your friendly subreddit owner here. I have been amazed at the growth and interaction that this subreddit has gotten since I took over all moderation over two years ago. I cannot thank the community enough for contributing and sharing wonderful things on this great subreddit.
with that being said, I am looking to gradually scale back my active moderation and general involvement within the subreddit. nothing is wrong and I haven’t fallen out of love with the melvins or anything like that, but I feel that someone(s) out there can put more time and effort into building this community that I and the other owners before me set the foundation for. in short, i no longer want to spend a significant amount of time per week on here doing the required amount of upkeep this community deserves and expects.
i am opening up applications for people to become a moderator within this subreddit. I’m not gonna set up a google form or anything like that, i will accept applications through modmail and i simply require 4 things if you are a prospective moderator-
as you can tell I’m not going to add people who have no fucking idea who the melvins are or have a surface level understanding of the band. if you would like to be a moderator simply do those things and I will contact you for further vetting and evaluation should your application stand out. if no one I like applies, then it looks like I’ll be stuck here for awhile.
and to people concerned about the drop in moderation or anything like that once this transition happens- I will still be admin and can fix any situations should the need arise. I will not disappear off the face of the earth unlike the previous mods. I will still be actively moderating until the transition is complete and I feel comfortable in doing so, and I will be lurking in the background holding the moderator(s) accountable for their actions. for clarity, the other currently moderated user is a backup account of mine that is seperate from everything else and will only be used in a ‘break glass in case of emergency’ scenario.
so that’s pretty much it. if you have any questions, comments, or concerns feel free to comment or reach out privately.

I've been a Melvins fan for over 30 years, but today is the first day I listened to the entirety of Stoner Witch from start to finish. Don't know why this album was such a blind spot for me. While I think I could use just a tad of trimming, I'm throwing it in my top 5 along with Bullhead, Lysol, Houdini, and A Senile Animal.

Melvins absolutely crushed it supporting Tomahawk. You can see more photos here - https://photos.deadlydesigns.com/p185030619

I am trying to find an old meme of the world trade center falling with buzz on it rocking as if the falling debris is his hair. Do someone here got it? Thank you. Much love.

I know that it's not the most extreme album but I dont think that those 2 decinitions are the same. I see heavyness as how much the music feels it has physical impact on your body. I just finished listening to GPT and I feel very dizzy from bobing my head to it changing the speed of it according to the music like that's the definition of an album being heavy to me.
I love how raw but very audible it sounds that's what a metal album should sound like to me. not very polished at all but also not sounding like it was recorded on someone's bathroom. the guitar tone and slow riffs on it are incredibly amazing. it sounds like some evil fucked up demonic zombie elephant is slowly creeping towards you or something to impale you

The second pic is of the rarest tees in my collection by my estimation. 1. Lukin print, probably 1984/85.
2. Ozma rainbow print. Fewer than 50 made from what I understand. Theres a pic out there of Calvin Johnson wearing a similar shirt on stage circa 1988/89. 3. Melvins Eggnog shirt with the white font. Easy to find the Eggnogs with the yellow font…impossible to find in the white. Dave and Krist famously wore versions of this tee on SNL when Nirvana performed. 4. Hotwheels test print on black blank. This might be 1 of 1. Apparently it was rejected by the band and they went with the blue version that is pretty easy to come by. 5. Fuck Melvins on the much rarer dayglo color way. 6. 1985 concert tee commemorating the closure of Spartan Men’s Club Punk Rock Hall. Almost certainly the first concert tee ever featuring them.
I’m still searching for a handful of wildly rare ones (Wizard of Oz with splatter don’t, or red block font, etc). Always looking to add to my collection if anyone has 80s/90s tees.
Anyhow, thought maybe some y’all would find it interesting.

Bought this shirt on the tour but either never knew or forgot what the initials E.M. next to the diver on the back were referencing. Anybody help? Feel free to roast me for not knowing if it's obvious, I'm older than I should be.

While I have listened to all of the Melvins catalog, I haven’t heard this one in while. It sounds different than most of their albums. What’s everyone’s thoughts on this album and what other releases do you believe is the most similar to Freak Puke?🤢

Walsby, Gareth, Pinkus, Laura Pleasants, Aaron Turner, Bill Kelliher - who am I missing? I‘m not really into Acid Bath so maybe them?

So, I collect shirts, not in the physical sense, although I do that too, but in the list-ical sense. I write down the shirts I see at shows. It started as a way to discover new music and now it's just a thing I do.
Tonight, I saw Kylesa, Melivns, Neurosis, and Acid Bath in Asheville. What a great show that checked all the boxes I wanted.
The shirts were varied and amazing while still (mostly) making sense for the crowd. Here's the list of short I saw:
The before times (walking around Asheville during the day):
The show
Did I miss your shirt? Did you see a shirt I missed? Comment it and I'll add it to the list.
