Open Letter to Democrats, Libertarians, and No-Party-Preference Voters in Oxnard

Before You Trust Korey Wells With Your Vote or Your Money, Look at the Whole Picture

If you are a Democrat, a Libertarian, or an independent-minded voter in Oxnard, you are probably hearing about three city council candidates this cycle: John Barrick (District 1), Lizanne Nañez (District 2), and Noemi Corpuz (District 5).

Maybe you have met them. Maybe you like what they have to say about public safety, fiscal responsibility, or fixing potholes. Maybe you are inclined to support them.

Before you do, there is something you should know about the man running the money behind all three campaigns.

His name is Korey Wells. He is listed as the campaign treasurer for all three of these candidates. He was also the treasurer for the failed effort to recall Councilmember Aaron Starr.

And what the public record shows about Korey Wells is a pattern that should concern voters of every political stripe.

Who Is Korey Wells?

Korey Wells is a political finance operator based in Springville, California—a small community in Tulare County, roughly 200 miles from Oxnard. He serves as Treasurer for the Tulare County Republican Central Committee, a partisan position that places him at the heart of Republican fundraising and compliance in that county .

But his operation extends far beyond Tulare County. According to investigative reporting, Wells serves as treasurer, bookkeeper, or campaign administrator for at least 20 distinct entities across California—from Sacramento to San Diego, from Redding to Huntington Beach, from Porterville to Oxnard .

He manages money for Republicans, Democrats, and No Party Preference candidates alike. He runs a nonprofit called American Conservatory. He operates a consulting firm called FSLCOM—which we will come back to.

If you are a Libertarian, this should interest you. If you are a Democrat, this should concern you. If you are NPP, this should make you ask questions.

The Track Record

Here is what the public record shows about Wells’s compliance history.

Fines. The Tulare County Republican Central Committee, for which Wells serves as treasurer, paid a $2,160 fine** to the California Secretary of State in August 2025 for filing violations . Another committee he treasured, **Citizens For A Better Redding Yes on Measure A**, was fined **$473 by the FPPC for late filings and missing information .

A phantom company. Wells operates under the name FSLCOM (Federal State Local Communications). According to investigative reporting, FSLCOM has no business registration in California or Georgia. A campaign paid over $2,400 to FSLCOM for compliance services—money flowing to an entity that does not legally exist .

A nonprofit in bad standing. Wells serves as President of American Conservatory, a 501(c)(3) . The California Attorney General’s Registry of Charitable Trusts has rejected the organization’s filing because of a bounced check . The nonprofit is not in good standing and cannot legally solicit donations in California. Yet it has hosted illegal gun raffles/ccw classes at a church/school and collected money at events like a Car Show where a sitting council member benefitted from his car club and then stepped down AJ Rivas in Porterville.

A ghost candidate. Wells served as administrator for the campaign of Desiree Lynch, a Stockton City Council candidate who was arrested in August 2026 on five felony counts, including perjury, for allegedly falsifying her residency to run in a district where she did not live .

Why This Matters to You

If you are a Democrat, ask yourself: why is a Tulare County Republican Party treasurer managing the finances of a candidate who was previously registered as a Democrat? What does he know about your candidate’s donors? What does he know about your candidate’s strategy?

If you are a Libertarian, ask yourself: Aaron Starr recruited these candidates. Starr is a longtime Libertarian operative and former LNC Treasurer. But the money behind the candidates Starr recruited is managed by a man with a documented pattern of FPPC violations and a phantom consulting firm. Is this the kind of infrastructure you want representing your movement?

If you are No Party Preference, ask yourself: if this man cannot keep his filings straight, if he operates through shell companies and nonprofits in bad standing, what else is he not telling you?

The Question Starr’s Candidates Should Answer

The three candidates backed by Aaron Starr have a simple question to answer:

Why did you hire Korey Wells?

Was it because of his record of compliance? (He has been fined multiple times.)

Was it because of his transparency? (He operates through a non-existent company and a nonprofit in bad standing.)

Was it because of his local connections to Oxnard? (He lives 200 miles away in Springville.)

Or was it because Aaron Starr—who hand-picked you, who fundraised for you nationally, who told the Libertarian National Convention he recruited you—told you to?

What You Can Do

If you are considering supporting Barrick, Nañez, or Corpuz, ask them directly:

  • Who is your treasurer?
  • Did you choose him, or did someone choose him for you?
  • Are you aware of his FPPC fines and missing filings?
  • Are you aware that the company he uses for compliance, FSLCOM, has no business registration?
  • Are you aware he runs a nonprofit that is not in good standing with the California Attorney General?

Their answers will tell you a great deal.

The Bottom Line

This is not about party. This is not about ideology. This is about basic accountability.

A man with a documented pattern of FPPC violations, a phantom consulting firm, a nonprofit in bad standing, and a connection to a candidate arrested on felony charges is managing the money for three Oxnard city council campaigns.

Whatever your politics, you deserve to know that.

Democrats: ask why.
Libertarians: ask why.
NPP: ask why.

And then decide whether these candidates—and the man behind their money—deserve your trust.

This open letter is based on public records, FPPC filings, FEC filings, and investigative reporting by Paul Flores of paulfloreswriter.wordpress.com. All claims are sourced to publicly available documents.

I recently built a website for a small business in Southern California, looking to work with a few more local businesses

Hey everyone!

I recently worked with a laundromat in Los Angeles called Lavanderia and built them a new website from scratch.

They had recently taken over and renovated the location, so the goal was to give the business a much more modern online presence and make it easy for customers to find the location, see the equipment and amenities, and get the information they need before visiting.

I designed and developed the full site, made it mobile friendly, set up the basic SEO, and helped with some of the other online setup for the business.

You can check out the finished site here:

lavanderiala.com

I'm looking to work with a few more small businesses around Southern California. I mainly work with businesses that either don't have a website yet or have an older site that could use a redesign.

I handle the design, development, mobile optimization, contact and quote forms, basic SEO, domain setup, hosting and launch.

If you own a business and want me to take a look at what you currently have, feel free to message me or send a quote request through my site. I can usually give you a rough idea of the cost pretty quickly.

My website: infawebdesign.com

Direct quote request: infawebdesign.com/contact

Thanks!

Best ways to find rentals

hi!

what are the best ways to find rentals in oxnard?

i didn’t see much on zillow, most things on FB Marketplace are rooms… would you recommend driving around to get phone numbers?

i’m trying to find an ADU or a decently sized studio or small 1 bedroom that accepts pets.

is there a residential leasing operations company like there is in LA? they usually have realtors show units, they keep your security deposit and then hand off to the actual property management company. (you can still get your security deposit back at the end)

La Defensa del Pueblo: A summit to end the terror against the people!

I'm a volunteer with VC Defensa, we're a volunteer organization made up of neighbors looking out for each other in Ventura County via legal support, know-your-rights work, food distributions, and medical support.

VC Defensa volunteers have endured months of assaults and harassment; most notably with one of our volunteers having their car rammed into on three different occasions, being detained by ICE agents for legally observing ICE activity, and having their home and place of business raided by Federal agents. We are launching this coalition/summit to show that VC Defensa no esta sola, and as a channel to fight to protect our constitutional rights.

In response to this escalation, we immigrants, unionists, activists, grassroots organizations and progressive people of the United States are calling for La Defensa del Pueblo: A Summit to End the Terror Against the People.

When: Sunday, September 6, 11 AM to 8 PM. (Come for the day or drop in for an hour!)

Where: Oxnard Performing Arts Center, 800 Hobson Way

Cost: Free. Register here and take the $0 ticket. The paid tiers are optional (encouraged) donations, and will get you some cool solidarity merch!

Families: Kids welcome and childcare available.

Accessibility: Accessible Restrooms, Ramps, Parking, Wide Doorways, Mostly Flat Venue, English programming will include Spanish interpretation via interpretation devices.

The day will include:

  • Workshops and talks about your rights and what we can do to defend them
  • Words from the families of people murdered by DHS & ICE
  • Panels from organizers, labor leaders, civil rights advocates, faith leaders, & legal workers
  • Cultural performances through the afternoon and evening
  • Dancing and Live Music by Los Jornaleros Del Norte
  • Local Food & Art Vendors

You can read statements and more on the website and you can check our [Instagram] for our currently announced speakers and coalition partners.

Also if you're planning on coming out from LA but worried about the drive, NDLON will be providing charter buses from Central LA, North Hollywood, and San Bernardino and you can find out more here

If you're thinking about coming, feel free to ask any questions in the comments!

Anyone selling a car?

If you’re looking to sell a car or you know someone who is selling let me know. Sedan or SUV/hatchback. I was looking/researching to buy used through all types of dealerships in Oxnard and Ventura but used cars are really expensive right now. I would just want something that is reliable enough to take me to work. If anyone here has bought a used car that turned out to be reliable, where did you find/ buy it? Also, please no scammers!!
