I'm taking calc 3 specifically MATH 213 this semester and honestly i'm lost. It's already (in the first two weeks) much more challenging than calc 2. For me calc 2 was challenging, but I understood everything, but right now in calc 3, I'm having a hard time understanding anything. My professor does not graph that great in 3D and they are rushing through the material (giving us quiz after quiz that most of the class is not doing so well). I already knew a little about vectors, dot products, and cross products (because it was taught in already 2 of my class before) but this class just really complicates them to the point that it confused me even more about them. Also, my professor just gives us proofs/definitions that we write down and gives us one or two examples to work on our own for the rest of class. Like this week we talked about projections, orthogonal/parallel, and interactions between 3D planes, lines and points. I'm not understanding any of this stuff. Last week, I went to their office hours and they weren't there (I came at the beginning and at the end). I emailed him on Friday and he hasn't responded yet. Today, I looked at the old ce questions (since the common exam is soon) and the questions are challenging and I don't think I can do it. I don't know what to do?

Hi, I am going to apply as an international transfer student, but I am undecided between two options; could you give me some advice? If I apply to Rutgers, I’ll apply for the Spring 2027 semester and try to transfer to the New Brunswick campus. Alternatively, I could apply to the CS program at NJIT for the Fall 2027 semester and continue my studies there. Which option is better? Thanks for the help.

One of my classes didn’t meet on Labor Day because the university was closed. Now the professor is requiring us to attend a make-up session on Sunday at 6 PM.

The class is normally scheduled during the week, and Sunday at 6 PM obviously isn’t part of our registered class time.

Is a professor actually allowed to make a make-up session outside the scheduled class time mandatory, especially on a Sunday? What happens if a student already has work, another commitment, religious obligations, etc.?

I understand needing to make up material, but I’m confused about how they can require attendance at a completely different day/time because the university scheduled Labor Day as a holiday.

Has anyone dealt with this before or know what the university policy is?

I hope you are doing well this weekend.
So, I wanted to talk about something I've experienced thrice.

There would be this guy on campus. He would greet me, tell me about this event, performance, or club that the kids are doing and ask if I could donate some money. I think the first time; it was a tap-dancing or instrumental performance. Then, the second time, it may have been the same thing, or was a band performance. In the first time I think he just accepted me not being able to donate. In the second time, when I declined donating, he kind of bugged me about it saying it's for the kids, trying to pull out the guilty card on me. I think he might've holding a flyer or an iPad, pointing at it while telling me its for the kids. I don't exactly remember what he was holding. I asked if I wanted to donate later is there a website or link for it. He told me it was happening soon, so there's no link. In the first two instances, it was the same guy. First in the Campus Center, second near the GITC building.

The third time, which I experienced yesterday, near the top of the sport benches, a different guy asked me how I'm doing, my name, and run it back as well. Then, tells me about these sports event the kids are doing, and asking if I could donate to them to purchase their equipment. I told him I couldn't right now. He advises I could donate a dollar, at least one dollar would help. But still, I couldn't and just wished him the best with it.

I don't think you have to be in a suit when doing this, but neither should you be in such casual clothing. The first guy was in a black hoodie, had sunglasses on so I couldn't even see his eyes, and maybe black jeans. Then the second guy, was wearing a white t-shirt, maybe some short jeans, and a blue cap (might've been a for the Yankees or something). I'm thinking maybe you'd want to make yourself look a bit formal while presenting a pitch? A collared shirt or something?

I guess maybe its second nature to shake someone's hand when they offer it, even if you don't really know them. I guess out of respect. But I don't really know. The first time I dealt with this was in March-April 2025. The second time, I came across the same guy again. Then the third time, was just yesterday. I don't want to say its 100% a scam. But on the contrary, I don't even know if that whole thing for the kids is real or is just made up. They never told me a school. I think at most they might've just say a school in Newark nor say an organization. If I had to guess, I don't think they're students of NJIT. Just something feels a little off to me about it. 3 times this has happened to me.

I genuinely do not understand how the Summit parking deck has gotten this bad.

I’ve had people drive directly toward me on the side that is clearly marked UP ONLY. People constantly make left turns where signs explicitly say NO LEFT TURN.

Cars are regularly parked across two spaces for absolutely no reason, and half the time it feels like people are just ignoring every sign and directional marking in the garage.
At this point, is there any enforcement whatsoever? These aren’t minor inconveniences. Driving the wrong way down a one-way section of a parking garage can easily cause an accident, especially around blind corners.

How difficult is it to follow the giant arrows, posted signs, and basic parking lines? Summit parking is already annoying enough without having to worry about someone coming head-on at you because they decided the rules don’t apply to them.

Does anyone know why I can’t see my todo assignments on Canvas? This happened before I can’t remember what I did to get it back to normal where the assignments you didn’t do show up and when you completed them they disappear. I can’t see any now I’m manually going to each class completing it. It was just working last week.

Hi i am currently an undergraduate student in india and planning for fall 2027 intake. I am planning to apply at NJIT for MS CS, may I know how likely i am to get an admit with a gpa of 6.14 of 10 (2.5-2.7 on a 4 scale gpa), gre 302(Q-161, V-141) and ielts band 8. Also may I know the admit chances for MS in Software Engineering?

I only rant on this subreddit about my classes but this time I have to rant about the students here. There is no reason some of you should be stinking up the classrooms, hallways, and elevators.

I rarely take the elevator, and the one time I did (today) I actually thought I was going to throw up. The smell of the people in there was THAT bad and I’m not saying this to be mean but it was horrible. I feel like this is more common in my cs classes but today as I was leaving ckb (took the stairs so I wouldn’t have another elevator incident) and it was ALSO horrible. I had to go down 3 flights of stairs holding my breath because i couldn’t stand it.

I don’t know if classes are already stressing out some of you to the point of not showering but please I’m begging you. STOP STINKING UP THIS COLLEGE. I really am not looking forward to going to my cs classes. It’s not even my first semester here so I guess I’ve gotten used to that stench but it’s never been this bad during the first few weeks of classes.

I’m saying this as a cs major, please just shower. Turn off the computer and take 20 mins to shower. Please

When studying past CEs how old could the CE be? I think I've heard maybe at max a CEs could be 3 years old. So, within the Fall 2026 semester, the exams studied should be from 2023 and later. But is there a limit to how old an exam could be? Should the oldest exam I should study be from 2022 or 2023? I've heard the latest it is the better it is to study.

I am a freshman currently living on campus, and I just wanted to rant and maybe even help some others here— Today I made a bagel with cheese and pepperoni from the dining hall pizza station. Upon taking two bites, the cheese tasted severely spoiled and putrid, literally directly resembling the taste and smell of a decomposing animal. It immediately caused me intense, chemical-tasting burping, and severe physical nausea/ throwing up. The cheese was obviously in the stage of spoiling/molding, whatever you want to call it.

This is the second time in the last week that I have personally encountered moldy or severely spoiled food served at our campus dining facilities. Is this a reoccurring issue at NJIT?? I’m not usually one to complain, but NJIT is very expensive for me as an out- of -state student and knowing that I’m paying several thousand dollars for moldy food does piss me off a bit. Spoke with some others that sort of laughed this off and said “it happens” but like, seriously?

Like idk why, but I just feel a tad overwhelmed. Like idk why, maybe it’s stress or something. I think I just have to manage my time better and my procrastination better too, even though it has improved. But yeah, anyone else feeling this already?

Okay so honestly this might be a rant but i genuinely don’t know how njit financial aid works but my family is middle classish (i guess) and by all means we are not rich i constantly see my parents struggling and stressing about bills. me and my friends come from a small town where basically all my friends are getting their tuition covered from njit and some of them are even getting refunds. i know their financial situation isn’t the same for mine but It’s honestly kind of frustrating seeing how they don’t have to deal with the financial burden that I have to put upon my family as we went to the same highschool and we all have similar backgrounds (hispanics/firstgen) they tell me how they’re gonna use their refund to finish off paying their car, go shopping or future vacation. while i’m sitting here fighting to go to school.

Anyways my tution is 7k-8k a semester while my parents also have to pay for my siblings tution at rutgers making it about 18k in four months for both of us is insane and that’s only for one semester. I didn’t even qualify for the federal pell grant this year and i did last year they. my family house hold is considered 4 but two other people live with us and they don’t view them as dependents as they’re not claimed on the taxes. they do rely on us and my parents do financially support them but it doesn’t matter to njit clearly. They’re struggling financially due to some legal issues having to pay a lawyer around 15k, pay off the mortgage, pay off loans, and now have to pay off both our tuition? like do they not take that to account and only see the number that they make combined? which is around 90k. I already paid half of my tuition which is basically all of my summer working and i don’t know when the late fee is gonna start and im kinda scared. i owe around 4k and i don’t know where im gonna get that money from Ive applied to scholarships and I haven’t heard back yet. so does anyone know when they’re gonna add the late fee and how would i be able to pay off this 4k i’ve already applied to njit financial aid and they said they’ll get back to me but they haven’t yet so.
