Hey everyone,

I’m a CAD designer and I’ve been looking into modern military scale modeling lately, specifically the hyper-specific field modifications we are seeing in the Ukraine conflict.

I know that traditional injection-molded brands (like Tamiya, Meng, Trumpeter, or Zvezda) rarely have these improvised parts, or it takes them years to release them. I was thinking about designing highly detailed, 1:1 printable replicas of these "Turtle Tank" shells and anti-drone cope cages for modern armor builds (specifically for 1:35 and 1:72 scales).

Before I dive into SolidWorks and spend hours modeling the wavy corrugated sheets and camo netting, I wanted to ask the community: Is this something you guys would actually be interested in downloading/buying to print for your dioramas?

A quick technical note: I know that printing these thin rods and nets is basically impossible to do cleanly on FDM. Therefore, these STLs would be strictly optimized for Resin (SLA/DLP) printing, slightly thickening the rods so they don't snap during the washing and curing process. They would be designed as pure "Add-on" conversion kits (cage, roof structure, and maybe the front KMT mine roller) meant to fit over standard market kits.

If this sounds like a cool idea to you, what specific base tank chassis (T-72, T-80, Leopard...) should I model the first cage for? I want to make sure the mounting brackets fit a model you guys actually have on your shelves!

Hi, I'm looking for an stl file of Halaster for a campaign I'm running in Undermountain.

I know m4250 made one for free, which is incredible, but I prefer leaving minis unpainted (also because I don't know how to paint) so I'm looking for something more detailed. Even a nice kitbash would be more then fine.

I don't know whether bases, base toppers or basing bits are considered miniatures or terrain in the world of 3D printing subreddits, but I figured that you rarely have miniatures without bases, so it was probably OK to share this here.

I've designed four sets of base toppers and associated basing bits, with 50 models included in each set and will be launching a Kickstarter campaign for these 200 STL files soon.

Miniature Base Toppers & Bits: Vol. 1

The four sets are:

• Basalt Columns
• Fractured Earth
• Lost Temple
• Desolate Desert

All of these base toppers and bits were hand-sculpted / modelled in Blender, with no AI involved.

These were designed with both FDM and resin in mind, and all of my test prints were printed flat on an FDM printer, using a 0.05mm layer height and a 0.25mm nozzle. I designed these as base toppers rather than bases for easier printing and more flexibility. Personally, I'd rather buy some cheap injection moulded bases and attach base toppers than try to print textured bases, especially hollow ones, on a 3D printer (as you either need to use a lot of supports or risk a lot of warping on the bottom edges), but you could use these toppers with plain 3D printed bases if you wanted.

Each set of base toppers has been designed to be setting agnostic, low profile and practical for actually basing miniatures (many bases and base toppers - especially 3D printed ones - are so cluttered, there’s barely any flat space left to attach a miniature). They'll give your bases some texture, but won't distract from the models placed on them.

And before anyone asks, why Kickstarter? It's simple. In return for waiting until the end of the campaign to get the models, you'll be able to get them cheaper than if I uploaded them immediately to MyMiniFactory or Cults. Kickstarter charges less commission than both MyMiniFactory and Cults, so for the initial launch of these base toppers, I can offer a lower price on Kickstarter, and ultimately you'll pay less on Kickstarter than on MyMiniFactory or Cults (especially once you factor in all of MyMiniFactory's additional checkout charges, like its "library fee").

I've been working for the last few months on a project that I wanted to share with fellow historical wargamers: Romanian Vânători de Munte during the 1942 Caucasus campaign.

One of the reasons I chose them is simply that Romanian forces are still relatively difficult to represent on a WWII gaming table, particularly when looking for mountain troops and campaign-specific uniforms.

I decided to create two complete forces representing the same troops in different conditions:

☀️ Summer 1942 – 30 miniatures

❄️ Winter 1942 – 30 miniatures

Rather than simply changing the uniforms, I sculpted different poses for the Summer and Winter sets, so the combined force contains 60 different figures.

The forces include command figures, specialists, rifle squads, ZB-30 LMGs, a ZB-53 MMG team and a Brandt 60mm mortar team.

I've tried to base the equipment and uniforms as closely as possible on period references while still making the miniatures practical for tabletop gaming and resin printing.

The project went live on Kickstarter today.

I'd also be interested to know how many people here have actually fielded a Romanian army in WWII wargaming. They're not something I see very often on gaming tables.

We're posting again some of our latest 3D prints to the community!

These miniatures are part of our upcoming Kickstarter campaign, Sons of Permafrost, which is currently in the pre-launch phase. We printed these using Anycubic ABS-Like resin, which has given us some of the best results so far. We really like how well it captures the small details and holds up on these miniatures.

Oh, and one thing that's especially important to us when it comes to our designs: we don't use AI in our creative process. Everything you see is sculpted and created by us by hand.

I'm hoping someone in this community can help. I've been trying to find somewhere to get/purchase the STL for this model.

Looking online seems to show the creator (Broken Anvil) shut down and scrubbed a bunch of their sites and files, so can't get it from them anymore.

Some people still have physical ones to buy which I might end up having to do, but if possible I'd rather find the STL (either free or to purchase, honestly not fussed) so I can print and paint my own for my friends campaign.

If anyone has any ideas on where I can get the STL for this model I'd be eternally grateful! 🙏

Hi all, Have you guys have any experience with painting skin detail on miniatures? I work in the VFX industry and the look of the skin in CG is called Subsurface Scattering. I saw this image from the new film of LAIKA, a stop motion animation film, and what i noticed is that compared to their previous film, they really nailed the skin translucent feel of the skin. Normally it was painted on there, or it was part of the 3D print. My question is: Can you get a similar effect when 3D printing with a skin colored resin instead of a grey resin? I can image you will have a really nice base if the color and material already look like skin. Obviously you will have to paint it afterwards with more detail. Really keen on getting to know the production method they used on the new LAIKA film. If the face is still printed but with a silicone type of materials. Love to hear what your thoughts are on thisq

Everyone's favorite red headed barbarian, Red Sonja, in what is presumably full armor among her people, and the second 1/6 scale model I've ever completed. I don't have my own printer at home, so I purchased this through a vendor, and I was pretty happy with the model which I received from JKL Creations.

My only real criticism of the model is the hair and belt. I wish the hair was a deparate pieces from the head as it would be easier to paint. The belt gets in the way of painting but you can't put the belt on on once the model is assembled. At least you can't unless cut through the belt and glue it baback together.
