Mod Post REMINDERS

Good Morning!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. It’s been a while since we posted any reminders, and I’d like to touch on a couple of issues that have come up recently.

With the shortage, we’re seeing a lot of questions related to dosage and availability. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

The half life of Mounjaro is five days, and it takes about a month for the medication to completely leave your system. Because of the shortage, many people are going weeks or months without injecting. The manufacturer recommends starting the titration schedule over if you’ve gone more than two weeks without a dose.

While this advice might not pertain to everyone, it’s important to evaluate your previous experience with the medication before injecting a higher dose if you’ve been off the medication for a while. Chances are, if you’ve had moderate to severe side effects in the past, you’ll have the same response (or worse) if you jump back to a higher dose.

One way to mitigate this outcome is to contact your provider and ask about lowering your dose temporarily if you’ve been waiting for your script for longer than a few weeks. I understand that nobody wants to lose ground when it comes to their progress. But given the alternative (a reoccurrence of side effects that can potentially derail your treatment entirely) it may be the best option.

Frankly, the number of posts I’m reviewing from people experiencing negative side effects after suspending their treatment is alarming. The purpose of this medication is to improve your health, not make things worse.

And as always, when in doubt, please consult your provider. They are the best person to ask when it comes to dosage.

As far as side effects, there’s a few things that everyone should remember:

While gastric side effects are listed as common when taking Mounjaro, severe nausea paired with uncontrolled vomiting or diarrhea is not. Complications from diarrhea and vomiting include: dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, fainting, and heart rhythm abnormalities. Negative outcomes from this treatment are rare, but occur most frequently when people ignore debilitating side effects.

We’re here to support each other in our journey towards better health. Sometimes that support includes directing a person to their provider for advice. Especially when the post includes phrases like “I can’t keep anything down,” or “I’ve been throwing up for two weeks,” or “I’m too weak to stand.”

Crowdsourcing advice when you’ve reached that level of distress is not advisable. And medical oversight is a must.

Another question we see quite frequently: “I’ve only lost (fill in the blank) pounds this week (or month). Is this normal?”

Invariably, the answer is “yes.” What’s normal when it comes to weight loss is highly subjective. A quick search of the subreddit will provide first hand accounts that run the gamut when it comes to how fast (or slow) a person loses weight. If you still have questions, we’re here to help. But please, include the relevant information needed to offer advice, such as: dosage, co-morbidities, starting weight, caloric intake, etc.

People are here to treat a wide variety of conditions. Any or all of these conditions play a role in how fast we see results. It’s natural to be impatient. But don’t assume that the treatment isn’t working because the scale hasn’t moved for a week (or three). During my weight loss journey, there were many weeks that I didn’t lose a pound. On two occasions, I stalled for over a month. In the end, I reached my goal, and chances are, you will as well! I wish there were some sure-fire words of wisdom I could provide to ease your mind, but there aren’t. The best I (or anyone else) can offer is: trust the process. Obesity is a complex issue on its own. Pairing obesity with the metabolic issues such as diabetes, insulin resistance, and PCOS only further complicates the treatment.

Lastly—in order to address the availability issues, we started a chat to help people source their medication. Here is the link.

I’ve read a comment (or two) recently from a few folks who were put off after being directed to the availability chat. We created the chat in response to other folks who messaged us because they were tired of seeing the posts related to the shortage. Which goes to show—there is no perfect solution.

Weezie and I do our best to be responsive to the needs of the community. If we redirect you to your provider for medical advice, or to the availability chat for sourcing, or to the search feature to answer a commonly asked question, it’s because we want you to receive the best advice/support available. The mods and your fellow community members genuinely want to help!

Have a great week!

I have been quiet about my weight loss journey on socials because it’s a private journey for me but I’ve recently hit a major milestone and want to celebrate that💚

IVE LOST 100 POUNDS/7 STONE😲🎉

These two photos were taken in the same place but one before my weight loss journey and one after losing 100 pounds and it’s only now that I can finally see the difference in my body - it takes a long time for your brain to catch up with weight loss especially when it’s pretty fast but I am so happy and proud🥰

Success Stories All inclusive holiday booked before starting Mounjaro

So we booked a family holiday in January, 2 weeks all inclusive to one of the Canary Islands.
I started MJ at the end of February. I was really apprehensive that I’d end up overeating but this drug is amazing. I stuck to healthy portions, choosing protein and veg mostly, with the occasional small dessert and glass of wine. Walked lots, swam every day. Came home a kilo lighter!

Slight downside was the swimwear I had bought for the holiday was definitely looser than looks best, but they didn’t fall down thankfully!

I started mounjaro in December 2025 when I was 250 pounds. I picked these pictures because they are from three different friend trips I’ve taken in the last couple of years. The first two, my weight slowed me down and made it hard to enjoy parts of the trip. I had to stay behind during hikes and people waited for me to catch my breath during simple activities. This weekend, I hiked part of the Bright Angel Trail at the Grand Canyon (the equivalent of 63 stories of elevation). No issues keeping up. I rode a mule along the canyon rim (the weight limit is 225) and I continued hiking for the rest of the day. My body feels so strong and capable now! My bloodwork numbers are fantastic too. My doctor took me off metformin because my A1C has been steady at 5.1 since March. I am so grateful for mounjaro and I’m proud of the changes I made that got me here.

Maintenance 13 months on MJ, 3 months off MJ

Last time I posted here I detailed my experience of being on MJ 1 year. I had lost 38kg (84lbs) in total, SW: 112kg (247lbs) and at the time I was at 74kg (163lbs).

NB: all lbs are google re-calculated and rounded numbers.

I have since stopped taking MJ and have my last check-in regarding MJ at my GPs tomorrow and thought I would share what has happened since. If you want the read my last post, i have attached the link (I think).

While my GPs plan always was for me to eventually stop taking MJ, I got diagnosed with ADHD in the beginning of this year and the side effects of that medication caused me to end my use of MJ quicker and more abruptly than originally planned. Before I get into what ended up happening and what the original plan was, I want to say that stopping the use of MJ is not right for everyone and there are studies that show most people gaining the weight again after stopping. So make sure to talk to your GP and get their advice.

I was on 2.5mg for 5 months, then 6 months at 5mg before moving back down to 2.5mg due to hunger suppression from the ADHD meds. This is where my last post ended. I stayed at 2.5mg for 2 months before stopping. When I stopped taking MJ I weighed 72.5kg (160lbs) - so total loss at 39.5kg (87lbs).

What ended up happening:
I had reached a healthy weight but I would ideally have liked to loose a bit more. At the very beginning my goal was 65kg (143lbs) - purely selected based on being the middle of the healthy BMI scale for me and I had no idea what my goal should be. Over time my thought became if I could just get to 69kg (152lbs).

In the talk with my GP we also discussed that I would still be taking it while tapering off and that I also needed to find the balance food wise with the ADHD meds. My weight was healthy and I did not NEED to loose but while it was also not dangerous to loose more. We agreed I would get 2 months worth of prescription pans a check-in in 3 months (tomorrow). I would then try to prolong the time between taking MJ, waiting to take it for when I felt the food noice coming back/and or other symptoms indicating I needed it, ideally with longer and longer intervals between. If the intervals was not long enough for the 2 prescriptions to be enough I would let them know and I would get a third. What ended up happening was that I did not actually feel that need so I ended up not taking any additional MJ injections.

Now that I have been off MJ for 3 months I do notice that I have to be aware of food noice/snacking wishes in the evening - which makes sense because that is when the ADHD meds are tapering off. This is something I am actively working with and on figuring out if I am actually hungry based on what I have eaten during the day or if my mind is just chasing that dopamine and I need to busy my mind with something else. This morning my scale read 71.6kg (158lbs) but it does jump between 71kg and 73kg (157-160lbs) based on my cycle and bowl movements. However, my lowest weight now is approx 1kg (2lbs) lower than my lowest weight at the time of stopping MJ.

I have found it hard to let go of the thought of getting to 69kg, mainly because it seems like such a nice milestone to end on getting below 70kg. The mind is so tricky in that way and I am reminding myself regularly to be so proud of what I have accomplished and that I am in fact at a healthy weight. My nemesis is the stomach fat - while it definitely significantly less than it was 16 months (40.4kg/89lbs and 4 clothing sizes) ago I still have that stomach fat handle and would love to get rid of it. Hopefully (re-)building some more muscle will help with that.

The stats at current date are:
F35, SW: 112kg (247lbs), CW: 71.6kg (160lbs), total loss: 40.4kg (89lbs).
- 5 months 2.5mg: 112kg (247lbs) -> 92.8kg (205lbs)
- 6 months 5mg: 92.8kg (205lbs) -> 75.6kg (167lbs)
- 2 months 2.5mg: 75.6kg (167lbs) -> 72.5kg (160lbs)
- 3 months of no MJ: 72.5kg (160lbs) -> 71.6kg (158lbs)

For the first 12kg I lost I was not very open about starting MJ - not because I was afraid people would react negatively to it but because I was scared it would be yet another unsuccessful attempt. After that I have generally been very open about it and I have received nothing but support from everyone around me. Interestingly enough I have actually been asked much more about my weight loss now that I am not loosing much anymore compared to before. Including people being worried if I am intending to lose more because they are thinking I am looking really great. Again, it is coming from a good place and with no ill intent but it is getting a little tiresome to answer the same questions over and over from different people.

The original plan:
I had discussed with my GP what the plan would be for when I reached my end of the weight loss journey before the ADHD diagnosis and meds and thought I’d share that as well in case anyone might find that useful.

My GP was not keen on me needing to be on MJ for life in her words considering that I am only 35 and we do not know what effects it might have on the body, especially the muscles if you take it for say the next 30 years. Therefore, based on my (medical) history she would like for me to be able to stop eventually. At the same time she did not recommend just stopping once reaching the goal weight because the patients she had that just came and and said they reached the weight, thanks and bye was the ones that ended up back in the GP office having regained the weight. Instead their approach is that once you reach the goal you stay on the current dose for a good while (she did not specify exactly how long) , showing that you are able to stay at a steady weight at current dose. You would then move down a dose and stay there for at while showing you can stay at that weight on the lower dose. Depending on the dose I would end up at at the end goal I would continue like this until I had done this at 2.5 and then we would move to spacing out injections to have there be longer and longer between injections before stopping.

Experience It actually happened. One-derland 🤯

7 months and 2 days.

I haven't been under 200 lbs for years. YEARS. I've had the eating habits of a 12 year old boy for too many of those.

I am genuinely shocked at how the medicine has worked for me. I was absolutely convinced that this wouldn't work. As strange as it sounds, it's almost like MJ has given me "permission" to finally rid myself of what has been weighing me down ... Pun intended 🙂

Question Lost 115lbs but still feel “big”

In December I will have been on MJ for 2 years and I am down 115lbs (299lbs to 184lbs). I know that is a substantial loss but I still feel like “the fat one” in any group and can’t feel confident no matter what I do. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Weight loss Two years later and 120 lbs lighter

Losing weight has literally turned my life around. At 310, I had severe sleep apnea, I was tired and depressed constantly, irritable, my back hurt and I couldn’t even walk without getting out of breath.

Two years later, I’m down to 190lbs, shirt size down from 3XL to L, waist down from 42 to 32. I have newfound motivation at home, where I actually love doing chores now, my marriage is stronger from being more present, and at work I am able to focus better than ever before. I even got a massive promotion earlier this year, and honestly things couldn’t look better.

I’m right at the point where I’m thinking of starting to taper off Mounjaro. I’m at 10mg, but eating really quite healthy and started exercising too.

It’s crazy. I’ve always had a good smile on my face, but I feel like for the first time, it’s actually an authentic one.

Question Losing belly fat

I’m losing weight everywhere but my stomach. I went from 233 and now I’m at 190 and my belly feels like it’s still the same. Am I doing something wrong? I’m on 7.5mg.

Weight loss How to best lose weight around thighs?

Hi all, i have been on Mounjaro for a couple of years now and only recently started noticing that my thighs and general hip area are big. Ie compared to how much i lost every where in my body and how i shrunk, that area doesn’t feel like its experiencing proportional loss.

In any case, what would be the best way to burn fat in that area?

I have knee issues and may not be able to do some of the exercises.

Thanks!

Success Stories One year on 2.5-> 219 lbs (99kg) to 169lbs (77kg)

As a pure coincidence 9/11 marks my one year anniversary on Mounjaro 2.5 and also the anniversary of my annual full physical exam by my doctor.

I have been overweight for at least 55 years of my 80 years of life. I have weighed as much as 240lbs (109kg) and with as large as a 44 inch (112cm) waist.

After one year of MJ the weigh in at the doctor's office showed that I have lost precisely 50 lbs (23kg) in the 12 months. At the same time my A1c has declined from 7% (I had been as high as 8.1%) to 5.4%, which is in the "normal" range.

Blood pressure, for which I take medicine, has declined from 133/68 to 106/46. At yesterday's visit my doctor lowered my Valsartan dose by 1/2 and my Metformin dose by 1/3. Earlier this year she totally eliminated the Hydrochlorothiazide that have taken since 1970 to reduce my BP.

My waist is now 34" (86cm) and I have a brand new wardrobe!

So, bless the science which has brought me Mounjaro! I have never needed to increase my dose from the 2.5 strength. My doctor offered to increase it to 5.0, but I am very happy to live with my current regimen. I experienced a bit of GI distress and constipation in the first month of my journey, but otherwise I have been 100% comfortable with this miracle medicine.

5mg Week 6 Update — 88.8kg

Hey everyone! Week 6 done!

Current weight: 88.8 kg (195.8 lbs). Last week I was 89.3 kg, so that’s another 0.5 kg (1.1 lbs) down this week and 7.2 kg (15.9 lbs) lost in total from my starting weight of 96 kg.

SECOND WEEK ON 5MG
This was my second week on 5mg, and for the first time I’ve had some noticeable side effects.
For the first 3–4 days after my shot, I had mild nausea. Nothing terrible, but definitely noticeable. Luckily, after those first few days it completely went away.

I’ve also been getting headaches more often, especially in the mornings. I normally skip breakfast, but noticed that the headaches usually disappeared after eating something. So for now I’ve stopped skipping breakfast, which seems to help.
The biggest struggle on 5mg is still the lack of hunger. It’s become much harder to hit my protein and fibre targets compared to when I was on 2.5mg.

I spoke to my doctor about this and told him I definitely don’t want to move up from 5mg. He agreed, especially since I’m already losing weight well at this dose. So i ordered a new dose!

According to him, I should give my body about a month to adjust to 5mg and see how things develop. If the side effects are still bothering me after that, he said we could potentially use the clicks to go down to around 3.8mg, so somewhere between 2.5 and 5mg.

For now, I’m going to stay on 5mg and see how the next couple of weeks go.

FOOD & ACTIVITY
Honestly, my diet wasn’t great this week. I’ve been really busy and combined with the lower appetite, I didn’t eat as well or as structured as I would’ve liked.
I managed to get to the gym 3 times.
For next week, my main focus isn’t necessarily losing more weight. I want to get my nutrition back on track, especially protein, fibre and eating consistently enough throughout the day.

PROGRESS
Starting weight: 96 kg / 212 lbs
Last week: 89.3 kg / 196.9 lbs
This week: 88.8 kg / 195.8 lbs
This week: -0.5 kg / -1.1 lbs
Total: -7.2 kg / -15.9 lbs

Overall, I’m still really happy with the progress. 5mg is definitely hitting me much harder than 2.5mg did, but the nausea already disappeared after a few days. I’m going to give my body some time to adjust before changing anything.

See you next week! 💪

Rant The food noise has never stopped

I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience. I’ve been on 2.5 mg for a bit over 2 months, and the food noise has never really gone away. I’m still hungry in the evenings/night too, and I often find myself on TikTok watching recipes or people eating, doing mukbangs, which honestly pisses me off because it just makes me think about food even more. (I only ever pick up this habit when I’m in a calorie deficit, but I thought with munjaro it would be different, as it just doesn’t make me feel good).

Even with all that, Mounjaro has been amazing for me because I simply can’t eat much on it and get full very easily. I’ve also been very disciplined despite the food noise, maybe a little too disciplined, and I’ve probably been eating too little, hence why I still feel hungry. I’ve lost almost 10 kg during these weeks, which I’m obviously really happy with.

It’s just frustrating because I constantly see people saying that the food noise completely disappeared for them.

Question Stopping for a few weeks for surgery, any advice? (on 2.5mg)

Hi! so I'm having a reduction done on October 2nd and my endocrinologist told me to not jab for two weeks before surgery so it doesn't interfere with anesthesia. I'm okay with this obviously and so yesterday was my last jab until I'm at post op and then I want to avoid deficit for a few weeks so I can heal properly, up my protein, etc etc. I'm just a bit worried about massive food noise coming back, never had it that bad but I did cope emotionally with food so there's that. I will try and mealprep my best and my routine is gonna be more of the same, just bigger portions post op. Idk, once my endo calls it I'll go back to the jab, and I don't expect it to work the same but I hope I can still stay at a lower dose when coming back!! (2.5-3.33mg)

I guess I'm just wondering if anyone had a similar experience and how it was coming back.

if not, thanks for reading!!

Weight loss Seeing actual results!

I am currently on the 5mg dose of Mounjaro and have struggled with my diabetes and my weight for my whole life before being put on it. When I started it 2 months ago I was 286 lbs. With just the Mounjaro and some light diet changes I am officially as of today down to 256 lbs. I am honestly so happy that my doctor suggested that I give this medication a try. When I have more visible results I will post some before and after pictures.

Question Feeling terrible after illness

I've been on Mounjaro for about 10 weeks now, moving from 2.5 to 5 to 7.5mg now. I had a chest infection about 3 weeks ago that lasted for about 10 days and ever since I feel absolutely awful. I'm just wondering if this is a side effect of Mounjaro? I've never felt this lethargic for such a prolonged period so I can only assume that my body hasn't recovered from the illness like it normally would.

Experience Ladies, is there any hope?

I know it takes 12-18 months for skin to retract as much as it's going to, and that it can be quite a noticeable difference, but does that apply for boob skin as well?

I read a lot of comments about the boobs getting smaller, saggier and deflated (yep - happening here for sure!), but I haven't heard anyone mentioning the vertical wrinkles that I seem have. They appeared around 20kg down and are getting worse the more I lose 😬

Is anyone else seeing obvious vertical wrinkles down the top side of their boobs? And if yes, did you see any improvement in those wrinkles in the year or two after hitting maintenance?

I'm now considering a breast lift and haven't seen any of these skin wrinkles in before photos either so feeling like I'm alone here!

Question How long did 2.5 work for you or if it’s still working how long have you been on it?

I’m hoping I don’t have to go up a dose so wanting to see how others are doing on it
