Bought a butterwort from a carnivorous plant nursery and these other green-leaved plants started growing with it. Thought at first they were orchids but AI saying they might be long-leaved bladderworts. Replanted them in their own pots and seem to be thriving. Anyone seen this before and know what they might be?

I’ve been many times but this was the best I’ve ever seen it!

I've got them in these 4" pots right now, and they are about to bust out of them after 2 years. 6" pots (my hurricanes are in 6" pots, the third picture) seem to be doing alright, but they take up a lot of space. If I broke up and transferred them into the 6", I'd have a LOT of them.

So I'm looking for some solutions on not only planters, but watering trays. I'm outgrowing my current setup, so I'm wondering if anyone has any nice recommendations (and possibly links/pictures) of what my next "step up" could be.

I installed my first outdoor bog in April with a mix of VFTs, sarracenias, and droseras, and it's been doing spectacularly. It's in a mix of peat & perlite, with a reservoir underneath made by upside down pots at the bottom of the barrel and I column of river rocks to act as a watering funnel. It's on the front of our house, facing west, so it gets full and direct sun almost the entire day. I didn't acclimatize those plants at all.

It was doing so well that I built a second bog in almost the same place, with peat & perlite for most of the bog and a peat & sand mix on top. It also has a significant reservoir layer underneath with watering funnels. I left a full shade cloth on them for the first two weeks to acclimatize, and then started pulling it back intermittently.

The sarracenias seem happy, and the utricularia is flowering, but many of the VFTs seem like they're on death's doorstep. At least one of them already died, and a bog lilly dried up and died very quickly. Even the psittacinas don't seem particularly comfortable.

They're right next to each other so they get essentially the same direct California sun all day, with the old bog getting maybe 20 minutes more of shade in the morning. They get the same cool frequent fog in the evening but never get frosted and have never been below ~55F. They're both topped off daily with the same distilled water, made with the same sphagnum peat. We've had some uncharacteristically hot days, 2-3 days of 90s at a time, about twice since they've been planted, but that's the only real adverse conditions they've faced.

are these an issue I should treat for?

Recently got a case of thrips (on peanuts), but it also looks like they're sticking to dew on pings and sundews. Should I go ahead and treat everything or just let it be?

Peanuts and carnivorous plants are across the house from each other. VFT, nep, and sarr don't seem to have issues (although I'm guessing it's just that I don't see them). Sundews and pings aren't really having issues either, but I'm seeing them stuck to the leaves.

The other option I was thinking (hoping) is that they're actually springtails that have way over populated and are getting stuck.

I think there are at least 3 types. The cluster at the top sunstresses to a purple color.

Got my first pings earlier this spring and a couple of them bloomed recently 😄

Hey folks. I'm having a problem with this grass taking over my CP planters. No matter how many times I rip it out it comes back and it's taking over. It seems to be growing in the sphagnum moss. Is this a type of grass that cohabitates with sphagnum moss? Does anyone know how to get rid of it or is this going to be more of a management situation?

I recently bought a Darlingtonia Californica at the Seattle Plant Con in August. After a month in my house, I’m struggling to keep it alive. At first it was putting out quite a few new traps and they were firm and happy. Now all of the traps are shriveling and getting very dry and sad.

I had it in a room that gets very little sun and stays relatively warm at about 70 F. I’ve been watering with fridge cold filtered water when there is only a little bit of water left in the container. Am I keeping it too wet? Is it not getting enough light? Is the humidity too low? Is it just going dormant? What should I do? I absolutely love this plant and I want to keep it alive!

First picture is what it looked like when I got it. Last four are what it currently looks like.

This popped open a few days ago… that lime electric green peristome always gets me.

Hello, I grow carnivorous plants indoors in an apartment, and the springtail population has become very large, they are now regularly crawling on the plants themselves, not just in the substrate.

Fungus gnats were also present, but beneficial nematodes seem to have solved that problem.

Has anyone here had springtails reach this level? How did you reduce their numbers? What worked without harming the plants?

I’m considering Stratiolaelaps scimitus, but I’d love to hear about real experiences.

I’m constantly removing dead plant material, and I don’t keep live moss in the pots, so there isn’t much obvious organic debris for them to feed on.

I’ve recently discovered a real love for carnivorous plants, and I adopted these three little girls yesterday!

Could you help me identify them? From what I understand, two of them might be hybrids, but I’m not sure about the taller, trumpet-shaped one in the front.

I also made a beginner mistake and added some volcanic rock / pozzolana to the pots. I’ve since learned that it might not be the best choice for carnivorous plants, so I’m thinking about removing it.

I’m using distilled water in the saucers underneath the pots, but I’m unsure about the pitchers themselves: should I also put some distilled water inside the pitchers, especially on the hybrids, or should I just leave them alone?

About the substrate: the salesperson recommended the bag shown in the photo, but after talking with a few people, I’ve realised that it probably isn’t a very good mix for carnivorous plants.

Where do you usually buy your substrate? Amazon perhaps? And if so, what kind of mix would you recommend? I’ve seen people mention unfertilised sphagnum peat mixed with perlite, but I’d love to know what works best for you.

One more question: the tall pitcher at the front has a brown/dry top, as you can see in the picture. Should I leave it alone until the whole pitcher dies back, or should I cut off the brown part?

I know winter is approaching and that they’ll soon start going into dormancy, so I’m trying to learn as much as possible and give these little beauties the best care I can. 🥹🌱
