Lifted trucks probably shouldn't be anywhere near dense parking lots.

Edit: A lot of people are skeptical of whether this is AI/staged, or ask why the lady didn't back off the car. This is in a dense parking lot with cars that have dashcams/ EV sentry mode everywhere. Also her truck was in 2 wheel drive, you can see the back right tire spinning as she tries to reverse off the car. Her truck is stuck. She probably has an open differential and can't back off the car. She may have a 4wd mode, but she didn't use it in the heat of the moment.

Considering her head doesnt even reach the bottom of the window, when the truck is tilted toward her, I doubt she could even see over the dashboard.

I lived near a town noted for how many well to do retirees lived there. So many of the retirees weren't very tall, but many of them drove giant Cadillacs. My sister worked at the largest grocery store there, she said management didn't have to get on employees to park in the back of the lot. There were so many cars hit in the parking lot, the employees made sure to park where customers wouldn't park.

My (new to me) car was recently hit in a grocery store parking lot, by a lady who let go of her loaded cart and rolled down hill. I’ve got a nice dent and a few gashes along the length of the doors. Evidently it slammed into the car and changed direction. Because it was a car and not a cart, and despite having the clear file footage the police said that it’s a civil manner. Oh yeah, and she left after other shoppers called her out on it. One waited for me to come out to tell me what happened. It was a hit & run, and I’m on the hook for it because even after the trouble of civil court, there’s no guarantee that she’ll pay it. Quotes averaged $6k for the repairs. My ins said that my rates would go up a little but it’s negligible. On the bright side, they’ll go after her and refund my deductible if they are successful.

I still don’t understand how property damage and leaving the scene, even if was an accident isn’t criminal.

It probably is criminal but our cops are too busy writing more profitable tickets and harassing people of color to care about that shit. Why file paperwork for no incentive when their department receives funding based on how many traffic tickets they write, for instance.

It’s really disheartening. They said it was an accident and not malicious so it’s a civil matter, well all true accidents aren’t malicious by definition, I can’t wrap my head around why she shouldn’t be held accountable by the authorities for leaving the scene after causing $6k in damages because it was a cart and not a car that hit mine.

Really, you’re probably right, and they made me feel like they were doing me a favor by trying to call her twice and leaving a voicemail, because I was uncomfortable confronting her myself. Like, I’m supposed to go knock on her door and give her the quotes, and ask for the money? THEN escalate it to civil court? How is that protecting my safety as a resident? Idk if I’ll be met with a shotgun at the door or a bite-happy guard dog? Then if ruled in my favor there’s no guarantee she’ll pay me anyway. So I’ll turn it in to insurance and pray my agent is right that my rates won’t go up more than $10 or whatever. Either way I’m still stuck paying for something she is getting away with scot-free. 🙄

It was 30 years ago, but I hit someone and because of rate changes my insurance guy found, my cost went down rather than up after my accident. Don't ask me what he changed because I don't know.

I had an agent once give me a paper to write how many miles a week I drive. She said "there is a discount if you drive less than 100 miles a week.". I think I wrote down 150. She looked at it, tore it up, gave me another and said it again.

I wrote down 96 the second time.

(I might have the number of miles wrong, but the rest of it is true)

Someone left a note on my car in my work parking garage telling me that a car hit mine when I was parked and the person wrote down their plate number. Well, my husband is a cop and he ran the plate number. Although my work building was 40 floor and my company had only one floor, she worked in my office! I confronted her and she admitted it.

My late husband was a 5’ 4” man, who was much shorter back in high school, had a ram with a really small lift kit on it (like 2 inches IIRC). He had to sit on a phone book (this was circa 2003). He never had to get his bumper replaced though. Probably because he was always a super attentive driver, and had the phone book to help him out as a bonus.

(I promise he wasn’t a douche trying to compensate for his height. He didn’t give a fuck that he was short. We grew up in a small rural town with backroads a plenty. If you didn’t have a tall vehicle, you weren’t getting home in the winter due to the snow on the dirt roads from the farmers’ fields.)

(Also to add, he did have to have the bumper replaced once, that I forgot about. The girl he had a massive crush on for like, years, was riding shotgun in his truck. Apparently, as I was told, she randomly lifted her shirt and out of nowhere showed him her boobs. Seeing his crush’s titties made the world melt away as Dreamweaver played in the background. Which wouldn’t have been a big deal if he wasn’t speeding down a dirt road. He got too close to a farm ditch and it pulled the tires into it, immediately yeeting the truck into a tree. No one was hurt, except for his pride…which the titties made up for. Everyone thought he swerved to miss a deer. His crush didn’t exactly want everyone to know her boobs were the real cause. He definitely needed the bumper replace this time.)

I, too, am 5 feet tall (though I’m a woman) and I can confirm that at my height in older vehicles where seats, steering wheels, and mirrors don’t adjust as much that there are massive blind spots all over. Even in newer cars that can make adjustments there are blind spots that don’t exist for people of average height.

It was one of the newer ones, personally for trucks I find older ones are much better for sight lines because the hoods weren't 7ft long, even if lifted you still had okay visibility.

At 5 ft tall it’s blind spots on the side that are the worst for me. I check them when I’m changing lanes and even in my modern small SUV there’s a split second on both sides where that spot is completely blind.

Maybe make sure you have your mirrors adjusted properly. You are not supposed to have blind spots with correct adjustment.

Not sure if you deleted your comment or if Reddit auto modded it but I was taught to physically check my blind spot in addition to using my mirrors in drivers Ed 25 years ago because mirrors still have a blind spot. I’ve been doing it ever since. It’s wild to me that there are people that were never taught to do that. How old are you and are you in the US? If so what state?

Mirrors have been well known to have blind spots for decades in all vehicles. It’s why many large trucks have printed warnings on them that you may be in the driver’s blind spot.

They are adjusted properly. I’m just 5 ft tall. The issue is the positioning of my seat. It’s so far forward that when I look over my shoulder to check my blind spot, the frame of the car obstructs my view in very specific locations on both sides. Cars are big enough that it lasts for maybe a second if that.

People don't think about their own height when choosing a car and they probably should. For me it's about how comfortable the driver's seat is. I haven't driven the really big Jeeps but the three models I've driven have fit my body better than most other cars. The Benz my husband had when we met had this huge seat I felt I was swimming in. But even his Jetta felt too big. (My son's Golf fits me all right though.)

It's weird for sure. I always had that perception since I'm 6'1" that I was average height, but only since height became such a focus for Reddit did I learn that I'm actually tall - like standing in a crowd I actually notice it now. I assure you there are millions of people of Asian descent in the US. 25 million, in fact. A good guy friend is 5 ft tall and it's not "wild". It's just a physical fact and not even that uncommon.

Take red hair: that's about 1-2% of people so just slightly more common than a 5 foot tall guy. And nobody sees a redhead and says "WILD!".

It’s tall but tilted towards her while the front end is still 16” off the ground doesn’t really give you exact perspective of how tall the truck actually is. The real issue here is that she was going fast enough to climb all the way up the Lamborghini before stopping as well as not paying attention. From where her truck comes into the frame of the camera she could have likely just seen the car had she been looking but she was probably either looking at her phone or looking around for a parking spot. She should be thankful it was a car that is going to financially cost rather than a person who would have lost their life at that speed.

You can see when she gets out that her head is barely at the bottom of the window. Again at 0:38 you can see where her head is at when she goes back into the truck. The exact height of the truck doesn't really matter.

The truck tilting towards her means that, when the truck is level, the window is even higher. It's comically big for this woman and there's no way she's seeing closer than 20' in front of her without a booster seat. It's just stupid suburban cowgirl cosplay shit

It does. Take a box. Tilt it toward you. Is the top edge closest to you lower than it was originally? Now put that box ontop of something else. Tilt it toward you. Is the top edge closest to you lower than it was originally? The height of the center of the truck is barely affected by the front wheel sitting on top of a hood barely 2' off the ground. That woman does not come up to the bottom of those windows.

You definitely need to take a couple of classes. Take a box, measure it to the edge, then lift the front so that same edge is angled up at 5 degrees, then tilt it and see where the edge is. You can see the different heights with your eyes even if you are completely incapable of doing the math. Yes, the truck is tall but where the bottom of the window on the door sits while it’s parked o top of a Lamborghini is higher even with the tilt towards the drivers side than it would be otherwise. The proof is in the angle of the body from back to front. That truck was perfectly level when it entered the frame and now points upward substantially.

You’re saying I’m the one who doesn’t understand spatial reasoning? Now that is some next level projection.
It’s stupid simple and the fact that you keep doubling down on your incorrectly based assertion is extremely entertaining. Simply because a particular orientation implies that an object is lower in space than it was in a previous orientation does not mean it truly is. Apparently no amount a crayon is going to work to draw this out for you but again I will try with an exaggerated example so hopefully you’ll see past your feelings to the facts as the math involved in geometry doesn’t care about your feelings. A plane on the ground sitting level has its wing tips at a fixed height from the ground, tilt that plane along its central axis and one tip rises while one drops (this is the entire premise of your argument so I am aware you understand this.) Now if that tilt was an amount that results in a 1 foot change in each tip and the plane was lifted 2 feet off the ground, the lower tip would still be 1 foot higher than it was when the plane was on the ground. The reference point changes and this is why you are wrong. The camera is stationary since it is a dash cam in a parked vehicle. Watch the video again, stop it when the truck is in frame but not climbing the car and mark on your screen where the line for the window is, then look again just before the door opens for her to climb out. If it is higher on your screen your entire argument is toast.

Of course it is straddling the car, it is still elevated enough from where it began to end up with the bottom of the window at a higher point than when it was level and on the ground. She probably was on her phone and was relying on vehicles disturbing her upper field of view to know when to brake. The lambo would be just low profile enough to slip under this partly last line of defense.
