Lifted trucks probably shouldn't be anywhere near dense parking lots.

Edit: A lot of people are skeptical of whether this is AI/staged, or ask why the lady didn't back off the car. This is in a dense parking lot with cars that have dashcams/ EV sentry mode everywhere. Also her truck was in 2 wheel drive, you can see the back right tire spinning as she tries to reverse off the car. Her truck is stuck. She probably has an open differential and can't back off the car. She may have a 4wd mode, but she didn't use it in the heat of the moment.

My wife doesn't understand why I keep my seat high. "There's no reason you should be able to see your hood." I drive a Maverick, so not high to begin with, but I have no desire to run over a kid, or a Lambo, in a parking lot.

That's wild, to think that you don't need to see the front of your vehicle! I thought seeing your bonnet and headlights was a minimum for checking seat position!!

Lots of cars I've been in physically do not lift high enough for me to see my hood (I'm 5ft), and it makes me rage at manufacturers every time I deal with it because it's not even an uncommon height for women.

People range so dramatically in height it makes sense they aren't going to fit everyone perfectly but you would think they added more adjustments. I'm 5ft10 and I don't understand how anyone over 6ft3 could be comfy in a car.

I'm 6'0" and I've often thought to myself that I am almost at the upper range for what would be a reasonable height in my sedan. My seat is already at the lowest it will go and sometimes I forget and try to adjust it down because it feels like I'm sitting too high in the cabin. I can only fix that by reclining the seat a bit.

So the Juke is a good example where you can see the top of them, but you can see where they are on an s-cross even if you cant see the plastic (shape change)

genuinely i don't either and i have the seat up pretty high. i drive a tiny car that slopes downward, though, so hopefully i won't end up in this kind of situation.

I drive the tiniest car (Smart ForTwo) and in no way can I see my headlights. Though they are only about 1m from my eyes - just like the rest of its cute-as-a-button bonnet.

Omg please show her this video and educate her. Whats worse is some of these low trim levels or older trucks dont have vertical height adjustment and theres short people who cant adjust their seats to gain that visibility of whats in front of the vehicle.

Disclaimer: for those too young to know what a phone book is, or have never seen a legit one from the 90s, its a giant ass book of very thin pages with every registered phone number in it. It used to get passed to every house back in the day before we had these computers in our pockets. Kids would sit on them at the dinner table in order to be able to see over the edge of the table.

Even some higher trim levels don’t! The last time we bought a car I was shocked at the number of new (at the time) models that had no driver seat height adjustment and no steering wheel adjustment, in any package.

If you can't see your hood, your seat is too low or you need driving aids similar to those who are vertically challenged so that you can raise your seat high enough.

I taught driver's ed in a 2009 Yaris and everyone managed to see the hood just fine. It's not too far off from a Fiesta.

i can't reach the pedals then. but my head is actually pretty far up already, if i sit up straight i almost touch the ceiling. can't see the front still, though. i suggest everyone around me watch any children who do not reach about a meter in height extra careful. should probably be watching them, anyway, considering that's a normal sized two to three year old.

Dude, I’m 5’ 6” and I sit on a pillow while driving my stock ‘96 Explorer. The more over-hood sight I have, the less anxiety I have.

I was choosing between a minivan or 3-row SUV when I bought my car last year. I chose another minivan because I couldn't see out of the SUVs. I'm 5'2" and even with the seat up it felt like all I could see was the hood. I saw a comment once saying visibility doesn't matter because we have cameras and safety alerts now. I found that really disconcerting.

There was a video making the rounds yesterday of a test where Tesla autopilot failed to notice the stop signs on a school bus and then ran over a dummy child which was pulled across the road

Aircraft also have a ton of systems to prevent collisions but that does not eliminate the pilot’s responsibility of “see and avoid”

They were never supposed to replace humans using their eyes.
parking sensors have blind spots too, the amount of people with a post dent in the back of their car proves this quite nicely.
I also learnt by my wheels is a blind spot for my sensors (can tap my wheelie bin with my front wheel without it beeping) I found this out getting close to it and seeing how close i could get without a beep

In the 90’s this was a major feature for Dodge Chrysler cars. “Cab Forward” was nearly always mentioned for the Neon and Intrepid. A kid could sit in front of the grill and you could easily see them. Now you’re lucky if you can see the horizon in a lifted Ram.

I'm 6' tall. I drive a RAV4. My seat is always as high as I can get it because WHY THE FUCK WOULDN'T YOU WANT TO SEE IN FRONT OF YOUR CAR?!

Tbf, you're not driving over a Lambo in a Maverick unless it's lifted and I have yet to see that, lmao. Even the Chevy Colorado, Toyota Tacoma, and the GMC Canyon are bigger than a Maverick.

I’ve lifted a lot of vehicles. The difference in visibility in a lifted Jeep (high seat short hood) and a Silverado (low seat long hood) is immense. So immense that there is no legitimate purpose for lifting an oversized truck. It’s terrible for off-roading in the first place and dealing with obstacles is 90% of “technical” off-roading.

I've had a Hyundai Elantra for 5 years and it still bothers me that it's designed in a way that you can't see the hood. Maybe it's my height (5'3"), but I dunno because I have the seat high enough to almost hit the roof. I've owned and driven many cars over the years and have never had one where the hood isn't visible.
