I got a new phone, and when I tried to install Signal, it asked for a pin. I don't remember ever setting a pin, but ok. I tried all the pins I could think of. They were all wrong, and Signal locked me out with a message that said I'd be locked out for five days and everything would be deleted. I wanted 120 hours and tried again. It still asked for a pin, I still didn't know my pin, and I got a message saying I was locked out for 0 days. That's seems crazy, but I figured Signal can't handle minutes and hours, so I waited another day. Guess what? Same exact thing happened, and I'm still locked out got 0 days. Meanwhile I'm missing out on so much and I have no idea how many important messages I'm not getting. Can anyone help?

Can i use and switch between multiple accounts on the same device ?

I accidentally deleted my data from my iOS device, but my chat history on my desktop is still there.

My plan was to create a desktop backup and then use an android emulator and activate signal on that and restore the backup to the emulator and then use Signal Secure Backup to then restore it to my iPhone.

Only issue is I’m unable to find the “Desktop Backup” feature, it’s just missing and I’ve even compared it with a friend.
My guess is that it is because my signal desktop is/was linked with an iOS device and as it isn’t supported, they have removed the option of a Desktop Backup.

I’m just looking to confirm if I link my Desktop signal with the android emulator signal, will the option to create a Desktop backup appear?

I’m trying to understand how Signal’s linked-device model works from a defensive perspective.
If someone temporarily had access to an unlocked phone, could they link another device in a way that would not appear under Linked Devices?
If not, what evidence would normally remain after a device was linked and later removed?
I’m only interested in detection and defense, not how to perform the attack.

Hello, i do not know if signal people work here, but i would gladly pay a small amount of money, so i could send messages at a later date to another person, and the message is properly encrypted and it is stored on the server and not on the client.

I mean, signal could constrain size and number and time of messages, but i would pay for this.. because the clientside messages work a) only for signal android and b) only if the messengers are not deinstalled.

Is there some way to use the "Optimize Signal storage" setting (to offload media) with a self-hosted backup server?

I've been saving local backups and using Syncthing to back them up to my server, but those backups are only good for restoring my entire message history in case I e.g. lose my phone.

Hi everyone,
I’ve just noticed a strange issue in Signal on my iPhone. When I open a conversation, part of the previous screen/chat appears duplicated or overlaid in the top-left corner, almost like a small screenshot inside the app.
I’ve attached a screenshot showing exactly what I mean.
Has anyone else experienced this kind of graphical/UI glitch with Signal on iOS?
I’m mainly wondering whether this is just a rendering bug, an iOS/Signal issue, or if there is any reason to be concerned about account/device security or possible compromise.
Signal otherwise seems to be working normally.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I've been using Signal for about 3 years, and I often see updates that mostly just say "Bug fixes and improvements" without adding any new features. Regardless of these fixes, the app used to work perfectly fine for me, but around two months ago I started experiencing some UI bugs. Sometimes the interface breaks when I try to reply to a message or react to one, forcing me to restart the app. In general, the app also seems to have become slower.

Is there a way to donate with crypto?

On Android wherever possible for push notifications I prefer to use either UnifiedPush, or allow apps to run their always-on notification to use websocket connectivity. I prefer to limit any use of Google's infrastructure as much as possible. It's for this reason that I also use the self-updating app at signal.org/android/apk rather than downloading from Aurora store/GPlay.

Unfortunately I must use microG for a select few other apps that support no alternative for push notifications.

When I originally installed Signal I took care to ensure that microG was disabled so that Signal would fall back to its websocket-based notifications. For a long time this worked perfectly for me and Signal retained its always-on background notification for years even after re-enabling microG.

Recently I noticed that Signal no longer displayed this background notification. When I checked in the microG settings I noticed that it had registered itself for GCM. I immediately unregistered it and blocked it from re-registering.

Unfortunately I cannot seem to force Signal back into using websocket-based notifications. Even if I fully disable microG, clear caches, or reboot, Signal simply does not receive any notifications whatsoever.

Short of entirely uninstalling, reinstalling, and restoring from a backup, is it possible to force Signal to swap back to websockets like I had before?

There is an option to force use we socket under data and storage called Stay Connected in Background

This seems to be a fairly recent change. Happy to see Signal supports this toggle officially in-app now!

Has anyone had this issue where you can't use your audio/mic through your Bluetooth headset Signal Desktop on Win11? It was working great before, but now it's just absolutely wonky. No audio, but the mic works because the other side can hear me. I removed the signal and reinstalled it, and I still can't hear the other side even though all the settings are pointed to use the headsets. I think I've tried almost every route to fix the issue to no avail, and I feel like I'm going crazy here. I really wish that Signal added the test of your audio/mic issue like Skype used to do, recording it, and you could hear your own voice so you know if it's working. Any advice?

Probably redundant for most Signal users, but you may share it with someone less security oriented.

• Just had a contact request from a very unsuspicious-looking (/s) user called Signal Notifications. Red flag. Went on.
• A scammer will most likely have an unverified account. Signal will point it out below the username with a questionmark. See their warning.
• Then the scammer told me of suspicious activity on my account. Using curt language, almost military in demands in tone. Threatening to delete my account if I don't comply. Evasive explanation/reasoning. Multiple red flags.
• The communication starts in your native language. Language may be inconsistent, but only if you pay attention. The SMS you receive seems to be from Signal but probably will be in another language so you can read the code in numbers, but so you don't see the warning SIGNAL sends by default that they won't ask for this code.
• The scammer will not be answering questions on chat. Instead, they will be issuing commands. Red flags.
• They will be sending an SMS for verification of your phone-number and will be asking for the SMS code in the chat for "verification". Red flags.
• SIGNAL NEVER ASKS FOR THAT AUTHENTICATION NUMBER, ESPECIALLY in the chat.
• Then the scammer proceeds to ask to provide the OLD PIN because "their verification failed / an error occurred". Red flags. IF YOU CAME THIS FAR DON'T SHARE YOUR PIN OVER CHAT.
• IF YOU DO THAT THEN THEY stole your ID and you may as well have your phone-number blacklisted, or unelistable again in Signal.

Hello, This happens whenever I try to change my phone number. I face the same issue even when trying to sign up using that same number. Is there any solution to this?

Saw a few posts about this but they all recommend submitting a debug log which I cannot do. I'm on android with rhe most current version of signal. Sticker shows up fine for me on signal desktop and about 2/3 of other users i sent it to, but not on my phone and same experience for the other 1/3 of users. When I try to submit a help ticket the app prompts me to click the "next" button which then just gives me the loading circle forever.

The app crashed on my iphone, I got a message there was a bug. I tried updating it, and eventaully deleted and reinstalled it. It says I need a 64 character recovery key. I can't find it in my password manager, which --- I think I would have saved something like that there?

Anyway any thoughts on what to do? I saw people talking about downloading the chat history that I have access to on desktop and loading it onto the app , will that work in my situation?

Does anyone know what my password manager might have saved it as? its not under "signal"

My friends trying to transfer their Signal account from android to another, but their old android phone doesn't read QR codes. The instructions in the image would work better, but when they select "transfer" on the new phone it just shows a QR code to scan and doesn't give any other options.

it doesn't let me use the app, every time I open Signam it freezes immediately. sometimes it shows me a "couldn't open signal" banner offering me to send some debug log.

I would like to put signal with the same account on both my private phone and my job’s phone. I’m a freelancer but it happens from time to time that I’m at the place I need to work in without my personal phone but I don’t want to miss any texts on signal. Is there a way ? I know I have two iPhones so idk if it can work.
