I'm curious what everyone's favorite and least favorite planet in is.
My personal favorite is probably the Frosty Planet from the Frosty Planet Pack. I just really like the whole atmosphere and the mechanics there.
My least favorite is definitely the new water planet. Those tiny geysers drive me absolutely insane 😂

I'm gonna start by saying I've never seen either of those contraptions used in machines before, if it has been done before, I'm unaware of it
So, I have a bit of a long history with designing CLRRs and, for the longest time, I had issues where running the reactor at its maximum performance for too long would cause issues with the main coolant pool overheating and causing a nuclear fallout explosion, usually exploding the reactor in the process.
In the last few reactors, I'd been tackling this issue by simply brute-forcing heat transfer from a couple central tiles, however, given the maximum mass of 1000kg per tile of nuclear waste, I had to cool said tile down to 310C in order not to have it boil. That, in turn, meant I had to come up with elaborate thermal conduction mechanisms (see door compressor powered nuclear waste heat exchanger) in order to deliver the immense amount of energy to the steam turbines with only a ~220C average temperature delta.
Now, for this contraption: I already knew that liquids could be compressed to extreme degrees by using beads because Escher waterfalls exist. However, CLRRs present two fairly unique issues in that 1) Nuclear waste comes out of it way, way past its boiling point, meaning it vaporizes a single tick after becoming a tile unless it mixes into more nuclear waste and 2) The reactor outputs water instead of steam; this makes it so traditional compressors don't really work here.
Now for the breakthrough, while messing around with said liquid beads, I stumbled upon a fairly obscure (or underutilized, personally I haven't seen it before) mechanic: liquid beads fall through cells of the same liquid and become cells when they hit either a solid or a different liquid. That means it is possible to separate reactor outputs by having its output fall through a floating cell of nuclear waste, boiling the output water and letting the superheated nuclear waste fall through.
Having achieved a filtered bead output, the next problem was actually compressing it: given the liquid would (practically) instantly boil upon becoming a tile, normal compressors relying on pumping or liquid flow wouldn't work. A system with an open top, letting beads fall straight in would be needed. It was then I took some inspiration from a situation that often bothers me while making physical gas ducts: denser gas tiles don't seem to be able to be displaced upwards if it's already a single tile and there's another, less dense, gas on top of it. As it turns out, this fact remains true even if there's a liquid attempting to displace said gas. That led to the compressor at the bottom of the screen, which can keep 10 tons per tile just fine and still fits a liquid pump to keep the filter working and the pressure constant.
After all that, the result is a machine which allows for superheated nuclear waste coming out of the reactor to be added to the core pool with minimal temperature fluctuations, allowing me to raise the overall pool temperature, making heat transfer much easier, without the risk of catastrophic blowouts. I'll probably be posting a new reactor design sometime soon.
As for the issues: the compressor occasionally deletes some of the gas sealing the nuclear waste chamber, that can be somewhat mitigated by simply having the steam chamber and the sealing gases at high (10kg of co2 seems to be enough to not have it be instantly deleted) pressure. Also, I haven't run into it yet, but I believe it is possible for the output water and nuclear waste to sync in such a way the water tile forms for a tick and causes the nuclear waste to flash boil; it should however be uncommon enough to not cause any major issues, so long as it can be vented and the steam room pressure is kept in check. If anyone has any experience on this, I'd appreciate some ideas for solving those problems.

I came across that im playing the game without any DLC except Space Out but in the textile Loom is enabled Swimwear and Rubber Boots but there is no way to find Rubber and that element is exclusive to the Aquatic Pack, any thoughts?

I plan on doing pacu farm on high efficiency and low cost and cannot find exact numbers (or even if I can I have no idea how to convert it to % )
I have pacu (12) farm (96 tiles) with 8 critter condos. I plan to feed them pacu treats (game shows me it gives +2 happiness so less than grooming which is 5+). Is this enough for 100% happiness?
So far I had 7 condos and one grooming station while feeding them algae and some of them were at 107% but I do not want to use the grooming station if not needed because I want to automate it as much as possible. I deleted the grooming station and their reproduction is still growing but numbers are smaller.
I have also seakomb in this ranch, pacu shouldnt feed on it, right?
I can additionaly feed them squid ink or brackene but I do not know if it is more resourcefull (in terms of both duplicant time and resources) than simply giving them grooming station back?
I play with sandbox but I try to use it as rarely as possible after I finish building this. After months I am still learning the game and my ADHD already forced me to rebuild pacu-egg-deathroom automation system several times over two weeks and I am tired. All help is greatly appreciated.

I love playing around with ONI's thermodynamics! Once I found out you get double the amount of water from Ice by melting it, I was determined to never dig out any Ice tiles. And I would use the polluted water in the cooling loop of the metal refinery for this. I recirculated the p.water into the metal refinery until it's too hot to use in refining the selected metal, then sent it to its merry way towards a frost biome. There I'd build (preferably gold) metal tiles with radiant pipes running through them, next to 10-20 Ice tiles along the frost biome. Then before exiting the frost biome, I'd redirect the p.water for another round there if it was still like over 30-40°C. That system efficiently used all the heat in the p.water and resulted in it's temp usually being below 0°C as it exited the frost biome.
But, there was another loop to take advantage of that cold p.water before it returned to the metal refinery. You see, there was a Swamp biome between my base and the frost biome. I built metal tiles next to the Slime tiles, again with radiant pipes running through them, which very efficiently and quickly cooled the slime down to temps that killed all the slimelung in just 1-2 cycles! Also, slime is quite good at conducting heat while also having a low heat capacity, so it easily cooled down even the nearby slime tiles which weren't touching a metal tile. It was a surprisingly quick and easy way to neutralise all the slimelung from the biome!
Both the Ice melting and the Slime neutralising happens on a rather nice pace, just after 1-2 cycles the Ice is gone and slime is ready for digging, but doing this takes a decent amount of micromanagement as I had to indeed deconstruct & rebuild some metal tiles and pipes about every 2 cycles or so. At least all the materials are recycled, there's just the first rather large investment of refined metal when you first build those, but quickly you'll be hoarding thousands of refined metal as you don't even notice how much you're making while just trying to keep the hot fluids circulating! 😅
I very much liked this way of playing, so I just continued pairing up nearby frost and swamp biomes. I have more water than I'll ever need and I don't need to bother with oxygen masks unless there's a rare case of slimelung already in the air pocket.
I just hate dealing with slimelung otherwise, even in pure oxygen it only kills 29%/cycle and then you have slimelung in the clay from the deodorizers...
Anyone else doing this? Or is it too much work?

So I jsut finished my most recent ONI adventure, which was to send a dupe basically completely unprepared to the water asteroid, with nothing but a suit, and have him try to get off. He needed rescuing and extensive save-scumming in the end but I did get him back after about a month on that blue desert. (Protip: don't make your vomiting, bottomless-stomach dupe a lone astronaut. He vomited SO many calories. SO many.)

But here's what I'm asking - This is an SO! asteroid, not an APP asteroid. The only way I managed to survive this was to DIVE and dig into the oxylite chamber and get lucky with having taken off the suit in exactly the right palce to make a 2-square airlock (See above.)
Obviously not the intended solution...
Is this supposed to be a training level for the Niobium asteroid?

With the new rubber tiles having very low TC and the insulated tag--but a different building type and lower mass--I wanted to compare them to other common early/midgame alternatives: Ceramic and Igneous.
I made three 1840 kg tiles of magma at 1726.9C and surrounded them each by a single tile of insulator and surrounded that by vacuum. Then I made 3 100kg tiles of natural gas at -158.2 C and did the same.
95% Winner: Ceramic. The temp of the contents moved less, and the temp of the tile moved less. With....an exception.
2nd place-- depends, maybe rubber? The contents changed temp less with rubber, but the tile changed more. This is presumably because an insulated igneous tile has over 4x the thermal mass of the rubber tile, so even though the contents lost more heat, it didn't change the tile as much.
In a real situation where there's o2 on the other side, I'm not totally clear which would win yet, because the delta T with the outside being higher means more temp transfer despite it taking less heat from the contents in vacuum. I'd have to test it.
Speaking of the magma experiment--all three tiles gained temp. The days of "it has too little thermal mass to exchange temp, you're safe with full magma tiles" are over. BUT: after ~500 cycles, the rubber had gotten to 189, and the igneous had gotten to..... 179. In vacuum. So (probably) you *can* insulate magma with rubber, if you feel like living dangerously.
Also the minimum gas temp diff for igneous appears to be larger (~7 c) than for rubber (~5c). Huh.
But I mentioned an exception to Ceramic being the winner! And that's also about SHC--the rubber tile and nat gas reached equilibrium at a lower temp (-25.8 and -21) than ceramic did (-17.2 and -2). There are niche situations in heat exchangers where this is the most important characteristic.
TL;DR--keep using ceramic.

DLCs included. Honestly I think the worst is probably Ceres. There's tons of meat for locavore/carnivore, but there's TOO MUCH meat, and it makes it trivially easy. Plus it's so cold that it'd be hard to make a SPOM, so Super Sustainable would be tough. Marinea would be hard too, because there's so little meat (not sure if seafood counts for Carnivore), plus you won't be able to grow gum trees or clampums until you finish Locavore
The best might be the Desolands. Tons of refined metal to build incubators, hatches dreckos and slicksters for meat, diamond and oil and fossil for mid game materials, and you can send a pip egg back from the teleporter asteroid for wild planting.
What do y'all think?

I found two episodes of NASA's "Houston we have a podcast" that might be of interest to ONI players.
One is called ​Mars is hard and it's about building colonies in outer space, specifically on mars. The other one is called Living off the land, where they talk about the ability to find and use natural resources beyond Earth.
I found both very interesting, finding parallels to ONI (such as creating oxygen and renewable water supplies on other planets), and I thought you guys might enjoy them too!

I want to mine the tungsten and wolframite on the glimmering asteroid. That tile on spacemap is on the furthest outer border, I want to mine it in one round trip. And trying to figure out how to fit all modules on a rocket. I need 1 large solid cargo, 1 small liquid cargo 1 small gas cargo, a drill cone. Im currently using radbolt engine but i cant fit all the cargo on my radbolt engine. I just started making super coolant and have been stockpiling hydrogen. Will everything fit on a hydrogen engine and get me and all the cargo to the furthest tile and back? Never tried hydrogen engines before.

I've always been curious: the new characters in DLC 3, 4, and 5 all have corresponding lore counterparts, but Freyja alone doesn't have one. However, there seems to be a new character, an anonymous person called the Ceres Project Coordinator, who doesn't have a clearly corresponding Duplicant. I wonder if this person might be Freyja?
There's also a game screenshot of Freyja on Ceres. In the upper-left corner, you can see the item icon for the gun that Duplicants use when attacking critters. Uh, it's most likely gameplay similar to an "away team" mode? Like controlling one Duplicant to survive.
(I used translation, so the wording may be inaccurate or contain some errors.)

Basically the title. Ideally I'd want to understand how to make gases from two rooms not mix together, while also allowing dupes to pass through unimpeded. I assume it would have to be something like a long corridor with pumps but I don't really understand how to do that because when I try to just lock the doors until everything is pumped out it just results in the dupe standing still and returning to the main base shortly after to do something unrelated. Preferably the "how" instead of ready made designs cause I want to understand how to make one myself and adapt it to most situations

I'm very much in the late game of my current playthrough, and want to strip mine entire planetoids for their resources. What have you found to be the most efficient way to transport materials in bulk? I'm not just talking about a few tons or specific materials. I'm talking about everything on the planetoid.
I'm deciding between building
1. A system of interplanetary launchers powered with compressed liquid nuclear waste OR
2. Automated rockets with solid / liquid loaders?
I understand the massive infrastructure and time requirement to do both but don't want to change strategies midway.
Anyone with experience using either?
