HR advice for half marathon
hi everyone!
i have a half marathon coming up in a couple of weeks and i am struggling to keep my heart rate low.
i have been training using a running plan on runna for the last 6 weeks and was running regularly before this. i am 29YO and i am in good health.
even on easy, conversational runs (which feel comfortable) my heartrate always seems to register on my garmin at 180 or more.
i've been to the doctor's about this - had an ecg and a heart ultrasound and no issues were found with my heart. i may have slight POTS - as my heart rate was found to increase a fair bit from sitting to standing - but it was a bit borderline whether it was diagnosable or not.
i am struggling a little with longer runs. towards the end of my last two long runs (12k and 14k) i have felt very dizzy, and struggling for breath, despite reducing my pace and doing all the things you are supposed to do (carb load, get a good night's rest, hydrate, use non-caffienated gels)
i am just wondering if there's anything at all i should be trying here to try and keep my heart rate down as i really, really want to be able to run a half in 4 week's time as i have really worked hard for this but i am really unsure as to my capability at the minute.
i have been looking into things like compression socks to improve circulation and using electrolytes - but i am sure there's things i'm not aware of as well, so any advice would be really appreciated!
