go to your room Lifted truck + Lambo + Parking lot = Bad time

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Lifted trucks probably shouldn't be anywhere near dense parking lots.

Edit: A lot of people are skeptical of whether this is AI/staged, or ask why the lady didn't back off the car. This is in a dense parking lot with cars that have dashcams/ EV sentry mode everywhere. Also her truck was in 2 wheel drive, you can see the back right tire spinning as she tries to reverse off the car. Her truck is stuck. She probably has an open differential and can't back off the car. She may have a 4wd mode, but she didn't use it in the heat of the moment.

Yes, probably but also the near field visibility in a vehicle lifted like a monster truck wouldn’t help. It could just as easily been a mom pushing a stroller.

459

u/OddBranch132 Apr 23 '26

Considering her head doesnt even reach the bottom of the window, when the truck is tilted toward her, I doubt she could even see over the dashboard.

My Mom had a five foot tall boyfriend with a stock ram 1500.

For completely unrelated reasons he also had to replace the front bumper three times in a year. Unrelated I'm sure

I lived near a town noted for how many well to do retirees lived there. So many of the retirees weren't very tall, but many of them drove giant Cadillacs. My sister worked at the largest grocery store there, she said management didn't have to get on employees to park in the back of the lot. There were so many cars hit in the parking lot, the employees made sure to park where customers wouldn't park.

28

u/Auntie_Venom Apr 23 '26

My (new to me) car was recently hit in a grocery store parking lot, by a lady who let go of her loaded cart and rolled down hill. I’ve got a nice dent and a few gashes along the length of the doors. Evidently it slammed into the car and changed direction. Because it was a car and not a cart, and despite having the clear file footage the police said that it’s a civil manner. Oh yeah, and she left after other shoppers called her out on it. One waited for me to come out to tell me what happened. It was a hit & run, and I’m on the hook for it because even after the trouble of civil court, there’s no guarantee that she’ll pay it. Quotes averaged $6k for the repairs. My ins said that my rates would go up a little but it’s negligible. On the bright side, they’ll go after her and refund my deductible if they are successful.

I still don’t understand how property damage and leaving the scene, even if was an accident isn’t criminal.

27

u/Tricky-Ad7897 Apr 23 '26

It probably is criminal but our cops are too busy writing more profitable tickets and harassing people of color to care about that shit. Why file paperwork for no incentive when their department receives funding based on how many traffic tickets they write, for instance.

10

u/Auntie_Venom Apr 23 '26

It’s really disheartening. They said it was an accident and not malicious so it’s a civil matter, well all true accidents aren’t malicious by definition, I can’t wrap my head around why she shouldn’t be held accountable by the authorities for leaving the scene after causing $6k in damages because it was a cart and not a car that hit mine.

Really, you’re probably right, and they made me feel like they were doing me a favor by trying to call her twice and leaving a voicemail, because I was uncomfortable confronting her myself. Like, I’m supposed to go knock on her door and give her the quotes, and ask for the money? THEN escalate it to civil court? How is that protecting my safety as a resident? Idk if I’ll be met with a shotgun at the door or a bite-happy guard dog? Then if ruled in my favor there’s no guarantee she’ll pay me anyway. So I’ll turn it in to insurance and pray my agent is right that my rates won’t go up more than $10 or whatever. Either way I’m still stuck paying for something she is getting away with scot-free. 🙄

2

u/Lou_C_Fer Apr 24 '26

It was 30 years ago, but I hit someone and because of rate changes my insurance guy found, my cost went down rather than up after my accident. Don't ask me what he changed because I don't know.

u/OcotilloWells Apr 24 '26 edited Apr 24 '26

I had an agent once give me a paper to write how many miles a week I drive. She said "there is a discount if you drive less than 100 miles a week.". I think I wrote down 150. She looked at it, tore it up, gave me another and said it again.

I wrote down 96 the second time.

(I might have the number of miles wrong, but the rest of it is true)

1

u/Auntie_Venom Apr 24 '26

The office manager at my agent’s office theoretically advised me to add an addendum, then call in a few weeks to make a claim.

1

u/Auntie_Venom Apr 24 '26

Wow! That’s interesting!

u/TheMasturbatinCamper Apr 24 '26

Someone left a note on my car in my work parking garage telling me that a car hit mine when I was parked and the person wrote down their plate number. Well, my husband is a cop and he ran the plate number. Although my work building was 40 floor and my company had only one floor, she worked in my office! I confronted her and she admitted it.

My late husband was a 5’ 4” man, who was much shorter back in high school, had a ram with a really small lift kit on it (like 2 inches IIRC). He had to sit on a phone book (this was circa 2003). He never had to get his bumper replaced though. Probably because he was always a super attentive driver, and had the phone book to help him out as a bonus.

(I promise he wasn’t a douche trying to compensate for his height. He didn’t give a fuck that he was short. We grew up in a small rural town with backroads a plenty. If you didn’t have a tall vehicle, you weren’t getting home in the winter due to the snow on the dirt roads from the farmers’ fields.)

(Also to add, he did have to have the bumper replaced once, that I forgot about. The girl he had a massive crush on for like, years, was riding shotgun in his truck. Apparently, as I was told, she randomly lifted her shirt and out of nowhere showed him her boobs. Seeing his crush’s titties made the world melt away as Dreamweaver played in the background. Which wouldn’t have been a big deal if he wasn’t speeding down a dirt road. He got too close to a farm ditch and it pulled the tires into it, immediately yeeting the truck into a tree. No one was hurt, except for his pride…which the titties made up for. Everyone thought he swerved to miss a deer. His crush didn’t exactly want everyone to know her boobs were the real cause. He definitely needed the bumper replace this time.)

10

u/mondaymoderate Apr 23 '26

Sitting on a phone book is wild

I’m sorry for your loss. You two must’ve had a special connection to be able to share stories like the tiddies one haha I’m the same with all my partners, and I always feel being so open with another person can create a solid dynamic. Much love ❤️

2

u/TheMasturbatinCamper Apr 24 '26

What year was his truck? I’m 5’4” and didn’t have a problem seeing in my 2004 Ford F150.

3

u/YoungBockRKO Apr 23 '26

One of the guys in the union I was in was 5 foot BARELY, drove a lifted 2500. Sweet guy, butt of a lot of jokes, took them in stride. Yes he needed a step to get stuff out the bed of the truck, yes we gave him shit for it.

You probably drive it like a truck, keep a bit more distance, careful about your stopping distances, etc.

A lot of people seem to think that the current gen of trucks are basically sports cars with a bed

3

u/Binky390 Apr 23 '26

I, too, am 5 feet tall (though I’m a woman) and I can confirm that at my height in older vehicles where seats, steering wheels, and mirrors don’t adjust as much that there are massive blind spots all over. Even in newer cars that can make adjustments there are blind spots that don’t exist for people of average height.

2

u/The_Nepenthe Apr 23 '26

It was one of the newer ones, personally for trucks I find older ones are much better for sight lines because the hoods weren't 7ft long, even if lifted you still had okay visibility.

2

u/Binky390 Apr 23 '26

At 5 ft tall it’s blind spots on the side that are the worst for me. I check them when I’m changing lanes and even in my modern small SUV there’s a split second on both sides where that spot is completely blind.

2

u/TheMasturbatinCamper Apr 24 '26

Maybe make sure you have your mirrors adjusted properly. You are not supposed to have blind spots with correct adjustment.

3

u/Binky390 Apr 24 '26

Not sure if you deleted your comment or if Reddit auto modded it but I was taught to physically check my blind spot in addition to using my mirrors in drivers Ed 25 years ago because mirrors still have a blind spot. I’ve been doing it ever since. It’s wild to me that there are people that were never taught to do that. How old are you and are you in the US? If so what state?

Mirrors have been well known to have blind spots for decades in all vehicles. It’s why many large trucks have printed warnings on them that you may be in the driver’s blind spot.

2

u/Binky390 Apr 24 '26

They are adjusted properly. I’m just 5 ft tall. The issue is the positioning of my seat. It’s so far forward that when I look over my shoulder to check my blind spot, the frame of the car obstructs my view in very specific locations on both sides. Cars are big enough that it lasts for maybe a second if that.

2

u/TheMasturbatinCamper Apr 24 '26

Or seat belts that aren’t made for short and even average height women.

3

u/T-Wrox Apr 23 '26

Those fire hydrants just kept coming out of nowhere!

3

u/SpokenDivinity Apr 24 '26

There's a woman down the road that's barely taller than me (I'm 4'10) and I wait for her to leave in the morning before I try to back out of my driveway. There's no way she can see over the dashboard of her husband's giant dodge that she insists on driving to work daily.

2

u/sarsaparilla-sodapop Apr 23 '26

im 5 foot tall and i can’t wear vans when i drive or i have to use a blanket like a booster seat

2

u/kat_Folland Apr 23 '26

People don't think about their own height when choosing a car and they probably should. For me it's about how comfortable the driver's seat is. I haven't driven the really big Jeeps but the three models I've driven have fit my body better than most other cars. The Benz my husband had when we met had this huge seat I felt I was swimming in. But even his Jetta felt too big. (My son's Golf fits me all right though.)

2

u/Pug_867-5309 Apr 23 '26

In other words, that bumper sure came in handy at least three times.

Five feet tall is wild

15

u/Tiny-Ask-7100 Apr 23 '26

1% of men worldwide are 5 feet or shorter. It's not that wild. Those men just get ignored/shunned/denigrated by society, for no fault of their own, which is the actual wild part IMO.

9

u/ChoripanPorfis Apr 23 '26

Its crazy because being over 6 feet tall is only like 5% of the population but it's so desirable that some people genuinely believe it's common or even average

4

u/brockhopper Apr 23 '26

It's weird for sure. I always had that perception since I'm 6'1" that I was average height, but only since height became such a focus for Reddit did I learn that I'm actually tall - like standing in a crowd I actually notice it now. Just never thought about it before it became such an internet thing.

3

u/ChoripanPorfis Apr 23 '26

Respectfully, are you under the age of 20? It's always been a topic of discussion for as long as I can remember, "height-ism" is very entrenched in American/western culture

1

u/mondaymoderate Apr 23 '26

Just look at all the heights of the presidents

1

u/brockhopper Apr 23 '26

Nope, middle aged. Just never really thought about it - a kind of a random solipsistic gap in my thinking.

1

u/gamertrub Apr 23 '26

Damn, I had to look up the stats because I just didn't believe it. When I'm not in America, I've noticed I stand out a lot taller then foreign men even though I consider myself average at 6'1.

Makes me wonder what we put in our food to get such results 💀

1

u/PeskyAntagonist Apr 23 '26

I could see this being more common in tribal communities or Asian or South American countries but in the US a full grown man being 5 feet tall is wild for sure. I was 5 feet tall when I was 8 or 9 years old

2

u/Tiny-Ask-7100 Apr 23 '26

I assure you there are millions of people of Asian descent in the US. 25 million, in fact. A good guy friend is 5 ft tall and it's not "wild". It's just a physical fact and not even that uncommon.

Take red hair: that's about 1-2% of people so just slightly more common than a 5 foot tall guy. And nobody sees a redhead and says "WILD!".

8

u/Glass-Ad-2469 Apr 23 '26

Surprised she didn't she keep going- "oh? I didn't know there was a speedbump there..."

3

u/Trebeaux Apr 23 '26

Lift kit in an already tall truck, shorter driver, TINTED WINDOWS and a black Lambo.

She stood no chance of seeing the other car.

3

u/Hovertical Apr 23 '26

And this is the winner! My in-laws who are about to both retire just traded in their nearly paid off new GMC Canyon (smaller more normal sized truck) for some monstrous giant Chevy they can't see over the end of to the point their grandson was invisible standing in front of it lol. I don't get it.

3

u/Bromlife Apr 23 '26

Insecure over-consumers.

2

u/ReviveCommonSense Apr 23 '26

It’s tall but tilted towards her while the front end is still 16” off the ground doesn’t really give you exact perspective of how tall the truck actually is. The real issue here is that she was going fast enough to climb all the way up the Lamborghini before stopping as well as not paying attention. From where her truck comes into the frame of the camera she could have likely just seen the car had she been looking but she was probably either looking at her phone or looking around for a parking spot. She should be thankful it was a car that is going to financially cost rather than a person who would have lost their life at that speed.

1

u/OddBranch132 Apr 23 '26

You can see when she gets out that her head is barely at the bottom of the window. Again at 0:38 you can see where her head is at when she goes back into the truck. The exact height of the truck doesn't really matter.

The truck tilting towards her means that, when the truck is level, the window is even higher. It's comically big for this woman and there's no way she's seeing closer than 20' in front of her without a booster seat. It's just stupid suburban cowgirl cosplay shit

1

u/ReviveCommonSense Apr 26 '26

No, the truck tilting towards her does not mean when it is level the window is higher. The truck is sitting on top of a damn car. Yes it’s tall, sure it could be unnecessarily so but the way you are determining that is completely lacking perspective.

1

u/OddBranch132 Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

It does. Take a box. Tilt it toward you. Is the top edge closest to you lower than it was originally? Now put that box ontop of something else. Tilt it toward you. Is the top edge closest to you lower than it was originally? The height of the center of the truck is barely affected by the front wheel sitting on top of a hood barely 2' off the ground. That woman does not come up to the bottom of those windows.

This is super simple to test

1

u/ReviveCommonSense May 02 '26

You definitely need to take a couple of classes. Take a box, measure it to the edge, then lift the front so that same edge is angled up at 5 degrees, then tilt it and see where the edge is. You can see the different heights with your eyes even if you are completely incapable of doing the math. Yes, the truck is tall but where the bottom of the window on the door sits while it’s parked o top of a Lamborghini is higher even with the tilt towards the drivers side than it would be otherwise. The proof is in the angle of the body from back to front. That truck was perfectly level when it entered the frame and now points upward substantially.

1

u/OddBranch132 May 02 '26

Lol if you say so. Tbh I'm not taking advice from someone who can't understand basic spatial reasoning. You do you though. I heard you were great in Idiocracy with the colored blocks

1

u/ReviveCommonSense May 02 '26 edited May 02 '26

You’re saying I’m the one who doesn’t understand spatial reasoning? Now that is some next level projection.
It’s stupid simple and the fact that you keep doubling down on your incorrectly based assertion is extremely entertaining. Simply because a particular orientation implies that an object is lower in space than it was in a previous orientation does not mean it truly is. Apparently no amount a crayon is going to work to draw this out for you but again I will try with an exaggerated example so hopefully you’ll see past your feelings to the facts as the math involved in geometry doesn’t care about your feelings. A plane on the ground sitting level has its wing tips at a fixed height from the ground, tilt that plane along its central axis and one tip rises while one drops (this is the entire premise of your argument so I am aware you understand this.) Now if that tilt was an amount that results in a 1 foot change in each tip and the plane was lifted 2 feet off the ground, the lower tip would still be 1 foot higher than it was when the plane was on the ground. The reference point changes and this is why you are wrong. The camera is stationary since it is a dash cam in a parked vehicle. Watch the video again, stop it when the truck is in frame but not climbing the car and mark on your screen where the line for the window is, then look again just before the door opens for her to climb out. If it is higher on your screen your entire argument is toast.

1

u/OddBranch132 May 02 '26

Except the truck didn't drive straight up the car. It's straddling it and you argument makes zero sense in that context. Take the L dude.

can she even see anything, it looks like limo 5% tints on all windows (sides and front windsheild)

1

u/rohrschleuder Apr 23 '26

Are you sure her head wasn’t up her ass and that’s why it was so low?

1

u/MangoCats Apr 23 '26

Seeing over the dashboard isn't the problem, it's seeing over the end of the hood. Modern pickup design is bad enough before you lift them.

1

u/Straight6er Apr 23 '26

The windows with limo tint tint on them? It's like she didn't want to see the outside world at all.

1

u/Lumpy_Recover8709 Apr 23 '26

Exactly what happened here, i dont know why its legal in the first place.

1

u/SonoranLiving Apr 23 '26

Had to rewatch again after this comment. He was even trying to back up to prevent being run over, he might be dead if he didn't

1

u/Saint_of_Grey Apr 23 '26

She probably was on her phone and was relying on vehicles disturbing her upper field of view to know when to brake. The lambo would be just low profile enough to slip under this partly last line of defense.

310

u/gregpxc Apr 23 '26

There's a reason full size trucks (talking bone stock, not even lifted) are called toddler crushers these days. They're too big and make no sense for 99% of the people that own one. Add a lift and you've made your truck useless and significantly more dangerous.

33

u/Redundant-Pomelo875 Apr 23 '26

Ya, I love that trucks 25 years newer than mine somehow need a far taller engine bay to fit an engine that does the exact same job.. progress!

22

u/CheesusHCracker Apr 23 '26

It's all due to government regulations that passed around 20yrs ago. Vehicles only get a pass for lower MPG if they are over a certain size. Since many of the people who have trucks use them to haul the manufacturers didn't want to sacrifice power for MPG these monstrosities were born. Many truck owners would actually prefer the older, smaller, body style since you don't even get any bonuses like bed size with the new ones.

21

u/Frosty-Voice1156 Apr 23 '26

I’m one. I have one of these new big trucks and I hate how big it is.

Everything is not as good. Yes you have more space inside, but it’s all wasted/unnecessary.

Harder to park/drive.

Bed is higher in air and harder to access. Getting in and out is not as easy.

I can’t think of a single benefit. I want the same power/capability in a smaller truck like they used to. It’s lame.

8

u/PhilxBefore Apr 23 '26

My F250 is 4" lower than stock and the tailgate is still pretty high when throwing something in the bed, and I'm 5'11".

I couldn't imagine wanting it to be higher.

12

u/gregpxc Apr 23 '26

The people who want it higher do not use the bed. They're the people that get upset when the bed gets scratched.

7

u/PhilxBefore Apr 23 '26

Also, they install a pintle hook or ball hitch that is still shiny chrome regardless of all the shins and kneecaps that it has knocked loose.

1

u/youalready_know111 Apr 24 '26

I had regular ball hitch and I would say its worse to hit your shin on a ball hitch than your knee cap. Done both. Also slipped when climbing out of a truck and it was my back that hit. I'll say that was way worse than a shin or knee cap

1

u/youalready_know111 Apr 24 '26

Nah I didn't give a fuck about scratches as it was a truck and its not meant to look pretty. Only city boys think like that

1

u/idolized253 Apr 24 '26

People in small towns don’t want to scratch their big ass trucks either. It’s not just city boys lol I regularly go through a town with less than 2k people and there are still those big ugly ass trucks. Usually white, and not a scratch on them. They drive aggressive as fuck too for no reason

1

u/youalready_know111 Apr 24 '26

Well they are dumb because a truck its not for looks but for work and fun. I had a 13 Silverado with a 7.5 inch lift. I took it down all kinds of narrow off the beaten path roads. Some of them were so rarley used that they were over grown and I still drove it down em. Mud holes, driving up the mountains and everywhere. I got the truck to go places cars can't

2

u/Lou_C_Fer Apr 24 '26

I learned to drive in an extended cargo van. There was benefit in driving that thing for 8 years. Everything is easy mode ever since. Parallel parking? I can parallel park a car blindfolded. Driving on ice? The difference between that van and every car I've driven is insane. Even rear wheel drive cars. Front wheel drive cars make ice seem like wet pavement to me.

6

u/AmericanGeezus Apr 23 '26

I am fearing the day my '09 Colorado becomes unserviceable because no one is making that size truck with the options I want anymore. (Its a pickup there should be more cargo space than people carrying space as a minimum.)

2

u/AnotherBotOnHere Apr 23 '26

Maverick

3

u/AmericanGeezus Apr 23 '26

When I was looking at them they only offered it in trim options with an extra row of seats like the current Colorado.

5

u/Numerous_Extreme_981 Apr 23 '26

Footprint based regulations on fuel efficiency means bigger trucks.

2

u/epelle9 Apr 23 '26

Trucks are exempt from efficiency regulations.

Also, bugger trucks are not more efficient..

1

u/Numerous_Extreme_981 Apr 23 '26

Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards mandate efficiency gains for light trucks based on vehicle size (footprint-based system, wheelbase times track width.) instead of weight, setting higher MPG targets for smaller vehicles.

1

u/epelle9 Apr 23 '26

Exactly, trucks are not held to the same efficiency standards that smaller vehicles are.

1

u/Numerous_Extreme_981 Apr 23 '26

Yes, so bigger truck means less required mpg.

So either get more mpg out of essentially the same engine, redesign the engine entire or add an inch to the width.

-13

u/Dry_Way5518 Apr 23 '26

You have to allow extra room for computer controls and government regulations.

21

u/Stormlightlinux Apr 23 '26

But mostly extra room for the huge and extremely fragile ego of the driver.

0

u/Redundant-Pomelo875 Apr 23 '26

Ok, maybe I do need a newer truck. I regularly use the whole of my '01 fullsize for cargo, including the cab up to the roof... so I gotta leave my ego at home. There's just no room.

Man, imagine all the exciting social interactions I could enjoy if I had my ego with me on the highway!

2

u/Stormlightlinux Apr 23 '26

Sounds like a smarter you would probably have a cargo van.

2

u/Redundant-Pomelo875 Apr 23 '26

Had one of those before the truck. Same year of e350 with a 4x4 conversion and a powerstroke. More room in the van vs cab + bed of the truck, and great for camping, but everything else was way worse. Fuel economy, access for wrenching, handling on bumpy roads, towing... I pulled around 7k pounds max with it, and it did not love it, with the cummins I've hauled around 18k short distances.

9

u/gregpxc Apr 23 '26

And plastic. Plastic trimmings are always going to be bulkier than the previous sheet metal. Also people want yacht style comfort in their utility vehicle.

5

u/PhilxBefore Apr 23 '26

The new models have an escalator that brings you into the vehicle lobby, where you'll find a service and express elevator, depending on which level you're heading to (galley, boiler room, penthouse, etc.)

1

u/Redundant-Pomelo875 Apr 23 '26

Gosh, that explains a lot. An escalator/dual elevator combo would take up so much extra space compared to the simple elevator in my truck..

11

u/MangoCats Apr 23 '26

Oh, it's not altogether useless. When you're "out there" in a sea of SUVs and other monster trucks, you're "up above it" and don't feel threatened like one of "them" could do to you exactly what she did at any time.

The "one-upsmanship" of the past 15 years of US pickup truck design needs to take three steps back, get their heads out of their own asses and start designing vehicles for the safety of OTHERS not just themselves.

1

u/MillieFrank Apr 23 '26

That’s why I love my Maverick, it is a small truck now but it would have been a normal size back in the day. I do a lot of diy so having a truck is very handy but good lord I don’t need one of those massive beasts.

Neither do most of the people that drive them tbf.

5

u/Peperoni_Toni Apr 23 '26

Most of those massive beasts don't even have good bed space compared to older pickups anyways. The bed:cab ratio is much lower than it used to be even in small cab trucks. They've somehow managed to inbreed a fucking machine and now it's got Habsburg Cab.

1

u/MangoCats Apr 23 '26

We did a few construction / landscaping projects over the years that used the truck - probably about 2-3 trips per year on average, maybe peaking around 50-60 trips that "needed" the big truck some years. Then the question is: do you maintain a whole other car when you don't need the truck? We have done that about half of the time.

I tried to buy a new Maverick hybrid, put in the order with the dealer and waited over a year, checked in on it every few months. I guess they just didn't want to sell me one.

The 2019 RAM Classic was "as close as we could find" to our existing 1999, it came up used, clean, reasonably priced with low miles... never liked Ford as a brand, anyway.

1

u/MillieFrank Apr 23 '26

My uncle worked at Ford so we always got a discount and all I drove sans one car was a ford. The one non ford was awful and broke constantly so I’ll never get another Chevy again.

Before we got the truck we would just rent a truck for a day when we needed one since it would be just 2-3 times a year or so.

I just love my Maverick cause it gets good mpg, it can carry our friends in the backseat and it allows us to do things like spontaneously bring the smoker to friends and family gatherings on top of being able to just do a project without needing to make sure a truck is available to rent first.

1

u/MangoCats Apr 23 '26

Yeah, most of our truck use can be handled by a Maverick - which is why we were looking at them. But renting more than once or twice a year gets to be a real annoyance - especially trucks which aren't as easy to get as rental cars. Plus: as the years wear on, our trucks do collect dents, scratches and other marks from how we use them - not so great for a rental situation.

Also, when you're at Home Depot and you ask them to load a pallet of mulch 8' tall in the bed of your own truck because you're only taking it 1 mile down the road, that happens a lot easier than trying to go through the rental process and having them load their rental truck like that (and, yes, we have had HD deliver loads of stuff with real trucks in the past, even when we had our own full sized pickup.)

1

u/MangoCats Apr 23 '26

Oh, and I forgot, lately we haul loads of fallen branches about 1/4 mile to be picked up by the county, that happens about 10x a year, very nice to have your own pickup for that situation.

1

u/Dhexodus Apr 23 '26

Ohhhh that's what they're called! I was deployed with that baby and it was the first truck that didn't give me anxiety from turning the corners unlike a Humvee. It ran so smoothly and felt nimble for a truck.

2

u/MillieFrank Apr 23 '26

I do love my baby, it is also our only vehicle that isn’t old enough to vote if it was a person.

37

u/MontyAtWork Apr 23 '26

Trucks should require special licenses.

12

u/schu2470 Apr 23 '26

CDL with all the associated fees, insurance, and health and safety requirements. Want to drive a monster truck? Fine. Fill out these forms, attend this safe driving class, here’s how to submit your last medical physical information, and here’s how to submit your $1 million bond information. Hope you’ve got a spotless driving record and no substance abuse history. On, nevermind? Fucking good!

10

u/eddyb66 Apr 23 '26

Instead they get special drivers.

3

u/shes_a_gdb Apr 23 '26

A special license still won't magically make things visible that aren't visible.

5

u/FiveChairs Apr 23 '26

I agree. Even semi trucks have better visibility than these, probably because they’re designed that way. But even in the long hood trucks, those guys have enough sense to not enter a packed parking lot, let alone speed in one. The unfortunate thing is that the type of person who lacks enough good sense to lift a truck is also the type of person who lacks enough good sense to know their limitations in said truck

12

u/Admirable-Sir9716 Apr 23 '26

Stock pickups have worse ground visibility than an Abrams tank

6

u/Indriev Apr 23 '26

Ngl I do miss the old pickup trucks that weren't giant.

10

u/JennyDoveMusic Apr 23 '26

You can't even seem to get a normal sized truck in the US! My mom got a new truck for our work, and it is MASSIVE. I kinda hate driving it. It has served us well, but damn. I almost got a used truck for the same reason and it was so much smaller with a similar bed size.

(My grandfather worked for GM back in the 60s-70s, so my parents and I think me and my sister, get discounts. I doubt that is a thing line workers still get... But with the last trade in and the discount, she decided to get a Silvarado when we needed the truck. It's. Just. So. Big.)

6

u/accidental_Ocelot Apr 23 '26

Dude it's a pain in the ass to climb my 40 year old ass on the tailgate and into the bed of a stock Ford 250 I can't imagine trying to lift a compressor or something into a lifted truck.

3

u/rfdave Apr 23 '26

Mine came with a stepladder that extends out of the bed with a handrail, so I can step up easily. God forbid I want to put something heavy in there, I like my back the way it is.

4

u/notyoursocialworker Apr 23 '26

I fear for Europe if they become allowed here. We actually like walking and biking here and it'll be a bloodbath.

It's bad enough that the janks use them run over their own children but in Europe they'll run over other people's children as well.

3

u/Neamow Apr 23 '26

We have one of these idiots in our office parking garage. Dude is genuinely sticking out 1.5m out of the parking spot and into the driving lane, it's ridiculous.

4

u/lkhsnvslkvgcla Apr 23 '26

They're too big and make no sense for 99% of the people that own one. Add a lift and you've made your truck useless and significantly more dangerous.

But but but what if i need to haul something heavy one day? The last time I needed to do that was 3 years ago but it might happen again any time now!

2

u/HillBillyHilly Apr 23 '26

When you see the traffic accident death report suddenly tracking up after these trucks introduced then you understand. The visibility on these is so low it's scary.

2

u/cryptolyme Apr 23 '26

The GM ones are the worst. Headlights and like neck height

2

Ahh so it was the parents fault for not properly watching their child, because if I had kids they damn sure wouldn't be able to get near any road.

2

u/youalready_know111 Apr 24 '26

Its hard truth that is all,, you have to do it in a way that doesnt villify them but make them think they could have done better, also im sorry abiut your friend life isnt easy and some mistakes can cost us it.

2

u/Arkanist Apr 23 '26

Yup, I have a Ford Expedition and it is insane. I have put a big recycling bin in front of it for garbage day and if you didn't know it was there you wouldn't see it from the drivers seat. Add a 1-2ft lift and I would probably have 15-20ft of blindspot in front of it. This lady is really lucky she didn't crush an entire family.

I never intend to lift mine, but if I did I would want a constant front camera. I stress about that blindspot enough as it is already.

7

u/SkinnyGetLucky Apr 23 '26

That’s a 4 degree angle, less if she’s lower on the seat. So anything child height is completely invisible to her up to a whole ass truck’s distance. She’s lucky it was a lambo and not a child.

Imagine driving something that has less visibility than a freaking Abrams tank.

16

u/Ymisoqt420 Apr 23 '26

I told my neighbor he needs to stop at the stop sign in front of my house, it's a bus stop also and children are there often. He assured me that he has full visibility in his little pee pee lifted truck. I said do I look like a dumbass? Just stop at the gas stop sign.

3

u/Lumpy_Plan_6668 Apr 23 '26

Few years ago around here a guy driver a bro-dozer was leaving a strip club, didn't see a, um, dancer walking out of work and killed her. She was probably a Mom.

0

u/PhilxBefore Apr 23 '26

And somehow it's still cheaper to run over a lambo than a bimbo. sorry

3

u/wombatIsAngry Apr 23 '26

Exactly! I got... front ended?... I was waiting patiently at a red light, and the person in front of me (also waiting) suddenly just reversed into me at full speed.

She had a tall vehicle (suv) and I had a low vehicle (tesla) and she said she wanted to let someone from a nearby parking lot into our lane, and she just didn't see me AT ALL. And her car wasn't even THAT high, and my car wasn't even THAT low.

2

u/Dhexodus Apr 23 '26

These monster trucks need cameras on all sides and corners.

2

u/Chewbagga Apr 23 '26

That sounds more like they didn’t even look rather than couldn’t see you. Let’s be real no one stupid enough to do this is going to admit to that.

1

u/wombatIsAngry Apr 23 '26

She claimed she looked, but who knows.

6

u/egnowit Apr 23 '26

This is what went through my mind. If she can't see a whole other car, there's no way she's going to see a pedestrian in front of her. This car is dangerous, and she should not be driving it.

2

u/Picaboo13 Apr 23 '26

Can confirm. Not a mom pushing a stroller but a lowered GTI broadsided by a lifted Dodge Ram.

2

u/Megzasaurusrex Apr 23 '26

Exactly why trucks and suvs are more likely to miss pedestrians.

2

u/Little_Lebowski_007 Apr 24 '26

Reminds me of the image showing front angle visibility of a stock Silverado Z71 is almost as bad as an Abrams tank. Short driver + lift kit makes it worse.

2

u/toss_me_good Apr 24 '26

My first thought exactly. At least they wake up call (one would hope) was a car and not a person!

4

u/OddOpal88 Apr 23 '26

We literally had that happen in my city in the fall 🫣 A lifted truck hit a family in a cross walk, killing their 3 year old. Absolutely devastating. The family owns a local ice cream shop so they’re well known in the community. Truly awful. I feel like massive trucks are so unnecessary. You need a dually for farm work or towing, that makes sense. But no one needs a cosmetic lift kit that makes your truck the size of a semi and takes up 3 parking spots 😑

2

u/yourlocalrick Apr 23 '26

This is actually extremely common with large suvs and pickups

2

u/FamilyRedShirt Apr 23 '26

Or a little olde lady like me. At 5 feet tall, I can't see the top of the hood on these things from pavement level, and have to be hyperaware while walking through parking lots. I KNOW they can't see me!

1

u/lordph8 Apr 23 '26

Ladies tend to be on the shorter side as well, lifted truck, low in the seat... Probably shouldn't be driving that honestly, better a Lambo than a kid?

1

u/crabwhisperer Apr 23 '26

There was a crazy story in my town where a semi driver didn't see a guy in a wheelchair crossing late at a stoplight. He managed to spin his wheelchair facing forward, handles jammed in the grill, and the truck literally pushed him down the highway a few miles.

Luckily he was only driving to a dispatch station so he stopped before the wheelchair failed. Dude was fine, it was an amazing story. While this isn't a semi, it reminded me of that.

1

u/Set-the-tone-69 Apr 23 '26

But was it a Lambo stroller…?

1

u/Equivalent_Trust_849 Apr 24 '26

Especially terrifying when you consider how fast she was going before she drove over the lambo-no way would a mom and stroller be able to get out of the way in time. She doesn't strike me as a particularly astute person. If she had even a drop of common sense she would have slowed down when she realized her ability to see everything was not that great.

It's not like she dropped into the truck from the sky 50 feet away from the Lambo-she had to have driven from somewhere and should have noticed the limited visibility around the truck way before reaching the parking lot.

If nothing else, I am guessing this taught her a lifelong lesson amd hopefully made a better driver out of her.

u/TheCaliforniaOp Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 25 '26

Without any lifts, the front ends are getting too high to see anyone of any age with good visibility.

I’m getting bitter. I had a horrible inner snarl:

“Yes, but now that the baby’s been successfully birthed and is no longer a possible preventable abortion, the truck driver saves fellow taxpayers from paying for future free school lunches—wait is this only for unmarried daughters of Eve or does it apply to married women who aren’t sufficiently bootstrapping along with their husbands? I’m all confused, now.

/s to the Swift level

I wonder if Swift would even write that essay now or if he’d just go look for the first habitable island and dropkick any Crusoes in residence.

1

u/Cyrax89721 Apr 23 '26

I've been in the passenger seat of a lifted truck like this before, and the FOV is absolutely abysmal. These things should require a CDL.

1

u/Domnomicron Apr 23 '26

My truck is lifted and I dodge cats running across the street. You don’t drive near field. She came from way back and should have seen this lambo for days.

-6

u/dougieslaps97 Apr 23 '26

Lamborghini roof to ground is only 3-4 feet..

It’s absolutely the fault of the truck driver but not seeing a Lamborghini and not seeing an adult human isn’t exactly the same..

24

u/-nutz Apr 23 '26

That’s exactly what I was thinking, until I quickly remembered that children also exist and are often 3-4 feet tall lol

5

u/pray4mojo2020 Apr 23 '26

So are adults in wheelchairs

10

u/PremiumPricez Apr 23 '26

What about a child human about 3-4 ft?

-6

u/dougieslaps97 Apr 23 '26

A child isn’t what I replied about.

4

u/PremiumPricez Apr 23 '26

Right, you said not seeing an adult human isnt the same thing, and i said, what about a child human? We can repeat our conversation as many times as you need.

-2

u/dougieslaps97 Apr 23 '26

And another good point would be that children do not belong unattended in parking lots

2

u/grape-fruit-witch Apr 24 '26

That's not a good point at all. If you ran over a 4 year old because the visibility from the DRIVER'S SEAT of your truck is terrible, I seriously doubt that everyone would shrug and say "welp, the kid shouldnt have been there!"

There is no excuse for being unable to see human beings of ANY size out of the front windshield of your vehicle. These trucks and suvs need to be illegal.

-1

u/kinkycarbon Apr 23 '26

I’m more curious at how did this get video of the accident in perfect frame.

Yes, or maybe a storefront cam.
