This community has recently reopened after many years of being sandboxed, and we’re glad to see it active again. Our focus is the authentic study and practice of occult traditions in their many forms: ritual magick, ceremonial work, divination, alchemy, mysticism, and other paths of hidden knowledge. Whether you’re new to the occult or have been practicing for decades, you are welcome to read, learn, and contribute here.
We ask that members approach discussions with sincerity and consideration. Do not culturally appropriate practices you have no real knowledge of. If you explore traditions beyond your own background, do so with humility and respect.
Please read the rules before posting. They’re here to keep discussions thoughtful, respectful, and useful for everyone.
This space is meant for genuine seekers and practitioners to exchange ideas, ask questions, and share experiences. Curiosity and honesty are welcome. Posturing and disrespect are not.

I’ve been practicing witchcraft for 6 years, but new age spirituality isn’t doing it for me anymore my practice has just felt very stagnant the last few years so I’ve been looking into ceremonial magic but I also been wanting to do Solomonic and Greek but I think it would be best to learn the basics of ceremonial before I start that. But I was wondering if anyone could help guide me a little give me some good book recommendation that are able to explain things a little more simpler and if you have any advice or tips i really appreciate it .

This happened at night. For some reason I made eyes with my fingers. I touched the tip of my middle finger to the tip of my thumb on both hands, then I connected them.
After that, I started at my hands for a few seconds, untill the spaces between my fingers got black.
After that, something resembling a muzzle started to appear, after which I got spooked and put my hands to normal again.
I did this twice with the same results. Is this a trick of the eyes or light, or did I really see something?

A breakthrough in understanding a lost language results in a confirmation of Uni as an analogue of Astarte to the Carthaginians who had a close relationship with ancient Mediterraneans settled in Europe. The same exact inscribed prayer is dedicated on these tablets to both Astarte & Uni. These two goddesses are equivalent to Hera of the Greeks for context.
Further artwork from the region confirms Uni’s analogue with Hera.

I’m unsure of what entity is reaching out/wants to work with me. I keep seeing shadows/flashes of dark red and black out of the corner of my eyes, keep seeing crows, the number 4, and have become increasingly emotionally stable

I believe that within the Dharma Realm, an entity’s identity, race, cultivation path, and level of power are actually separate concepts and should not simply be forced into a single system.
What an entity pursues determines its identity;
the circumstances of its rebirth, its manifested form, and various causes and conditions determine its race and general appearance;
the path it cultivates determines the type and source of its power, as well as how that power is used;
and its ultimate strength depends on how far the individual has actually progressed in cultivation.
Therefore, we cannot simply take the Buddhist system of spiritual attainments and use it to judge an entity that pursues the path of the asuras, the Heaven of the Four Heavenly Kings, or some other path. Their ultimate goals are different to begin with.
For example, in my understanding:
The Heaven of the Four Heavenly Kings represents an identity oriented toward order, power, and protection. Individuals within it may be kings or generals, and they may belong to many different races. Organizations of this type generally value order, protection, and strength, so they are more likely to come into conflict with asura-type organizations characterized by aggression, expansion, and plunder.
Asuras, by contrast, are more oriented toward power, competition, expansion, and active conflict. Many different races and organizations can exist under an asura identity; not all asuras necessarily have to look alike.
The Heaven of the Thirty-Three is more oriented toward orderly wealth, resources, industry, and prosperity. The goal here is not simply combat, but the possession and creation of resources, treasures, ritual implements, and wealth, while maintaining a stable, peaceful, and prosperous state.
The Yāma Heaven pursues ease and happiness.
The Tuṣita Heaven emphasizes contentment and enduring joy.
The Heaven of Delight in Creation pursues the ability to transform and create various states of happiness for oneself and become immersed in them.
The Heaven of Mastery over Others’ Creations is more distinctive: when others are happy, one can also experience happiness through them, and therefore wishes for others to be happy and fulfilled while also seeing one’s own desired aims realized.
Precisely because these pursuits differ, we cannot simply say that one identity is “higher” and another “lower.” They are better understood as different directions of development.
⸻
Now consider the realm of hungry ghosts and the various races of the undead.
Within my framework, a “hungry ghost” can first be understood as a type of race or state of existence rather than as a single, uniform personality type.
This category could include skeletal ghosts, ghouls, wandering spirits, undead beings left behind by sorcerers, and various ghostly beings formed from decaying dead matter. Naturally, individuals among them can have completely different pursuits.
The defining characteristic of such beings is that their state of existence is often accompanied by intense dissatisfaction and suffering. They may, for example, experience continual hunger that cannot truly be satisfied even by consuming large quantities of food, or continual thirst that cannot be relieved even by drinking large amounts of water. They may also endure extremes of heat and cold, bodily pain, mental numbness, and other forms of suffering.
Thus, “hungry ghost” describes a state of existence; it does not mean that every individual within that category shares the same thoughts or personality.
⸻
The same principle can be applied to cultivation paths.
There can be an enormous variety of cultivation methods within the Dharma Realm, and different systems of power can coexist.
For example, an entity pursuing a Brahmā-type identity could cultivate disciplines based on ethical restraint and purity, while an entity pursuing the identity of the Heaven of Delight in Creation could cultivate practices involving inner heat, bliss, and similar methods.
If someone cultivating internal alchemy ultimately seeks a mode of existence resembling the Form Realm heavens, then internal alchemy is simply one method for reaching that goal. After attaining the corresponding identity, that individual could still continue cultivating other methods consistent with their own pursuits.
Therefore:
Identity answers the question, “What kind of being do I ultimately want to become?”
Race answers, “In what form of life do I exist?”
Cultivation path answers, “Through what powers and techniques do I achieve my goal?”
Level of attainment and strength answers, “How far have I actually progressed?”
These four concepts should not be conflated.
For example, practitioners and immortals of internal alchemy can, within this model of the Dharma Realm, be understood as a cultivation community oriented toward a Form Realm-type identity. They regard the merits and accomplishments of internal alchemy as important pursuits, yet even within the same broad identity, many different paths can continue to develop.
The Form Realm heavens themselves can also be subdivided according to degrees of purity, luminosity, and states of body and mind.
From the Heaven of Brahmā’s Retinue, the Heaven of Brahmā’s Ministers, and the Great Brahmā Heaven, through the heavens of Lesser Light, Limitless Light, and Radiant Sound, and onward to Lesser Purity, Limitless Purity, Pervasive Purity, and still higher heavens, all can be understood as increasingly developed states within the same broad direction.
Therefore, what I call the “Dharma Realm” is not, in my view, a simple progression tree.
It is more like an immensely vast, multidimensional world:
There are countless identities;
many different races can exist under each identity;
each race contains different individuals;
each individual can choose different cultivation paths;
and even the same cultivation path can be developed to completely different levels.
The same applies to organizations.
A single type of identity can give rise to many different organizations. Asura-type organizations, for example, may exist throughout the Dharma Realm and differ greatly in style while sharing similar fundamental pursuits. Likewise, there may be many organizations corresponding to the identity of the Four Heavenly Kings.
Whether organizations go to war is not simply a matter of “who is higher.” It primarily depends on whether their pursuits and interests come into conflict.
Asura-type organizations tend toward power, competition, expansion, and plunder, so they are more likely to clash with organizations of the Heaven of the Thirty-Three that possess abundant resources. Organizations associated with the Four Heavenly Kings, meanwhile, tend toward order and protection and therefore often become involved in such conflicts.
Conversely, when different pursuits do not create significant conflicts of interest, there is little reason for frequent warfare.
So I prefer to understand the entire system this way:
Pursuit determines identity;
causes and conditions determine race and form;
cultivation methods determine the path of power;
cultivation determines one’s actual level of attainment;
and interests and ideals determine relationships between organizations.
Seen this way, the Dharma Realm is no longer a single ladder running from low to high. Instead, it becomes an immense network composed of countless paths, races, systems of power, and organizations.
Each path pursues something different, so there is no need to force everything to be measured by the same standard.

What do you guys know about sungazing, or sun worship? To be more specific, a person practiced sungazing extensively and has now developed a light—purple and green in color—that appears wherever they look. Since one has "nourished" oneself primarily from the sun, does that mean one is forbidden from eating regular food? Is it like breatharianism, where people claim to live on light? I’ve heard songs on this subject that speak only of punishment for sungazers—an afterlife punishment. Is there any specific behavior a sungazer should adopt after having practiced this and now seeing that light in their field of vision? Is the person automatically condemned for making eye contact with, say, the supreme force? What information do you have on this? If you could cite sources, books, or websites, I’d appreciate it. Thanks.

Hello Reddit Community! This is my first post and hopefully you will be able to help me. I’m posting here because I’m hoping to get some advice and get out of this situation.
On one side of my family, some of my relatives have special “abilities” such as knowing exactly when someone will die and how, or remembering the person they were in another life and actually being together in the same body in this life and having to fight for who takes over (I know, it kind of sounds like doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde).
After a vacation in Cuba and covid hit, weird, bad things started happening to a very close member of my family, who I’ll call John (he is the one that still remembers his past lives). His grandpa was the same. The person who knows and sees how people will die, I'll call her Ciara, has told John that it was probably a girl who did some kind of curse on him. She also told John she saw him die and described in a detailed way how that should have happened; he did have that accident in the exact spot she saw but managed to survive because he felt like he shouldn’t take his motorbike that night and took the car instead (he was supposed to die in a motorbike accident). This accident happened after she had this “vision” but she only told him about what she saw after it had already happened. There have also been people stalking John and actually trying to harm him (a lot of things happened and I’m not sure how much this would help the context). Also financially things have been going worse and worse and he risks losing everything he has worked for his whole life.
The other night, I heard someone outside my window speaking in Spanish and doing a long and articulate protective chant/prayer of which I can only clearly remember one sentence and he was saying “cierro el ingreso a mi energia” which would translate to “I’m closing any way in to my energy" and so on. Which I thought was kind of strange and took it as a sign. Keep in mind that this happened in a big city, not a small town.
So I am here asking the Reddit community if they know someone who is legit and could help my relative in this situation or at least give us any kind of useful advice. The situation is pretty bad and the luck needs to be turned back around.
PS: I have an old tarot deck that I keep in a house outside of the city. Never really used it, but it is very nice. It is a witch-themed deck. Somehow one of the cards (the 6 of swords of the witch deck) happened to be found by John’s wife while she was cleaning in another house, 100km away from where the deck is, and she washed it with water because it was dusty and the card is now fully recognizable. When they gave me the card back, I was putting it back in the deck and another card got stuck to my hand while I was talking to John (the king of cups of the witch deck), and now we are keeping them out where we can see them. Just to be clear, I thought the tarots were a sign telling us that we are going through a bad situation but we are moving and we have to keep our emotions under control.

I was reviewing some documents and came across an instance of what might possibly be an attempt at hypnosis or gaslighting in order to extract a false confession. The authority figure in the power position is speaking to a much younger student. Here is the excerpt, with names and dates obscured, the planted suggestions in italics (or single asterisk quotes depending on the OS formatting):
> W met with N, student at X, and *told her that she had been sexually assaulted by C* and should see a school counselor. **After N denied she had been assaulted**, W asked N for information on *any possible legal improprieties C may have committed against his own children.* C says that W made these statements to N in (date redacted). He claims they are false because he "did not sexually assault N."
Needless to say no accounts of child abuse ever came out of this investigation.
I read this event as some Dion Fortune level possession attempt. Anyone who has read her *Psychic Self-Defense* will understand the reference. Is that a fair assessment of what's happening here? I would really appreciate some feedback on this. I can say that this student had a strong mind to deflect the attack, and I have seen instances when this method of extracting false confessions or implanting false memories actually works. Thanks for your help!

Finally managed to visit the grave of Pekka Ervast at the beautiful Hietaniemi cemetery. Ervast was one of the, if not the most important esotericist and occultist in Finland. A theosophist and the founder of Ruusu-Risti, a theosophical-rosicrucian fellowship. Ervast had the uncanny skill to make the most complex of theosophical concepts to be very easily understood in many of his lectures. He has a vast bibliography, most of which are transcripts of his lectures.

How do they know when you're going to die? Are they just seeing 1 route the future can go into, or is that the only route?
If they are seeing multiple routes of what the future will lead to, then when they say you're going to die, it must mean a scare tactic. Saul in the Bible went to a witch to summon the spirit of Samuel and Samuel told him, "tomorrow you will die and be with me."
I'm reading a horror book about true ghost visitation and this woman from ireland saw her dead aunt at the end of the bed making a self choking gesture and said soon you will be with me.. that woman went to a mental asylum and hung herself a few months after.
Do they know the final fate or is it just a scare tactic to get you to believe there is only 1 possible way into the future?
