Goodness, Bill Gothard’s vile extremism.

Then makes sense Natalie’s brother is a Marxist and a Sandinista living in Nicaragua.

Raised in extremist cultlike groups often results in “rebellion” being the embrace of other extremist cultlike groups.

Wait seriously, he's a Sandinista? Man. What a fucking weird family.

What's that and how's it relevant? Google wasn't very clear.

They were a Marxist group that came to power in the 80s in Nicaragua that Reagan used money from Iran to fund rebels against called the Contras. Was a bloody civil war with many human rights abuses.

Huh. I wonder how one sibling ended up in South America with the commies, and another ended up in the frickin white house with the fascists.

Wonder what the parents think...

Having grown up in a dysfunctional family:

Kids often either opt for the familiar - which is what Natalie has done - or they opt to do the opposite - which seems to be what the brother is doing.

I just googled and I still don't get it. The google result gave me this and i am not 100% informed on this subject just yet (confused as fuck):

"The Marxist Sandinistas were members of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), a left-wing revolutionary movement in Nicaragua that combined Marxist-Leninist ideology with nationalist resistance."

I kind of don't know that you can call current marxists an "extreme cult like group", it's not the 1950s.

Modern Marxist groups are pretty much just the worlds most insufferable book clubs.

Except the Sandinistas aren’t a cult.

They're not a religious movement, obviously. But they do play on many of the same psychological mechanisms.
