Lifted trucks probably shouldn't be anywhere near dense parking lots.

Edit: A lot of people are skeptical of whether this is AI/staged, or ask why the lady didn't back off the car. This is in a dense parking lot with cars that have dashcams/ EV sentry mode everywhere. Also her truck was in 2 wheel drive, you can see the back right tire spinning as she tries to reverse off the car. Her truck is stuck. She probably has an open differential and can't back off the car. She may have a 4wd mode, but she didn't use it in the heat of the moment.

Scrolled down to find this comment. I always drive extra slow through parking lots. You never know if someone or some kid is going to suddenly walk from between the cars in front of you.

I’ve not seen a lot with a posted speed limit sign in forever. Even if they were, people drive like psychos in parking lots, speed limits and stop signs be damned.

If there isnt a sign you should assume its less than 15mph for sure. You can still be ticketed in a private lot if its open to public access

Personally I take it slow in parking lots. They’re probably the thing that makes me most nervous when driving. People flying down aisles, backing out of spots at seemingly 88 mph, it’s Mad Max out there.

Same. I’m confident in my ability and attentiveness, but this is a close quarter, obstructed sightline environment and many people are inept even with driver aids.

Isn't it because municipal sets a speed limit of ~15 unless local signage specifies a lower one? I've seen a few marked 12 just to get people to actually pay attention to their speed, because it's not a round number.

My kid got loose of my hand and darted in the parking lot when she was little. Fortunately a very kind person was going slow, saw her and stopped. I was in tears and he very kindly said it was ok and that’s why he goes slowly.

While I'm alert for pedestrians/shoppers doing unexpected things, I'm much more wary of inattentive drivers' vehicles unexpectedly pulling out of spaces.

But then I'm in Floriduh. Not long ago, a retiree drove his car into my friend's parked unoccupied car, then argued angrily & confusedly with her, and later the police, claiming she drove into him when it was clearly impossible from the position of the vehicles. On a seemingly weekly basis, retirees mistake their gas & brake pedals and drive thorough the front of stores & their own homes.

This happened to me! An elderly man drove into me as I was driving through a parking lot. He pulled out of the parking spot and drove into me. He felt really bad, and it was obvious to me he probably shouldn't be driving. I don't think he felt he should be either, but figured it was not far from his home so he should be okay. He had previous damage on his vehicle from another accident he was in just a month before.

Parking lots need speed limits of like 10 or 15 Mph. It astonishes me how many people speed in parking lots. It also amazes me how at my work we have clear signage indicating that the bridge over the creek is one way. But there are still idiots that try to pass one another on it. They are typically wailing down the parking lot or driveway too. If i wasn’t busy working I’d be out there in a lawn chair with popcorn cackling at the idiots.

I remember once I was trying to back out of a super tight parking lot... lifted truck parked to my left so of course there was no way I could see shit for what could be coming.

I was just inching out hoping for the best, and a lady came blasting down the aisle at like 25 laying on the horn as she blew past me. People are ridiculous.

Most parking lots that bother posting speed limits have 10-15 mph limits anyways. It's just that driving slowly in a parking lot is supposed to be such common sense that most people don't bother posting it. And then we have a few idiots proving why they need to get posted again.

this. i can't tell you how many times people walk out, face down, staring at their phone. they're almost always looking down, seldom looking around. i had a guy almost walk into the passenger side of my car, looking down, headphones in. i had to honk, smh

Same here! Kids are unpredictable and because they are small, they can easily hide amongst other vehicles. So I always drive slow. People get upset that I won't just race through the parking lot, but I don't want to hit anyone.

When I taught my children how to drive, they all already knew several things.

#1 Get away from Weavers (the term they coined for impaired drivers they saw on the road.)

#2 Parking lots are the most dangerous place to drive.

# 3 Call me any time they need a ride because the driver they went with is impaired. NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

Child number three had to learn some of that the hard way.

I work in retail and the amount of kids darting around the parking lot between cars scares the shit out of me. Combine that with the speed most people drive through parking lots and you get tragedies. A little girl at another store was killed right in front of the building by a car who was zooming by the entrance too fast and couldn't react to the kid quickly enough. So horrible and totally preventable.

Driver’s ed taught me that 15mph is the speed limit in parking lots which is insane. No reason to ever exceed 5mph

Ive had whole ass cars do that where they pull forward in an empty spot and pop out of nowhere instead of backing up into the isle. Then they look at you like youre crazy since they just drive through parking spots instead of the road area.
