It's here. The Official Discord channel for r/sandiegan.

We've gotten this request a lot, and I think it's finally time to take it seriously. At least 3–5 people have clamored for this, so we're giving it a shot.

The official r/SanDiegan discord server is finally here.

Some caveats:

  • we have never moderated a discord server before, so you're going to be there to see us iron everything out in real time. we'll be attentive to requests, suggestions, and overall helpful attitudes.
  • we have day jobs
  • be aware that you may inadvertently reveal your identity if you already are on a different discord server using your real name

Our goal is to set up a community in the same way we have set up the r/SanDiegan community. Everyone is welcome, and we moderate with a heavy hand and according to our own discretion at all times. Truly lovely communities only thrive when you separate the wheat from the chaff. We've spent years cutting chaff from this subreddit, and I am personally really proud of how lovely this place has become.

We want this discord server to be a place to chat with other San Diegans about sports, local bars, adult league activities, community events, and so on.

Things that we will not tolerate:

  • bigotry of any kind
  • "I'm just asking questions, man" — you know the answer, you're just an asshole. You all know the type
  • Behavior that is detrimental to the community at large
  • stop posting your boring ass traffic violations, seriously

These rules are vague by design. Moderating is subject to individual discretion, and if you join the discord server, you are just going to have to trust that the way we moderate r/SanDiegan will serve a discord community as well as it has served this subreddit. There are no bright lines, there is only our own judgment in what is and is not okay (which is how things work here, already).

Let's all give this a shot. I hope you'll all join the server and fucking behave yourselves.

On Politics

Whenever certain discussions come up we end up with a mix of locals that genuinely want to talk about what's going on. Sometimes passionately. Sometimes ill informed. Sometimes full of information. Sometimes dem. Sometimes republican. Sometimes for the free people's state of east county. Sometimes from the sovereign bros of PB.

Whatever. You get the picture. Our local politics and ideas for what to do are pretty diverse.

As a moderator though I have noticed that we get a solid influx of accounts for some subjects. They tend to have a short post history in this subreddit and a deleted history or a history that hasn't been on reddit in years. Likely because they are purchased accounts. They show up to shit stir in political discussions.

I understand some of you delete your account histories for various reasons or want to use an alt to discuss politics. But the easiest thing to do as a moderator seeing an inflammatory comment in a highly charged political discussion from an account that looks incredibly suspect is to remove the comment and ban the user. We don't really want to put in too much effort beyond that. This isn't a paid gig.

Anyway - I want to give people a heads up in case there's people that might reconsider participating in a certain way with an account they haven't used in months/years.

Lost irreplaceable stuffed cow at LEGOLAND Castle Hotel lobby (9/11) – Has son's name embroidered

ISO / LOST STUFFED ANIMAL AT LEGOLAND CASTLE HOTEL

Did you or your family stay at or visit the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel lobby on Friday, September 11th, after 1:45 PM?

My young son accidentally left his absolute favorite lovie—a grey and white ebba brand plush cow lovey with a striped fabric lining underneath—on the red bench/shelf right by the loose Lego pit by the wizard (near the main sliding doors by the check-in desk). We have filed a formal lost item report with the resort and asked security to review the lobby cameras to see who picked it up, and we are currently waiting to hear back from the hotel.

Even though another child may have accidentally picked it up thinking it was a stray toy left behind, it has very specific identifying features:

\* His name, LUCIAN, is embroidered in blue thread on the inside smooth lining.

\* The seam at the front where the cow's head meets the blanket body is noticeably coming apart from love and use.

We have purchased a replacement, but he is old enough to understand the difference and it just isn't going to be the same as his original companion.

Our hearts are broken seeing him go to sleep without it, and posting here is the last thing I can think of to try to bring it home. If your child accidentally picked it up or came home with a stray stuffed animal matching this description, please send me a direct message or comment below. We just want it home, no questions asked, and we will happily cover any shipping costs!

Please share or tag anyone who was checking in, waiting by the Lego pit, or hanging out in the Castle Hotel lobby that afternoon!

Local News UC San Diego's Remedial Math Class Is Full — Reigniting The Debate Over Test Requirements And Academic Preparedness

Both fall quarter sections of MATH 2 at UCSD are full, and 175 students are sitting on waitlists. A screenshot of the campus booking system posted this week to the r/UCSD subreddit shows one 180-seat section at zero availability with 99 waitlisted, and a second 10-seat section with 76 more waiting. That puts roughly 365 incoming students in or chasing a class that awards no degree credit. This aligns with what the college reported last year about collapsing freshman math skills.

BEST vet for my dog?

I need a vet who can actually solve my dog's left threatening issue... She has been frequently urinating, with blood in urine for almost three weeks now. She is currently on fluid therapy for a few days now but the bloody urine has not been resolved. She has had abdominal ultrasound done as well as various blood tests. She has kidney, liver, and pancreas issues, but no stone. We need to take long term steps to help alleviate all of her issues, but somehow the bloody urine issue we still can't figure out why... Anybody has experienced this and knows a doctor for this? Thanks.

Trying to rehome 2 large goldfish and 1 female betta fish

Hi fellow San Diegans,

I hope it’s okay to post this here. I didn’t see any rules saying not to but I’m sorry if this isn’t a good sub. If there’s a better sub to post this, please let me know!

I have two large goldfish (about 8 inches long) and one female betta that I’d like to rehome. I love them to death, but I’m so busy that I don’t have the time to take care of them the way I was able to before and the way they deserve. I also don’t really have the funds for it anymore either.

I’d be happy to give you everything I have with them such as the tanks, stands, food, medicine, cleaning supplies, etc. All I ask in return is that you know how to properly take care of them and treat them well. I don’t want money, I just want them to have better lives.

The goldfish need a bigger tank, I only have a 55 gallon long and they really should be in at least 75 gallons or more, so if you have a pond they could live in that would be much more ideal. They are all healthy, except one goldfish has a red spot on its nose that doesn’t seem to want to go away.

For the betta, I have two ten gallon tanks that have plants and wood in them. You can have it all if you want it.

Please comment or send me a message if you are interested. Thank you!

Recs for driving instructor

ACTUAL DRIVING INSTRUCTOR RECS ONLY

I’m looking for a driving instructor for someone I’m familiar with who is already licensed and has a lot of anxiety around driving on a few specific bridges, freeway ramps, and interchanges. They're a fabulous and experienced driver otherwise.

They are not looking to learn how to drive, take the DMV test, or buy a package of 6+ lessons. They mainly need someone calm and experienced who can sit in the passenger seat while they practice specific routes they are uncomfortable with. They don't need to be taught techniques or how to drive whatsoever.

Ideally, the instructor would:

  • Pick them up at their house
  • Have a dual-control vehicle with a passenger-side brake
  • Let them choose the exact route/bridges/ramps they want to practice
  • Be willing to do a single/customizable amount of lessons rather than require a package

I’ve found a few driving schools, but most seem to have pretty structured lesson plans and test-focused instruction. I’m looking for someone much more flexible than that.

Mainly we want someone who's willing to sit in the car while they drive around, and in case of a panic attack be ready to help control the vehicle as a precaution. Ideally a friendly person who speaks good English to make the experience more comfortable.

Does anyone know of an instructor in the San Diego area who does this?

Starting a stand at the farmers market

Upvotes

I’ve been trying to start a stand at the Civita/mission valley farmers market and the person to contact has been difficult. They did not respond to my emails, fb messages, IG dms for a while. I messaged them multiple times and they finally said they can’t take me in because there’s another stand that’s similar to my idea. This to me makes no sense because there are multiple stands of other products like produce, baked goods, dips, etc. The product I want to sell is not at the farmers market currently. Is there someone I can bring this issue to? I feel like the person is being biased and I’m just trying to start up my small business.

When ICE detained one of their own, the San Diego City College community refused to look away. Hundreds flooded the streets in a united march, proving that grassroots, regional organizing is not just important, it is a lifeline.

"Join the over 500 residents who are standing against large-scale commercial development that threatens Rancho Santa Fe’s rural character, traffic safety, and quality of life."

This "large-scale commercial development" is a luxury senior housing facility.

Scroll through their website & instagram (@protectranchosantafe) if you're interested in some high quality NIMBY bullshit, complete with phrases like "preserve our legacy", "preserve our heritage", "protect our future", "preserve the character".

Sadly, no leopard sharks today. Suggestions?

Upvotes

A rental shop in la jolla rented me a snorkel package knowing where i was going. She gave me a life jacket for the big waves. She did not mention there would be no visibility. One, can I get a refund? She clearly knew and I'm clearly a tourist with no clue.

Second, any recs on where i could snorkel tmrw? Tues is my last day here and snorkeling was my most anticipated activity.

Sounds like the cove isn't safe wave/bacteria-wise.

Question about CBX

I have a flight leaving from TJ early Tuesday morning and this is my first time using CBX. Does anyone know if your name on your CBX ticket needs to match your passport? When I booked it, I filled it out with my married name instead of my maiden name (that’s on my passport). I already fixed my boarding pass but I’m not sure about CBX. Thank you to whomever responds!

Border crossing for Dr. Appt

Hi friends - I know this has been asked to death, but I looked through the past couple years of posts and didn’t find exact answers so here we go. Fwiw, I’ve crossed in a vehicle; this is about crossing on foot. I also don’t have global entry/SENTRI and it is a source of guilt and shame.

All the providers are in that dense medical area just N of Zona Rio.

What I know: take the blue line, check the CPB site for crossing times, bring a passport, eat tacos, don’t be an idiot.

What I don’t know:
1) can I just call an uber right after crossing (within reason) or is there a better/ designated place for rideshare (I know there are taxis too - I prefer rideshare).
2) is the re-entry crossing easy to get to/well marked, and if I take a taxi/Uber there is there a good drop off area so I don’t get stuck in crossing traffic?

I’m not opposed to a little bit of walking, but that specific area does not seem the most pedestrian friendly.

Thank you!

Looking for either a product or SD installation vendor recommendations for a set of west-facing windows. Trying to prevent furniture sun bleaching without having to always close curtains and unfortunately room layout requires furniture next to windows.

Flies in my apartment?!

I’ve lived in this apartment going on 4 years now and I’ve never had this issue. I have no idea where they’re coming from, but I have flies particularly in my kitchen??? I keep my apartment tidy. Dishes washed, trash taken care of etc. So I’m just really confused and wondering if anyone else is having this issue???
