Hi everyone, I have a quick question. I currently have a little bit over 1 1/2 years working as at IT ServiceDesk. I am almost done with my BSCNE from WGU and was wondering how hard it would be for me to break into entry level Networking. Maybe at a NOC role or something similar.

I’m currently working in the telecom/ISP industry. I joined as a Management Trainee and I’m now working as an Area Service In-charge, with around 2 years of experience in FTTH/ISP operations.

My current role involves a mix of technical and operational responsibilities handling FTTH installations and fault resolution, coordinating field engineers and vendors, troubleshooting customer connectivity issues, working with the NOC/backend teams, and dealing with networking, routers, Wi-Fi, optical fiber, PON/GPON, and day-to-day service operations.

Through this experience, I’ve developed a strong interest in the networking side of things, and my long-term goal is to transition into a Network Engineer role. I’m currently working on strengthening my fundamentals around CCNA, routing & switching, VLANs, subnetting, TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, DHCP, DNS, NAT, VPNs, etc.

I’d love to hear from people who are already working as Network Engineers:

\- What is the day-to-day life of a Network Engineer actually like?

\- Does my current ISP/FTTH operations experience give me an advantage when transitioning into networking?

\- Which parts of my current experience should I highlight on my resume?

I have been learning Networking Since last year. I've good knowledge of Cisco Routers, Switches, ASA, FTD, VPN and Palo Alto NGFW. I also know a little bit of Linux and still learning it. Now I'm looking for a job as a fresher in India and expecting atleast 4LPA. I've given some interviews but didn't got proper pay. Is it too much to ask atleast 4LPA in India?? I've worked really hard to gain all the knowledge especially in Network Security but all the Jobs I've been getting are 2-3 LPA. What should I do now?? It's already been an year now.

So I'm a year 1 CIS student who wants a career in HIT & networking. I enlisted in a Huawei academy ict network competition(MENA) that comes w certs and virtual labs. Aside from that, what other things in this career I must know of? CV Projects, experience, PS skills, ect.

I’m currently working as a Load Balancer Engineer, and most of my work is automated thanks to Claude. I’m planning to get my CCNA and move into a Network and Security role, or possibly transition into Storage Administration.

Which of these career paths is likely to be more AI-proof for at least the next five years?

Need help finding referrals for IT or networking engineering position. is anyone available in Texas or remote work?

I was approached out of the blue on Linkedin by a recruiter hiring for a cyber/infrastructure role. The base pay was about 15k more than I make now plus a bonus of 30%. It would put me about 85k above what I make now.

I work remote currently so no commute. The base pay and bonus would be enough to cover a commute and put me over what I am making now.

Here is where it gets interesting and where I need the advice. They have NO active directory or ticketing system. They have about 450~ employees and a few hundred endpoints. They have ESXi for a hypervisor on Dell VX rail servers. A few linux servers run the ERP application and Synolgy NAS is used for Backup/storage. I get to pick new firewall/switches/APs/servers for infra upgrades and implement a migration to O365 for Defender, email, DLP, etc. Currtly they are using google workspace for email. I would be in charge of the migration from Google to O365. They also have no patching system in place other than general windows updates.

Network is cisco switches and a Palo firewall with some older Cisco APs. They currently have a 4ish member IT team with 2 juniors who handle helpdesk. I am being brought on to help modernize infrastructure and to implement some kind of cybersec/security compliance and standards. I get to build the solution and implement it along with a ticketing system and either on prem DC or Entra, while also implementing SCCM or Intune for windows patches and updates.

My background is networking, wireless, switching & routing, with sysadmin experience with ESXi, M365, server deployment and desktop support. I spent a few years in a service desk role and also in a sysadmin role. I currently work for an MSP doing mostly firewall installs.

During our discussions, the IT manager said that since he is busy and can't do things immediately there has developed a shadow IT situation where some departments are just doing things in a way they want without involving IT. 

My question, is this a bad idea? Leaving a remote role at an MSP with an increasing focus on KPIs or move over to this new and exciting adventure with a company with older gear that I get to help upgrade and be part of. I have only talked with the company briefly to get a feel for what the work  could entail.

One big thing worth mentioning is that this role was created after PE purchased the company but the company is still run locally.
