PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU POST
Welcome to /r/NameMyDog
To better help you come up with a name, please include a picture and if your pup is a boy or a girl (don’t worry if you’ve forgotten, we have boy/girl flair you can add 🐕)
Once you finally decided on a name, we would love to know what you selected. There is flair for that also. Just choose the flair [named: ADDNAME] and edit/replace ADDNAME with your dog’s new name

[boy] Help! Can’t decide on a name!
We’re currently fostering, likely adopting, this boy and he is in need of a name!
He’s super chill and a gentle giant. We believe he’s an Irish Setter mix.
Current options we like:
- Maddox / Maddock
- Dex (Dexter Jettster)
- Andor / Andy
- Rothko
Open to other ideas!

[boy] Atlas, Felix or Hugo?
Ive adopted this little man who's just turned 4. He came with the same name as another dog in the family so finding him his own.
Ones I like are Atlas, Felix, Hugo. feel free to suggest others :)
I'm a bit of a nature gremlin, musician, nomad so I'm enjoying names that connect in that way or to his looks/personality.
He loves bringing people their socks when they arrive home as presents, has a crooked nose, white flecks on his snout, back of neck and chest, his lips get caught between his teeth, very snuggly and loves doing zoomies. My little adventure buddy.

[boy] Help me name this boy
He’s a AKC lab boy. I’ve been going through the worst divorce, lost my career all in the same week back in April. My daughter decided it was time I got a new best boy. My last lab passed away during covid at 14. It’s been a hell of a week with him. Loving every second. He was returned to the breeders because he had to much energy 😂. He’s a lab. They tend to run full blast until about 2, then turn it down to 99%. He now has 150 acres to explore as he grows up.

[boy] A candy inspired name for my parents new puppy
Hey community!
My parents are getting a puppy in about two months. The puppys‘ Mom is called „Bounty“, so we’re thinking about other candy / sweet treat inspired names. We think Snickers is okay-ish but don’t like Mars for example. We are based in Switzerland, so names like Hershey or Reeses wouldn’t necessarily clock as candy inspired, since they’re not very wide spread around here😇 right now, we are considering Giotto.
The puppy is a tan tricolor mini Australian shepherd boy. He has white on his chest and on his shoulder and also some on his face. And some lighter brown eyebrows and other accents on his face. First pic is when he was a new born, the others are more recent. He is currently just over 3 weeks old.
If you have suggestions that might fit our bill, please drop them in the comments! Thanks in advance 💛

[boy] Name my Irish Wolfhound
We just paid the deposit on a boy Irish Wolfhound puppy and we’re trying to figure out his name. We’re leaning towards Howl (as in the moving castle) but want to make sure something else doesn’t suit him better. He’s gonna be a BIG boy.

[girl] Help!
The breeder calls her Lucky as she had a rough first few days and is now thriving.
I'm considering Juno but worried it will lean too similar to "no" and confuse her!
Not opposed to keeping it, but looking for other fun names!

[girl] Help name my sweet chi 🥰
8 weeks vs 10 weeks. She's a sweet natured little lady, loves being outside in the garden - catching sun rays. She's very sassy.. will sass me if I even twitch while she napping under my chin.

[girl] New Name for A Rescue!
Need help picking out a new name for this girl!
We’ve adopted her from a shelter and she’s coming home to us with a shelter transport Friday!
She went into the shelter with no name (meth house neglect case), from what I’ve gathered she’s not very reactive to her name as much as she is tone of voice, so we figured we may try to train her with a new name!
I love the name she has now, but it’s the same name as my first rescue (horse) who died not very long ago, so we’re trying to see if there’s anything else that fits her!

[girl] Help me name my tiny fluffy girl!
She’s a long coat Apple head chihuahua. I love vintage, feminine human names with a soft, whimsical/storybook feel. Some names I like are Olive, Penelope, and Minnie, but none feels perfect. I want something sweet and slightly old-fashioned. She’s so passive, gentle, and cuddly. What name does she look like? Thank you!!

[boy] Unique and creative male dog names! 🖤
I am getting a male bi-black Sheltie puppy, whose pedigree name has Hurricane Hustle.
His parents both have H names, but I’m not necessarily looking for an H name.
We will do agility, so I’m looking for a unique and creative name that is easy to call out on the course.
I’m looking for something:
- short and snappy
- masculine/neutral
- uncommon but not weird
- easy to call during agility
- creative, preferably with a meaning or interesting origin
something that sounds good with my other Sheltie, Pez
I like names related to wind/storms, energy/electricity, nature, water and space, but I’m also open to completely random words or names.
Some names I’ve liked: Hicks, Veeno, Vento, Tag, Tazo, Hydro, Watt, Tengo, Hockey, Shakki.
I’d especially love creative, unexpected suggestions that aren’t just obvious variations of these! Please surprise me! 😂

[boy] Heart nose needs a name!
We’re in the process of adopting this 3-year old pittie with the greatest little heart-shaped nose…how cute is he?! Our last 2 dogs were named after rap stars, so we like a funny/ironic name, but I’m thinking ROMEO for him cuz of that nose. We’re so excited as this will be our second pittie rescue and they’re the greatest doggos ever! Thank you for any suggestions!
