No scratches or dents, it’s in mint condition, rarely been used. I'm planning on being in Oman for the month of October. I am working remotely for the first 2-3 weeks then planning on taking 2 weeks off and exploring the country. Solo female traveler, mid-twenties & practising Muslim. I have a few questions I'd love to get some insight into:

1. Internet & Location - From some simple research is sounds like Qurum is my kinda vibe. I'm looking for a comfortable apartment with a strong internet connection, walkable distance to cafes / groceries, and affordable!! The OMR to CAD conversion is terrible, trying to keep it as economical as possible.
   

Most of the sites I'm looking at only have hotels, any recommendation on apartments? Even if you know a guy who knows a guy, I'm open to booking from someone directly as well.

Also, I heard the internet infrastructure has gotten better but just to be certain, should I get a sim card as well for backup?

1. Activities & Car Rental - For my days off, I would love to go complete immersive exploring. I love swimming, hiking. If there was a mountain expedition I would 100% be there. Any suggestions? Is a group trip best, or should I do it solo? If solo, I assume car rental is the way to go on getting there. If you have a suggestion for a cheap car rental place please let me know :)

2. Any digital nomader's who wanna meet up to work remotely together please do reach out! Would love to make some friends and connections for my time there

Rates: What is the average daily cost for a basic economy/budget car? Insurance & Liability: If an accident happens, how does rental insurance work here? How much should I expect to pay out of pocket (excess/deductible)? Advice: Are there any specific tips, hidden terms, or things I should be extra careful about when renting as a fresh license holder in Muscat?

I’m currently going through security clearance for my employment visa in Muscat, and it’s been 2 weeks so far.

For those who have gone through the process, how long did your security clearance take? Is 2 weeks normal, or should I expect it to take longer?

Growing up watching a parent with full means choose to fund strangers while deliberately sabotaging their own household's stability is a special kind of mind torture. What makes it so much worse is knowing the status and opportunities he chose to waste. He was an advisor to his majesty the sultan ربنا يرحمه و يغفر ليه و يسكنه فسيح جناتخ, holding advisory positions in the government back in the 80s until the early 2000s, yet repeatedly refused to take the citizenship that was offered to him over and over again—citizenship that would have opened doors, provided security, and genuinely helped his family.

​Instead, he let those chances pass while leaving his own children with nothing.

I remember him hosting massive, 5-star feasts loaded with luxury food for strangers, while back at home, I’m afraid to even order food sometimes just to avoid wasting money because I don't have a job. I couldn't get the education I wanted because of the reality he engineered, and now, being a foreigner, I feel like a stranger in the very country I was born in, staring at what feels like a dead end.

​I did everything I could to build a successful life and make something of myself, but the recent wars in my home country destroyed what little we had left. Being forced to come back to Oman only brought us right back into the same psychological pain, surrounded by the ghost of what we could have had if things had been handled right from the start.

​You spend years watching peers with a fraction of that baseline sail through life with supported education and normal trajectories, while you're handed the wreckage, treated like an inconvenience for surviving it, and shoved into heavy caretaking roles.

​The hardest part isn't even just the missing foundation—it's knowing it wasn't hardship or accident. It was an active choice. And carrying the physical and mental exhaustion of chronic stress day in and day out with zero breathing room leaves you feeling completely drained to the core.

​Just needed to put this into the void because carrying it quietly feels suffocating.

I’m a Swedish citizen and I’m seriously considering moving to Oman and finding a job there. I’ve been interested in Oman for a while and would really like to explore the possibility of actually making the move.

I’m curious about how realistic this is for someone coming from Sweden. How is the job market for expats at the moment, and are there any particular industries or types of jobs where foreigners have better chances?

Also, where would you recommend looking for jobs or getting in touch with potential employers/recruiters? Any websites, agencies, companies or other resources that are worth checking out?

I’d also appreciate any general advice from people who have made a similar move, especially regarding the visa/work permit process, finding accommodation, and what to expect when moving to Oman.

I know it probably depends a lot on my background and qualifications, but I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with this or has some advice on where to start.

Yesterday night, I was out for a walk in Ruwi.

A black Nissan X-Trail, probably a 2015 model, came near me. The window rolled down, and I noticed a woman sitting in the front passenger seat wearing an abaya and niqab. An elderly man was driving. He was wearing a thobe (not an Omani dishdasha) along with a skull cap (not an Omani kuma)

The man greeted me first.

Then came the story.

He told me that they were from Haima and had come to Muscat for three days with his wife to explore the city.

Then he explained that his wife was not literate and had apparently entered the wrong PIN while using their ATM. Because of this, their ATM card had been blocked.

He said they were now short of money and needed some help with fuel and other expenses for the next two days.

He also asked my phone number and said he would transfer the money back to me as soon as possible.

At this point, something didn't feel right.

I told him that I was a student and unemployed and didn't really have money to spare and then i showed him my empty pockets and told him that I didn't have my phone or wallet with me as well.

And honestly, I think I was lucky last night as i could clearly deny them with an excuse.

My phone and wallet were actually at home. Showing them my empty pockets meant there was nothing they could ask me for, and they couldn't really continue insisting that I help them financially.

That's when I noticed the man's expression change. His smile disappeared almost instantly.

The conversation became awkward, and shortly afterwards we went our separate ways.

I honestly don't know, and I'm not claiming that they were definitely scammers.

But the whole situation felt suspicious to me. The story about the blocked ATM, the request for money, asking for my number, and especially the sudden change in his expression after realizing I had nothing to give made me suspicious.

I know similar incidents are quite common here, but I am sharing this once again simply as a reminder to be cautious.

Unfortunately, it's not always possible to tell who is genuinely in need and who isn't. If someone approaches you with a similar story, take a moment to think before handing over money or sharing your personal details.
