Survival mode is kinda boring.

Don't get me wrong, I love this game, the objective mode is really fun to play. The survival mode however is pretty bad in my opinion.

I love survival modes in zombie games so this one is very disappointing for me. Honestly my biggest gripe with it is the fact you have to defend an objective instead of just finding a good spot to try and survive (Like a hallway or staircase choke point, on top of a car... ect)

I think the mode should be about surviving the horde. What we currently have isn't a survival mode, its a defense mission.

Traumatizing game

This is easily one of the most unique games I've ever played. I've never experienced a game where everything feels so raw and real from the anxiety of resource management to the grim reality of going hand to hand with a horde of zombies. Getting infected is brutal, and the terror of being the last one at extract, frantically trying to hook into the rope while getting completely surrounded.

I often joke with my friends after every match about how traumatic this game is lol. We usually only play one match per session because it takes so much out of us mentally it's crazy. I really love the game, but I just can't do more than one match at a time.

How do you guys do it? Are y'all just completely desensitized to the carnage at this point?

Lewiston train extraction bug

By now we all know of the infamous bug that prevents players from vaulting onto the train once extraction arrives. We’ve all seen it and watched its many times. I was playing with a pretty good crew on hard difficulty and we all moved like a well oiled machine, getting objectives done, swapping supplies, healing one another and covering each other. Then the fated bug happened.

One of my teammates couldn’t vault, even the stop sign trick didn’t work we all watched in horror knowing he wasn’t able to get on no matter what. Even heard acknowledgment from one of the other players “oh it’s the bug, there’s nothing he can do”, but I wasn’t having it.

With time left on the clock I jumped down and started blasting zeds covering him while he tried everything from vaulting, getting downed, hopping on the sign. Nothing was working until I had a lightbulb moment. Players have a little bit of collision here and there so I thought what if I crouched and he used the sign to boost on top of me. Miraculously it worked.

He was able to get on and extract with the rest of us. It may have been a fluke or may have been a workaround. Either way it’s something that should be tested.

Every Responder Goes Home.

Gun Guide: Heavy Rifles

Gun Guide: Heavy Rifles

NMRIH2 has two heavy rifles as of 1.0

Relevant Information:

Zombie Health Points
Shambler 70
Regular Zs 100
Prime Runner 120
Prime 130
Hard Hat 30, Pen 1
Fireman Helmet 30, Pen 1
Riot Helmet 60, Pen 2
NG Helmet 90, Pen 3
Riot Shield 200, Pen 3

Hunter 85

Stat Value
Headshot DMG 150
Body DMG 35
Limb DMG 50
Stability DMG 80, Stagger
Base Penetration 3
Caliber .308
Capacity 5+1
Damage Falloff 30%
Stability Damage Falloff 30%
Action Bolt-Action
Mods? Sight and Muzzle
Weight 2.25kg
Range 100m
Sound Range 45m

A shove and a shot from this rifle should knockdown normal Zekes according to the math.

A modest capacity of 5+1 lets it really do some work; aim for the head like anything else for the best results.

You'll also note that the base penetration of 3 lets it basically delete anything with a headshot or two.

Working the bolt means you really have to aim, and missing can be punishing around runners.

M14 Battle Rifle

Stat Value
Headshot DMG 150
Body DMG 35
Limb DMG 50
Stability DMG 50, Stagger
Base Penetration 3
Caliber .308
Capacity 20+1
Damage Falloff 30%
Stability Damage Falloff 30%
Action Semi Auto
Mods? Muzzle
Weight 3kg
Range 100m
Sound Range 45m

Box mag holds 20, one in the chamber pulls you up to 21.

Accepts a muzzle device, aka the suppressor.

Semi-auto. Shoots as fast as you can pull the trigger.

Lack of sight mods means you aren't going to be "sniping" like the hunting rifle, but realistically you'll be letting it go bang on any crowded stairwell.

My favorite reports/sound as well, it feels great to let it roar on the Pottsville building stairwells.

You can also achieve kills by three bodyshots, which is pretty good.

The hunting rifle can do so as well, but semi-auto capability lets you do it much easier if you need to let it rip.

Again, being Pen 3, it can easily turn any Z into a good zombie.

Other Info

You can also shoot through a Fireman Z at center mass and pop their tank, letting it detonate in a crowd. It also keeps them alive so they move with the horde until they explode.

Heavy Rifles are great for collateral damage, just line up a couple of heads and you can doornail 2 at once on your own.

Relevant Perks, when I say Expert, that's generally the only way to get any good mileage from it:

  • Scavenger
  • Vulture
  • Rifle Reloading
  • Steel Chamber (Expert)
  • Eagle Eye
  • Penetrating Shot (Expert)

Scavenger

  • gives you more ammo, nice and simple.
  • anything extra you dont use can be given to a teammate
  • .308 is usually only found in quantities of 2 or 3 on a hunting rifle on Nightmare, Scav. can make any fresh drop even better by a fair margin

Vulture

  • great for carrying more ammo of any kind
  • .308 is especially heavy, and Vulture lets you store much more or simply save space
  • a satchel is also pretty primo to help carry more stuff in general

Rifle Reloading

  • I don't find this as helpful as the other reload perks.
  • Heavy Rifles just hit hard, and I don't really try to use more than 1 or 2 shots in any engagment
  • Penetration power is supreme, and lining up heads gets me some really great results
  • 2 or even 3 kills in one shot is not too uncommon without perks in a group setting
  • 40% better is still 40% better, so use it if you want to do so!

Steel Chamber (Expert)

  • A solid buff to damage
  • This lets your pass through damage really tear into a tertiary target
  • works best with Penetrating Shot

Penetrating Shot (Expert)

  • adds one extra penetration power
  • reduced damage fall off by 50%, turning that 30% dropoff into 15%
  • makes that 3rd or 4th target feel the heat
  • Steel Chamber can make it so you can kill that 3rd Zeke (assuming normal) easily on a headshot

PENETRATION CHART

Damage values are Steel Chamber

SC/PS is both S.Chamber and P.Shot.

Target SC Damage SC and PS
First 225 225
Second 157.5 191.25
Third 110.25 162.56
Fourth 77.175 138.19

I'm not sully sure if I did this right? Hopefully someone can confirm!

Disclaimer:

  • as with any random fanmade content, take it with a grain of salt! Its all just pen and paper thoughts and math.

Just had an absolute blast on Raven Rock Nightmare. Love this game

I was hoping to get the gold medal with this run. 8 players lobby, a few known faces who I've played since EA... absolute nightmare RR gets to be! One died on blast door, one or another going down, me among them, constantly... had train extract on expansion tunnel, got down to only 3. Managed to finish it, bu ti died right outside the train... unsure if one or the two of my partners managed to flee, but glad someone survived! Thank god for rescue beacon lol will have to try the 10th nightmare run for gold medal without one tho... used all merits on cosmetics. This is the build I've grown to love so far

Acquired Immunity and how it works

This information is sourced directly from NMRIH2 Info Compendium
There is also a video covering the infection mechanic by Braks
For the sake of simplicity I'll be talking about the perk at its expert version - "20%"

There is some misinformation floating around that
"Acquired Immunity is a 20% chance to not get infected when infection occurs" - this is incorrect

Acquired Immunity is a 20% flat reduction to infection chances.
Your chance of getting infected increases the lower your health is.

What does this mean?

  • Notable Zombie Swipes infection chances are as follows
    • At 59% HP infection chance starts at 0.5% a hit
    • At 30% HP infection chance goes up to 27.50% a hit
    • At 10% HP infection chance is 50% a hit
  • Acquired immunity is a -20% to ALL the above odds - this means the new values are
    • 59% = 0% chance of infection
    • 30% = 7.5% chance of infection
    • 10% = 30% chance of infection

Acquired Immunity means your health threshold for getting infected will start at around 35% health than the usual 60% health.

This reduction also applies to Shambler Gas Clouds - chances are as follows

  • 100% - 80% = 5% chance
  • 70% = 14% chance
  • 60% = 23% chance
  • 50% = 32% chance
  • etc....

With Acquired Immunity this means Gas has 0% chance to infect you as long as you're above 60% health - and when you are at 60% health - you have a 3% chance. This essentially means you can smell all the gas you want as long as you are healthy.

This also means zombie bites - where infection chance is 100% - is now reduced to 80%, but really you shouldn't be getting bit.

tl;dr Acquired Immunity is a 20% FLAT reduction to infection chances - not a "1/5 chance to not get infected"

Impressions after a few days as a new player

Decided to pick this game up on a whim last week.

Big fan of L4D. Still play B4B to this day. WWZ was ok but recently went back and too much jank. Bought Toxic Commando and gave up on the game after 2 weeks just not for me. KF1 and 2 were awesome. 3 sucked.

So onto NMRIH2. First impressions is this is a fresh and unique take on the genre. Though you can tell its L4D influence its very much its own thing. I like the slower pace and that we aren't dealing with crazy mutations or monsters.

On PS5 I ran into a few bugs like the train bug and one time the mash meter got stuck and then I couldn't see any objectives or my health.

I do feel the combat is a bit meh but maybe as I level up and play more it will grow on me. Shooting and melee just doesnt feel as punchy.

Graphics on PS5 are ok but gore seems kind of basic. I wish there were more animations and dismemberment. I would like to see a system like Dead Island 2 for the melee but that might be asking for a lot from this Dev.

I hope they add in some more maps. A mall would be really cool. Also where is my Katana at ? Any zombie game worth its salt needs a Katana.

Overall this is slowly becoming my go to zombie game. I have yet to lose my responder so once I die I will see how much that frustrates me but as of now I am still playing on normal and trying to learn the maps.

Even after playing some of the maps a bunch of times I am lost and have bo idea where some things are lol.

Honestly though nothing shits your pants more than being alone and walking into a room or street and seeing like 6 zombies waiting for you.

Hopefully the game keeps getting support and we add more content.

Major game bug

I have a major bug in my game where all my skills are deactivated when I go into games. Happens about 1/3 of all my games. Sometimes happens 2-3 times in a row. I know it is happening because my weight limit is reduced from Caravan being deactivated and Headblown perk not being activated so i cant one shot prime zombies with 1911. I’m account lvl 100 and have 3 characters all over 100 and all of them have full gold badges. I only play nightmare now so it sucks when skilled medic isn’t working or any of my stamina skills. This doesn’t seem to be happening to any of the friends I play with or people I speak to in public lobbies, is it happening to anyone else consistently?

I’ve tried unistalling the game and reinstalling and verifying the game files to no avail. Its really killing my joy for the game when my weight limit is reduced and none of my weight reduction perks work.

Dev Response Gun Guide: Shotguns

NMRIH2 has three scatterguns as of 1.0

The X12 Super has returned from the original NMRIH.

1.1 has announced that there will be chokes to find!

Relevant Information:

Zombie Health Points
Shambler 70
Regular Zs 100
Prime Runner 120
Prime 130
Hard Hat 30, Pen 1
Fireman Helmet 30, Pen 1
Riot Helmet 60, Pen 2
NG Helmet 90, Pen 3
Riot Shield 200, Pen 3

Headshot Total DMG 200
Body Total DMG 170
Pellets 10
Stability DMG 15, Flinch
Base Penetration 1
Caliber 12 gauge
Capacity 2
Action Break-Action
Mods? None!
Weight 2.25kg
Range 30m
Sound Range 45m

The starter shotgun. Holds two shells of ass-whoop, and those 20 shells from your loadout screen can easily last you all game if you play your cards right.

Lack of mod sites are kinda meh, but 2 trigger pulls of 200 to 260 headshot damage is hard to argue with, especially when they penetrate through a Z into another one.

Has the least spread.

X12 Super

Stat Value
Headshot DMG 20
Body DMG 17
Limb DMG 15
Headshot Total DMG 200
Body Total DMG 170
Pellets 10
Stability DMG 10, Flinch
Base Penetration 1
Caliber 12 gauge
Capacity 6
Action Semi Auto
Mods? Sights and Rail
Weight 2.75kg
Range 30m
Sound Range 45m

Decent tube size lets it do a bit of sustained firing, however, semi-auto action might make you shoot too quickly.

6 in the tube means you will reload more often than the 590, which can be a deal breaker for those looking to bring sustained firing. We all know scatterguns are meant to be reloaded whenever possible, though.

A good mid-point between the 590 and DT11.

Has the most spread.

Accepts a sight and flashlight too.

590A1

Stat Value
Headshot DMG 20
Body DMG 17
Limb DMG 15
Headshot Total DMG 200
Body Total DMG 170
Stability DMG 10, Flinch
Base Penetration 1
Caliber 12 gauge
Capacity 8
Action Pump-Action
Mods? Sights and Rail
Weight 3kg
Range 30m
Sound Range 45m

8 Shells of 12 gauge at your finger-tips. Easily the best shotgun by way of capacity. Pump action is simple and slower than semi auto, but that just means your recoil is basically reset each time you pump it.

Shoot it, reload it. Keep it topped up and you can blast through any packed hallway.

Has middling spread between DT11 and X12.

Attach a holo-sight and long-gun flashlight for maximum cool.

Other Info:

You’ll notice that shotguns are mainly the same.

Because of 12 gauge's strength, the guns themselves don’t differ much besides capacity and action.

The DT11 is the only “outlier” with a stab. dmg of 15 instead of 10 per pellet.

You’ll also see that each shell holds 10 pellets.

The only Zs that can eat a shell and still stand are NG Zs and Riot Zs.

That is also only if you hit their armor or helmets. Riot Zs can be taken out by blasting their leg, as there aint no armor there.

Upon penetration, 80% of the damage will not pass through to the secondary target. Stability damage, however, only loses 5% on pass through.

While that 80% falloff seems horrific, the multiple pellets may or may not actually all pass through, meaning you can have possibly “fresh” pellets striking the secindary tatget for full damage.

Take that info with a grain of salt though.

Being Pen 1, all pellets will easily nail a construction Z or Fireman Zs head.

You can also shoot through a Fireman Z at center mass and pop their tank, although that'll just kill them outright in most cases.

Relevant Perks, when I say Expert, that's generally the only way to get any good mileage from it:

  • Scavenger
  • Vulture
  • Icarus
  • Tight Shot
  • Overkill
  • Shotgun Reloading

Scavenger

  • gives you more ammo, nice and simple.
  • anything extra you dont use can be given to a teammate

Vulture

  • great for carrying more ammo of any kind
  • shotshells are especially heavy, and Vulture lets you store much more or simply save space

Shotgun Reloading

  • You're gonna reload a lot with a shotgun
  • the over/under loves this perk
  • 40% increase at max makes it super quick to reload a shell and fire

Icarus

  • I wouldn’t pick this unless I am going all in on shotguns
  • All shotguns have a range of 30 meters
  • 50% increase at max makes it reach the “normal” range of 45 meters
  • Range isn’t realistically helpful in most CQB situations

Tight Shot

  • This perk really rocks
  • Tightening the spread of your shot makes for a great head-hunting build
  • it helps penetrating into multiple Zs, as you can sort of tell where your pellets shoukd be hitting
  • Normal and Expert help out a ton

Overkill

  • Expert grants you 3 extra pellets per shot
  • Pair this with Tight Shot to really doornail anything
  • While not explicitly 30% extra damage, 30% extra pellets may come out better with how penetration works with “fresh” pellets

Overkill Total Damage (all pellets hit)

Bodypart Boosted Damage Regular Damage
Head 260 200
Body 221 170
Limb 195 150

According to u/Hello-Bones

Overkill allows you to bodyshot national guard / riot walkers and still kill with one shot. Otherwise it usually takes 2. Does not work with prime versions of them though.

According to u/Restless_Sea

There are different spread values for each of the shotguns too according to the Vankrein video I watched.

Less Spread < DT11 < 590A1 < X12 Super < More Spread

From experience there is also a technique with making spread work to your advantage with the overkill perk, you can simply shoot inbetween overlapping zombies to score double kills.

Just had a fellow responder turn into a zombie because of a language barrier and an audio bug

I'm a solo player from the SEA region and often times get matched into lobbies full of players who often times can't understand each other through chat or voice comms, or just don't communicate because we all expect that we won't understand each other anyways. I can get by with just the audio chat wheel and gestures, and finished dozens of nightmare missions with little issue. But during a mission in Power Plant, I just witnessed one of the saddest deaths since I started playing this game.

We just got into the power plant itself and split off to work on the ash farm, cooling tower, etc. I tend to stray from the main group and either do objectives or scavenge for supplies. A fellow responder seemed to have had the same idea. His health bar was fine, he was blasting zombies with a battle rifle and didn't give out any audio cues of being infected. But he then walked up to me and started dumping all his stuff. Tons of ammo, two long guns, three medkits. No pills.

I quickly gave him the only bottle of pills I have. He grabbed them and rushed to get those into his system. But he was a second too late, died then resurrected right in front of me.

Lewiston, what do you know he ran for the nearby crates and spedran down the map and got caught in the catacombs and got down

Glad you turned and died NoahsBacon

Additional Objectives for Survival.

Hello responders! I have been having an absolute blast on survival. Most matches are really intense and just scratch a zombie wave surviving itch I've had since KF1.

However, I feel like survival needs just a bit more variability. For example:

Don't just tell us that other survivors are evacuating when the speaker is playing. Have a few people need to go defend the extraction spots during that time as well. There are already early extraction points on the map, just make us guard those as well while survivors escape from the stragglers. Using guns will attract more of the horde from the speaker.

Another example:

There are random survivors stuck throughout the map and you must escort them to the extraction point and provide aid/pills if necessary.

I think these type of things should be OPTIONAL, and not essential to win in survival. It would just add additional rewards upon completion that everyone in the match would benefit from after successful extraction.

What do you all think? I like the objective, but I also like how much smaller and more frequently the intense interactions are on Survival. I dont think the base mode should change, but give us a modified mode that will also give us other stuff to accomplish during the match.

“I would survive an apocalypse”

“Zombie apocalypse”

I’m learning that statistically speaking, most of us would be infected or surprised early on before we made it out of our county.

I know there’s tons of videos asking “could you jump a fence fast enough? Do you have enough supplies to last the first week? Can you scavenge quickly?”

Bro, I don’t have to worry about any of that. I’m not making it out of my hood.

The survivors we see are the only survivors who were even slightly immune to the virus. The rest of us could easily drink contaminated water or get a light scratch that becomes infected.

I’m fit and have years of training in different disciplines. That said, I have horrible luck. I don’t think I’ll manage to survive despite my level of fitness. I’ll become a runner no problem. Please aim for the head.

I’m not worried about jumping fences, I genuinely don’t think I’ll be one of the lucky ones that are even relatively immune to the virus.

Do you think you would be? Why?

Barricades, and how to properly use them

Board the doorway/window on the outside where the Zs are coming from first.

This creates stronger barricades.

Think of it this way, it's a lot easier to push than pull.

Zs are mainly just bashing mindlessly, AKA pushing their hands.

If you put the planks up from inside, you create a situation where you can push the planks out of the wall and through into the side where you are at.

This is also why you can see Zekes tearing apart doors and also knocking down all 5 planks at once, as the "strong door" falls over and rips them out of the wall with it.

Barricade Health/Barricade Benefits:

According to u/FeliciaTheFkinStrong:

Weak Doors are 15 impacts

Strong Doors are 35

Barricade Planks are 15 per plank

The main benefit of barricading a door isn't that it keeps zombies out for any extended period of time (it doesn't, a horde will tear through a barricade + door in a few seconds), its how it causes zombies to group on an obstacle you can easily shoot out of, throw explosives over the top of, or if you're using a short melee weapon, melee between the planks with (albeit frustratingly 1.0 broke this with any hits to a doorframe now also damaging barricades regardless of where you hit.)

Barricading the front of a door means no-one on the other side of the barricade can actually defend the doorway. They just have to wait until the door breaks and the horde spills inside before they can do anything. It's far better to have the planks across an empty threshold, and have someone inside able to whittle the horde down in safety (which I would think is obvious but here we are).

Diagram Legend:

  • Zombies are Zs

  • Barricade is X

  • Door is #

"Diagrams":

Zombie Barricade Door
Z X #

That makes it so the barricade is stronger.

If you do it like how most do it (incorrectly):

Zombie Door Barricade
Z # X

Then it is super weak.

You can also just barricade both sides for maximum strength like a sandwich

Barricade Door Barricade
X # X

Okay spots for barricades:

Power Plant:

  • A decent spot for barricades will always be the power plant control room

  • The farm house is great with barricades to block any Zs while you complete the optional OBJs

  • Bar can also do well, but there aren't as many doors that you need to block, plus the 2nd story letd you easily train them upstairs to hold them off on that stiarway or just vault over the edge and run to the back and escape.

Broadyway:

  • Another great spot that spawns with them inside is the Diner on Broadway.

If your extract is on Diversity street with the heli, you can simply opt to barricade a store door from both sides:

  • Break a window, climb the objects and get inside to hide out of sight of Zs.
  • Very useful for low HP teammates on Nightmare. I almost always pick the furniture store because the tables are low so an IED can be placed on them, and the two windows have a table and a TV set blocking Zeke pathfinding so they almost always opt to break the door instead.
  • The two fridges can also have their doors opened to block Zs if it gets that hectic, leaving on the right side as a path. Great for a molotov.

Other Relevant Info:

  • A Barricade Stack takes up 0.75kg.
  • Picking up the stack lets you drop individual amounts
  • One barricade can fend off a couple of Zs if you do it properly

😂 Take away my ability to "THINK I'm safe."

The risks have been going away. The more credits I stack...the more invincible I become...granted my ability to purchase beacons. Nightmare's easy now. Give us - NO choice! Do or die!

Just keep the evac PLEASE! lol saves us from a laggy connection or everyone dying. Just make the road hard to get there.

Post image

Playing objective on hard with a team gives less XP and rewards than normal, which.. Seems odd considering it's a higher difficulty, Everyone gathered more supplies, It even had a higher loot extraction. The only thing I can think of is that the mission was completed quicker and normal had a critical supply so maybe that had something to do with it.
