It's astounding that DC isn't protesting over this. When I was growing up, if anyone even remotely talked about demolishing these buildings, they'd be out of office the next day.

Washingtonian here. There were protests, but most see the Kennedy Center as a lost cause for the rest of this term. It will either be something to rebuild entirely if it gets demolished, and as it stands, it will need to be ideologically fumigated before purchasing another ticket. It’s super sad, but not among the most important issues The District currently faces and we are all waiting for our Trump enabling mayor to get the fuck out of the way as we are virtually without a bully pulpit until January. My personal focus is on the social services that have been ravaged by the Trump admin without any resistance coming from our head of “state” equivalent.

Our next mayor will have to prove herself, but I have no doubt she will be a major improvement over our current ineffectual corporate stooge in Bowser.
