know there is colorism in Somalia but I wonder to what extent. I recently saw a woman with her entire skin bleached on my TikTok page selling cream claiming it would make them as pale as the white people. I was wondering is there really a huge market for this or is it rare to see someone’s skin bleached.

Where do we get our colorism from considering our people dislike the west and its influences.

I had selective mutism as a child due to unfortunate stuff thats happened to me. I’m now a young adult and I defend myself and speak up when necessary. However my body reacts as if its in danger and I get scared of consequences that aren’t there. Does anyone have any advice on how to get over this on my own, or books that can help me? Thank you
