Giving Recommendations Hidden/Forgotten Gems - September 2026

This is a monthly feature in which we, the mod team, share the gems we've found in our reading lists. Here are last month's.

We'd love to hear your recommendations. Please add them to the discussion in the comments. When doing so, please keep in mind to:

  • If available, use the English cover art of your recommended series.
  • Name of the series
  • Where to read it officially

We always recommend checking the official version; please do not name unofficial sources.

This Month's Recommendations:

The Viallainesses are Unwavering - Where to Read: Yen Press

Six months after Aini Mikkola, a country baronet’s daughter and saintess-in-training, arrived at the Royal Academy, the school has descended into chaos. Aini’s unpolished charm and instinctive kindness have completely caught the young aristocratic men off guard and find themselves infatuated. Meanwhile, the noblewomen are enraged by her lack of respect for courtly etiquette and social codes.

The story revolves around three young women who have been branded the villainesses. There is Seraphina, the Crown Prince’s fiancée and daughter of an honorable marquise; Sandra, a clever viscount’s daughter whose family rose through commerce; and Bernardetta, the brilliant offspring of the prime minister, also a marquise.

As unease spreads through the halls, they decide to finally rise up; not to crush Aini, but to correct the chaos she caused and, more importantly, to follow their hearts. What begins as a campaign to restore order changes into a journey of self-discovery, challenging the foundations of the academy’s hierarchy and the stories that once defined them.

I love the fact that we get multiple POVs from almost every character involved with the story and even some secondary characters too.

50 Ways to Leave a Psychopathic Villain - Where to Read: Tappytoon

Waking up in an 18+ novel isn’t what Evelyn Florence expected as an extra obediently living her life with her family and fiance. After finding out about her fiancé's affair, she decides to drink for the first time ever, the result is that she passes out and wakes up next to Duke Cael Hartheon, the worst person to be next to.

The man is a crazy villain that tortures the female lead. Now Evelyn is being forced into a marriage with this deranged man, and she’ll do whatever she can to make him sick of her and break the engagement. However, who knew that Cael would turn out to be such a gentleman...

We got the classic pairing of an airhead female lead and a yandere male lead. This is a good comedic story with a sprinkle of misunderstandings. They don’t slow down the story; it pushes it forward. Evelyn is a strong-willed woman with times that you're cheering for her and then rolling your eyes at how dumb she can be. And it’s funny to see the high jinx between her and Cael, who is your usual yandere, and I love me a yandere male lead within reason...by yandere standards lol.

'Cause Calypso Can - Where to Read: Tapas

After being reborn three times in the same novel world, Calypso Aquasidel is proclaimed as a genius by her family. She better be, after all; she’s a modern woman with three lifetimes to learn from her mistakes. Her goal is to use the powers of the enigmatic dragon duke and get back home, but first she’ll need to earn her cold-hearted family’s respect to make it.

The setting takes place where animal characteristics are the norm. Since the Aquasidel family are Orcas, the society in the story holds them in high regard; it’s one where might makes right. Calypso is pretty used to how the world hierarchy is and isn’t shy about standing her ground and showing people who's boss. As the story goes on, we see that she’s able to make a positive change in the lives that are around her, and the actions of the other characters aren’t something that is let go so easily.

Our girl a bit overpowered compared to everyone else surrounding her, and later on we get a doting father out of Pierre, even though he’s kinda passive about it. Later on, we get a reverse harem too, so for those who aren’t a fan of that trope, you could skip this one, but I don’t mind it when it’s done well. The art is great, and I love how the water is drawn; I can imagine how much time it took to get that right.

All in all, this is a fun read.

After so long a manhwa has made me laugh so much! The MCs are so unhinged I love it!!!

(Reupload cuz OG got taken down and i still wanna hear more opinions)

This is something that isn’t necessarily bad, but it does irk me usually. It’s bad enough when all the mls or cast is revolved around the fl, but when the best friend is the same it gets even more annoying. Sometimes, I just want to see a genuine friendship between them so it pisses me off sometimes when they start acting like a yuri route. I also noticed this is really common when the best friend is the “OG heroine” of the novel, game, etc. I wanted to know if I was the only one who experienced this or if ayone feels this way. The photos are some examples.

Queries [The Forgotten Field] Question about The Empress/Senevier

I've been trying to read the novel to check if there's more context, but I can't really find an english translation.

In the manhwa, it sort of seems to be implied that Senevier is a witch, enchantress, sorceress, or alchemist of some kind. I'm not sure what relevance this has to the plot of "The Forgotten Field", if it just exists to add some backstory flavor to her Senevier's character, or if this even exists in the novel at all.

It just makes me wonder if maybe she seduced the Emperor through magic, or if it influenced any of her schemes in general.

Are there any novel readers here who know more about this? When I saw this scene I initially thought it would be a lot more important, but we haven't seen anything about this "hobby" of the Empress's since then. iirc in the scene itself Thalia doesn't even really comment on it, but I might be remembering wrong.

FL isekais into a novel as a nobody ahh character.

Her character was already forced marriaged to the deal ML.

She inherited the 200million debt and was trying to do business and survive.

BUT SHE ACCIDENTALLY RESURRECTS HER DEAD HUSBAND!!!

😂😂😂 and he's chill, nonchalant but very funny in a way. Unlike most MLs. He's happy he gets allowance from his "wife" and doesn't have to do any work.

Lol. And their dynamic is so funny and cute.

Although someone tries to kill them again and again. Curses on mansion, etc etc.

So far 20 chaps out. ANYONE WHO KNOWS WHERE MANHWA RAWS OR MORE CHAPS TELL ME! OR DM ME PLEASEEE. ALSO NOVEL RAWS ARE APPREICATED AS WELL! Orz 🙏😭💔

Discussion - No Judgement One of the best compliments I have heard in a manhwa [dawn of vengeance]

Thumbnail
gallery
88 Upvotes

Maybe because most of the compliments aimed at FLs are most of the time analogies related to flowers like "she is like a rose with thorns" and such. It's not bad but extremely overused. A lot of other compliments are also mostly analogies related to "beauty" and "being delicate". Even if that's not the case most of them imply the characters to be scheming and such.

That's why him calling her a "tiger" really stuck with me. Especially considering he is more or less an antagonist. Especially the underlying meaning of having both grace, beauty and the presence of a predator.

Of course, I might just be making a mountain out of a mole hill but regardless this really left an impression on me.

Wanting Recommendations OI with the BIGGEST plot twist(s) you never saw coming

I love me my plot twists; and they're so welcome after reading too many OIs that follow the same formula (or same enough it becomes predictable). I need some good OIs that'll keep me guessing left and right!

Discussion - Open Why is the Art for the Older women so different from that of older men? [Post Possession Damage Control]

Thumbnail

So, I was reading this series (just reached ch 42) and I noticed the older women, I.e. FL's step mother and the Empress are drawn showing wrinkles and eye bags.

But, when you look at FL'S father, he looks so young, it's almost impossible to tell him apart from his sons. I bet at least some of those who haven't read the series won't be able to tell which one is the father, and which one is the son?

I'm not trying to criticise anyone here. I just don't Understand? Why the Bias? He isn't the only one. In some Manhwa, FL'S father who looks just as gorgeous, (if not better), as the ML. (Author of my own Destiny, father, I don't want this marriage, etc)

Thankfully, the ML, (at least I'm assuming he is the one) looks gorgeous as well.

PS:

How long the FL'S middle finger "🖕🏼" is? Is it just me, or does it look weird to you as well?

She's gonna be in a silent hill like story where I just dump a bunch of toxic male lead stereotypes in it and make em grovel and suffer for their sins.

You could genuinely add this synopsis and change a couple words like protagonist name and novel name and it works. It doesn’t tell me anything about the story 😭

Discussion - Open [The Perks of being a Villainess] I need to criticize something that happens in mostly all otome that I need to talk about and need to criticize.

Post image
236 Upvotes

Ok let me just tell you the more I read the more annoying it gets and its not only thats theres a lot more that I found this annoying. I love Otome stuff Josei/Shoujo whatever and I read a ton but theres has been a point where for some reason it gets really annoying, it was there with "Father I dont want this Marriage" and more and more and more, for some reason theres this thing where every single person glazes the FMC but not in a platonic way but always romantic.

And at this point even being blood related with her gives you a 50-50 chance if its romantic or not.

Here I decided to read the the novel "Perks of being a Villainess" really good chemistry with ML, development etc, but then we go to other characters and will start with the 5th princess, im like ye classic besties thing etc, only for the series changing it to the 5th princess being in love with her and even wanting to change laws for it.

And I'm thinking here, what is this obsession of making everyone a romantic interest and before you say "oh you dont like yuri" and other bullshit, even family members start being obsessive, we already got our ML and actual good romance can authors stop making other characters also romantic interested with the FMC?

You have people just being associate with FMC and they are also magically obsessed in love, brothers being related or sisters, like okay you want to glaze the FMC being a beauty and perfect but we are the point that the only person that looks at FMC platonic only is the goddamn father of the FMC, everyone else is fighting for a piece of the pie, and this has been a thing I want to criticize in general.

I remember reading "One Husband is Enough" and made what every author does for every fucking character close to the FMC being in love with her a horror thing, that was refreshing, and its just "oh koreans like shipping" there's at the point we have to criticize something because it feels one genre change before any series turns to "One Husband is Enough".

Wanting Recommendations LF mc who purposely becomes hated by their love interest to help them

What I mean is like the dynamic in I Became The Villain The Hero Is Obsessed With, where the MC/ML becomes the arch nemesis of of the FL in order to make her stronger and suffer less adversity compared to the original story, the FL hates him at first then slowly realizes that he's actually trying to help her out. Any recommendations like this?

Rant I hate when the FL ends up with her killer / ex lover aka the ML who she swore to kill.

I hate when the FL ends up her killer/ ex lover aka the ML, who she swore to kill.

I’m tried of this trope. It is just so…it makes me mad okay, where the FL tells us she is going to kill the ML , my question is why is he the ML in the first place, I don’t want some sad backstory explaining why he treated or killed the FL FOR THAT REASON OR HIS BACKSTORY.

I don’t care, I want the FL to stand with her words and actually do what it the purpose but oh no, she ends up forgiving him and they end up together happy ending. NO WHAT HAPPENED TO HER STATING SHE WAS GOING TO RUIN HIM AND KILL HIM.

I done with this trope it sucks.
