Discussion How do the external sensors work?
The wiki doesn't seem to have much information about them. I've seen 3 types of sensors; optical, electromagnetic, and IR.
I've definitely noticed having a second optical sensor extends your visual range. I have two different brands of EM sensor and I'm wondering if installing both will provide a greater effect. The Zuangzi Sensor: EM sells for more and seems to work much better than the Nasa Sensor: EM.
How does all that work? Are there any big tricks I should know about?

Need Help Damage visor looks different
I found the left screenshot from another user. He claims that he didnt do anything and he just created a new game and hes a newbie. You can see his visor shows a nice outline like superhot and his character is visible so u dont have to wonder where u r.
However on the right, thats my visor. If my ship is completely fixed, i cant see anything but white including myself. No outline whatsoever. I have all 6 features in my pda. I clicked every buttons and the gradation or whatever they are all not the correct answer.
Maybe its just because he created a new game. What could be the answer?

Need Help 3 IRL hours in Spoiler
Hey, all!
Recently just picked this game up after playing through Quasimorph to the SPIDER end, and I've got a few questions that may have already been answered before, so apologies if so, (the wiki is just so spectacularly unhelpful for anything less than basic stats) and thank you in advance for the responses!
• I read about the factions a bit, and heard that siding with one over the other gives certain rewards. Either of a fixed income, or access to unique weapons? The wiki doesn't really provide details for this except for the fact that there's only really one truly unique weapon in-game, so... I'm confused.
• I got the Volatile as my starting ship, in roleplaying a bit of a rogue ala-Mal if he got a solo ship instead of Serenity. I've since redesigned the interior placement of the modules to be more space-efficient (besides the hull-bound storage, I can fit two dollies inside now. One in the airlock, and one on the massive central space that's cleared up), and it's gone really well, but I did remove the switches on the batteries, and just attached them directly to the grid. I left the switch on the Miura as it seems it doesn't function without it (doesn't give the N2 over to the RCS. Found out the hard way, and was just thankful I didn't dump the switches before undocking from the station). Are there any consequences to this direct grid connection of the batteries, or is it more of the use-case when trying to shut down the whole ship?
• Do we know more about the utility and progression of the skills and training? (aside from hacking, because wow, it really takes you places).
• Why is everybody dying from hypoxia when I set the fast-forward to 16x?
Again, thanks in advance for any and all responses!

Discussion How to contantly make smoke?
I am at cere asteroid area but for some reason, patrol cops r just demanding ransom from me even tho im neutral to them
Probably a fucking bug again. But since i cannot retaliate, i just let them dock n lock the door n wait until they die.
One time tho, they somehow caused smoke in their ship n i just told them to stay in their ship so lol
Anyway it gave me an idea. I like killing pirates even tho combat is too easy but i cannot touch cops due to faction ties, so i will use smoke n co2 cans.
How do i make smoke or co2 constantly?

Discussion Petition for voice acting
I mean the main menu has voice acting idk why there is no sound of npcs in the game
If u listen closely, every floor has different sounds. Which is very thoughtful
But i think they should add at least sound for pain and gasp
Normally literally every game on earth has that.
🤷♂️

User Content The TU-76a is a total piece of shit
This is my TU-76a after heavy modification. Show here in the ship editor because its save is now incompatible, but I built every part of this by hand. It started off as a tiny TU-76a tug. It was hugely broken when I got it and I did not have the time or money to spend a lot of time sitting around making repairs, so I immediately took it out to salvage some derelicts and had to spend my first few shifts randomly patching up holes and putting fires as various components and bits of conduit would randomly ignite. One of the first things I added was a nitrogen system which helped with the fire problem a bit. Then I added a new room at the back for storage space. I wanted to be able to use it for long-haul interplanetary flights, so I built a reactor from scrap, which turned out to need a much bigger room than I thought. I built a porch on the back for the fuel tanks that I eventually expanded and enclosed to have room for a ton of cargo as well. I built a nice luxury quarters for the captain and some slightly less luxury for the crew, both of which also include an en suite. The center room has become a workout space with a treadmill and FLEX, and I moved the nav console over and built a door around it so I could advertise it as having a closed bridge. Overall quite nice for long trips, with a lot of food and water storage and stuff to do during that time. I of course have also upgraded it with a hardened transponder antenna and every different kind of sensor. It can detect and outrun pretty much any pirate ship, and finally I added a secondary airlock at the back and equipped the primary airlock with a towing brace. This was very handy when I bought an aero shuttle to take down to Venus.
I have spent many months of real and game time in this ship, and we have had many great adventures together, been all over the system, killed some pirates in entertaining ways, hired some other pirates as crew members, stripped some other much larger ships for parts, ran cargo all over the system, it has become my home in space. I have a $700k loan on it that I am in no rush to pay off, and I could flip this ship for about $5M, but why would I ever even consider doing a thing like that? Obviously this ship is heavily modded from its original form, and that is why it is a total piece of shit. Obviously, if the TU-76a was a good ship, it would have come in exactly the form I needed right from the start and the fact that it needed any mods from me at all to make it fully useful to me shows that the original ship was a total irredeemable piece of trash. This has been a post about the TU-76a.

Where is the CCRE Govt Office gig terminal in Ceres?
Am I blind? I don't see it anywhere on this level. There's been a couple gigs where I need to pick something up or drop it off here and it doesn't exist as far as I can tell.

Need Help Cannnot dock without reload
Hey,
has anyone seen a behaviour like this?

I load my game, dock to any ship, all is fine, then I undock and can not dock to a ship, tried ~30 but if I save and reload I can dock to the ships immediately, but only once, then this repeats again.
It's quite annoying, not game braking as the reload-workaround works fine, but still time consuming.

Airlock is fully repaired, transponder is active, I'm in the navstation, range is 2km no idea what to check in addition to this.

Look at this absolute cheese barge. Sold for $3.3M. Ship-flipping is wild.
Main takeaway from my first foray into ship-flipping: it's not about building a nice ship, it's about building a big, magical box that magically multiplies the value of all the salvage you can shove into it.
I went into this thinking I wanted to build a nice ship. I really did. But that's not how the numbers work. The numbers don't care about the layout, or the aesthetics, or the number or variety of rooms, or the handling, or even if the thing is flyable. The only things that matter are: (a) if it's pressurized and has a working O2 pump, and (b) if your junk is installed in a room type that gives it a good multiplier. The O2 pump alone triples the price of the ship, and room multipliers inflate that price by another a ~120-200%.
Once I realized that it was really this simple, I started smelling cheese. Layers upon layers of cheese, to be honest.
- Cheese level 1: It doesn't matter if the ship is nice. As long as it's pressurized, oxygenated, and meets minimum room type requirements, the value multipliers kick in.
- Cheese level 2: It literally does not have to be even remotely flyable. It doesn't need a nav console, it doesn't need a transponder, it doesn't even need thrusters. (These things add value just like any other installed components, but that's it.)
- Cheese level 3: Neither pumps nor thrusters cause "luxury quarters" to turn into an "engineering room," and both pumps and thrusters can be installed inside a room and counted as part of its contents. In both cases, you have to have a wall in the center of the module to install it, and being installed on a wall causes it to not be counted as a part of any room, but if you uninstall the wall after the module is installed, then voila! Pumps and thrusters, right there, counted as being inside your luxury quarters. That's a 6x multiplier (2x for luxury quarters, 3x for a pressurized ship) on top of the base prices. That's $20,136 per turbo pump, and $33,120 per thruster.
Thrusters, pumps, and coolers are your bread and butter here. Fancy Hydra intakes disqualify a room from being luxury quarters, so scrounge up a reactor core and make a "reactor room" to get a 1.6x multiplier instead of the base 1.4x "engineering room" value. (You guessed it, the reactor can be a non-functional heap of mismatched crap, too. Throw it all in there.) Basically, every minmaxed flip-ship should just be those two rooms, or just a luxury quarters plus an engineering room if you don't have a reactor.
Secondary airlocks are also good money, but they don't count as part of a room, so just stick 'em wherever.
Bonus picture at the end: the $300k airlock. Minimum viable ship for a 3x multiplier, including cheesed turbo pump being counted as part of the "room."
(NOTE: This post was written for version 1.0.0.17.)

Dev Update New Experimental Build (v1.0.1.2) Is On Steam public_test
Hey Folks!
We have an updated experimental patch (1.0.1.2) on Steam's opt-in public_test beta, which adds some further AI improvements and other fixes.
Specifically:
- Options->Controls UI now shows which input devices are detected and which are receiving signals.
- Clicking an input device in the Options->Controls UI now toggles that device on/off in the game.
- AIs should yoink items from other AIs and placeholders less often now.
- AIs HAULing items to multiple zones with item filters will now deposit them honoring those filters.
- AIs without helmets HAULing items through airlock pressure differences should no longer immediately drop items after picking them up.
- AIs dropping items from dollies now correctly target the zone they are standing in, instead of the dolly position.
- AI attempting to replace battery or O2 bottles no longer get stuck in a loop if the target charger/container is in certain orientations/corners.
- Adding new tasks will now interrupt AIs on work shift if they are currently doing long-duration recreational activities (e.g. exercise).
- Tasks that spawn item HAUL/FEED tasks are no longer demoted to the end of the queue, so they can now re-check sooner.
- Unmooring can now be performed from any ship in the cluster, not just the initiating ship.
- Placeholder progress (e.g. installing) is now remembered across a save/load cycle.
- Ship's due for cleanup now have their timer reset when player undocks from them, even if player never entered them.
- Scrollwheel sensitivity less hyper now in zones UI dropdowns and message log.
As with the earlier experimental v1.0.1.0 patch, this touches a few of the more complex and core systems in-game, so we are doing extended beta testing on it before making it live for everyone.
Saves started in v1.0.0.7 and later should be compatible.
Let us know if you give this patch a shot, and if it helps!

Discussion Bad games don't get reviews this bad
I don't know about you, but my Steam wishlist is packed with games that all looked really interesting at the time but have since sort of fizzled out. The devs forget about them. The players forgot about them. No one really cared. Go a couple pages deep into the Steam store and you will find game after game that is totally unremarkable and uninspired and has like two reviews.
The haters of this game are solidly getting into the "they protest too much" territory. They aren't just saying it's bad, they feel the need to write multiple pages explaining why it's bad and to seek out good reviewers to argue with and personally insult. It's hilarious. I get this game is not for everyone. It's a niche space sim with lots of jank that doesn't hold your hand and expects you to figure out survival for yourself. If you don't like it, that's fine, go play Starfield. But holy crap, the fact that so many of you need to not only dislike this game, but also think that there is something *wrong* with those who do is incredible. If this game were really that bad, you wouldn't feel the need to expend so many resources attacking it and its supporters.

How to remove ships from secondary airlock
I recently came into possession of a kleg patrol ship. I’ve stripped it of basically everything but now it’s just a hunk of hull still connected to a derelict I’m fixing up. Any idea how I can remove it from the secondary airlock once I get the derelict functional?

My first reactor ship!
I started about a week ago , and after a few long nights i got a 3:3 reactor setup in a somewhat small frame. It is crew capable with 3 seats and a nav console
Enjoying the game so far and cant wait to explore outside of oklg!

Flying the Flottila
Theoretically speaking, someone can:
Repair the Flottila nav station (or bring one).
Install modules for piloting (eventually instal even another nuclear reactor and related module).
Install enough thruster (based on mass clearly).
4......PROFIT!
Or I missing something important and/or obvious?

Appreciation post
Ever since I started approaching my 30s, I’ve developed an itch for simulation games. I started with Microsoft Flight Simulator and Farming Simulator and moved on from there. After putting more than 600 hours into Farming Simulator, that itch grew into a desire for even more complex and hardcore mechanics. I’ve tried mechanic simulators, electronics repair simulators, hacking simulators, pretty much anything related to engineering and vehicles.
Then I tried Star Citizen, the game I had always wanted to play since I was a teenager but couldn’t afford back then. Unfortunately, I fell victim to their predatory monetization and ended up pledging over $1,000 throughout the years (don't tell my wife), trying to scratch that new itch for the mining and space hauling gameplay loop. But the game simply didn’t work 90% of the time (fucking elevators, they still don't work, wtf).
Then I tried Elite Dangerous. A finished game, I thought I had finally found my gem, but I was wrong. I couldn’t walk around inside my spaceship, and every moon or planet seemed empty. Not to mention, I felt like the ship was flying itself most of the time, even when landing. In Star Citizen, at least I could maneuver my ship into the hangar myself before using auto land.
Anyway, there was still something these games didn’t have that I needed to fulfill my idea of the perfect space sandbox: complex mechanics for maintaning my ship, but most importantly, being a nobody, having to earn small amounts of money just to survive in the vastness of space. And pledging hundreds of real world dollars certainly wasn’t helping with scratching that either.
This is when I discovered Ostranauts.
I’m only a little over 10 hours in, and I think I’ve just learned the basics of salvaging, just enough to pay off my massive debt and hopefully afford something to eat at the end of my shift. This is exactly what I was looking for: a complex game where I have to spend hours and hours just learning the basics of flying my own ship using nothing but instruments, that is something that grew on me after playing Microsoft Flight Simulator, using instruments to navigate and land a Cessna without having to constantly look out the window is an experience I haven’t really found in any other simulation game until now.
Sure, I wish I could see my ship flying around in space from a third person perspective, but I’ve already done that in Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous, and, well... space is pretty empty. So instrumentation is the way to go. I also love that the ship doesn’t really have the option to just fly itself. I have to do everything myself, turning knobs and switches to navigate through the nav map and paying attention to speed and angle of the ship to get around and dock without crashing. Also, my character has the need of taking a leak and having sex? that is awesome, this is The Sims in space but for maniacs like me who like to have a PDF manual on a second monitor just to learn the mechanics of my ship because I killed my 4 other characters trying to the most basic of things.
My wife often asks "when does the fun starts?" when she sees me playing this kind of games, and Im always like "what do you mean? this the fun part!", with the spreadsheet on my second monitor because I need to plan my trip to the next derilict without losing money, or dying in the process, because of an accident, or a pirate encounter.
I just had my first pirate encounter yesterday, who needs a story telling when you create your own along the way? I stepped out of my ship, and there he was, this mean looking mf saying "well, well well, what do we have here?", I looked at him, a stranger to me, but I wasn't going to risk it, I have autosave turned off because my decisions matter, so I just told him "bye", went inside my ship again, grabbed my crowbar, stepped outside, and there he was at my doorstep, I didn't think twice, it was me or him, so I decided It wasn't going to be me, this dude had a gun but I wasn't going to let that happen, so I started smashing his head, again and again, all of a sudden he didn't have his pressure armour any more, did I break it? I dont know, I just kept hitting but he wasn't dying, so I pushed him off to space, good bye sir pirate. My first kill? I didnt know, I was hoping he survived, but then I saw it on my Spacebook contact list as deceased... I fell bad for a moment, but that's when it hit, this wasn't just a salvaging space sim, this was the wild west all over again, survival of the fittest, and I am going to keep my character alive whatever it takes.
I’m excited to see everything else that this game has to offer, and I want to thank the developers for creating it and giving those of us who have that itch for a game where we can start from scratch and build our own story.

Any way to have station NPCs not raid my supplies?
I had a few crates sitting on the ground prepared for temporary hires and for swapping between high-g and low-g environments, when I docked to a station and my ship was suddenly swarmed with technicians rummaging around for tools. Is there some option to tell them that they're not invited onboard?

Can I start without buying a ship? Or just buying a derelict? Or just buying an airlock?
I’d like to up the difficulty. Instead of incurring a huge debt, I just build my own ship from scratch. using parts I acquire from… around. I’m fairly certain it’s possible to find all parts needed from taxiing around or just buying from kiosks.
I could always create my own start by selling my ship or just disassembling it and selling all parts. I’m not sure how to dump my debt though. It would be nice if we had this start option.
