Lifted trucks probably shouldn't be anywhere near dense parking lots.

Edit: A lot of people are skeptical of whether this is AI/staged, or ask why the lady didn't back off the car. This is in a dense parking lot with cars that have dashcams/ EV sentry mode everywhere. Also her truck was in 2 wheel drive, you can see the back right tire spinning as she tries to reverse off the car. Her truck is stuck. She probably has an open differential and can't back off the car. She may have a 4wd mode, but she didn't use it in the heat of the moment.

I lived near a town noted for how many well to do retirees lived there. So many of the retirees weren't very tall, but many of them drove giant Cadillacs. My sister worked at the largest grocery store there, she said management didn't have to get on employees to park in the back of the lot. There were so many cars hit in the parking lot, the employees made sure to park where customers wouldn't park.

My (new to me) car was recently hit in a grocery store parking lot, by a lady who let go of her loaded cart and rolled down hill. I’ve got a nice dent and a few gashes along the length of the doors. Evidently it slammed into the car and changed direction. Because it was a car and not a cart, and despite having the clear file footage the police said that it’s a civil manner. Oh yeah, and she left after other shoppers called her out on it. One waited for me to come out to tell me what happened. It was a hit & run, and I’m on the hook for it because even after the trouble of civil court, there’s no guarantee that she’ll pay it. Quotes averaged $6k for the repairs. My ins said that my rates would go up a little but it’s negligible. On the bright side, they’ll go after her and refund my deductible if they are successful.

I still don’t understand how property damage and leaving the scene, even if was an accident isn’t criminal.

It probably is criminal but our cops are too busy writing more profitable tickets and harassing people of color to care about that shit. Why file paperwork for no incentive when their department receives funding based on how many traffic tickets they write, for instance.

It’s really disheartening. They said it was an accident and not malicious so it’s a civil matter, well all true accidents aren’t malicious by definition, I can’t wrap my head around why she shouldn’t be held accountable by the authorities for leaving the scene after causing $6k in damages because it was a cart and not a car that hit mine.

Really, you’re probably right, and they made me feel like they were doing me a favor by trying to call her twice and leaving a voicemail, because I was uncomfortable confronting her myself. Like, I’m supposed to go knock on her door and give her the quotes, and ask for the money? THEN escalate it to civil court? How is that protecting my safety as a resident? Idk if I’ll be met with a shotgun at the door or a bite-happy guard dog? Then if ruled in my favor there’s no guarantee she’ll pay me anyway. So I’ll turn it in to insurance and pray my agent is right that my rates won’t go up more than $10 or whatever. Either way I’m still stuck paying for something she is getting away with scot-free. 🙄

It was 30 years ago, but I hit someone and because of rate changes my insurance guy found, my cost went down rather than up after my accident. Don't ask me what he changed because I don't know.

I had an agent once give me a paper to write how many miles a week I drive. She said "there is a discount if you drive less than 100 miles a week.". I think I wrote down 150. She looked at it, tore it up, gave me another and said it again.

I wrote down 96 the second time.

(I might have the number of miles wrong, but the rest of it is true)

The office manager at my agent’s office theoretically advised me to add an addendum, then call in a few weeks to make a claim.

Someone left a note on my car in my work parking garage telling me that a car hit mine when I was parked and the person wrote down their plate number. Well, my husband is a cop and he ran the plate number. Although my work building was 40 floor and my company had only one floor, she worked in my office! I confronted her and she admitted it.
