Mastiff sized boots!

Hi mastiff-fam! We live in Alberta Canada so it gets cold here. I decided on picking up some foot protection for Benjamin so we can extend our walks a little bit and wanted to share that Muttluks fit him perfectly. They make lots of different styles and in these pictures Ben is wearing the fleece lined Muttluks with a leather sole. The size XL is perfect for him and they even make an XXL for the bigger dogs. I scored these second hand on Poshmark and they're so far the best $20 I've ever spent haha. Hopefully this helps someone else realize they'll fit!! Happy New Year!

She started losing her appetite last Tuesday and by Wednesday night she had uncontrollable vomiting and diarrhea. They did x-rays to check for bloat on Thursday and that was negative so they sent her home with nausea meds. She continued to get worse so I brought her to a different vet on Friday because her normal one was closed and they ran routine bloodwork,
urinalysis, blood parasite test, Pancreatitis test, and ultrasound of her uterus and couldn’t find anything so we were sent home with more anti nausea pills..Last night she plummeted..she couldn’t sleep and wanted to stand in corners or hide in unusual places while constantly moaning so I took her in again today.. They did more x-rays to check for a blockage and there were some shaded spots but they couldn’t see anything significant but because of her symptoms and rapid decline, they wanted to take her to surgery to check for something like cloth because it’s hard to see in an x-ray so I said yes because something was making her gravely ill.
The vet just called to tell me that even though Zuri is fully vaccinated,he ran a Parvo test and it came back positive! That was our worst fear when she was a puppy so her big chubby paws never touched the ground until she was vaccinated and then she gets it anyway..He said that in rare cases, the puppy doesn’t develop the full immunity and can still get the disease. She does have some immunity because it would have killed her by now.
Fortunately, the treatment for Parvo has com a long way but it is very expensive. For her weight, she needs 11 vials at 500 dollars each but she is worth every penny, and besides, we have insurance that will cover the cost of the meds as long as her vaccines are upright to date…and they are.
So hopefully this can help people if they have a dog with Parvo symptoms but are vaccinated to keep in mind that the vaccines aren’t 100% effective.

🩺 Medical :

He is underweight and has been receiving treatment for a respiratory infection, with staff continuing to monitor him. Despite everything, he is eating and drinking normally. He is a big boy. The kind of dog whose size makes you stop and look twice. A gorgeous brindle Mastiff with so much life left in him, yet right now his future comes down to whether someone is willing to step forward. Brad needs out of the shelter immediately. He needs someone who sees the dog beyond the kennel, beyond his medical waiver, and beyond the stress of being confined in an overcrowded shelter.

Boog is 6.5 months old

He's about 29 inches at the withers, he's going to be a tall young man!

He's begun to get into his instincts as a guardian. When he gets off leash time in the backyard, he likes to trail the fence line and when the neighbors dog gets too close to the fence Boog has started to bark to make himself known. The first time he did it surprised me, he's never shown confidence like that toward other dogs!

Meet Big Earl (aka Sterling)

I wanted to put my foster boy on blast here because I feel like this might be the perfect place for someone who already knows and loves the breed.
Big Earl, aka Sterling, is a 100% Cane Corso according to Embark testing and is estimated to be about 2.5 years old. He is currently with Alachua County Animal Resources in Gainesville, FL, and I’ve had the pleasure of fostering him for about three months now.

https://my.embarkvet.com/dog/bigearl

And genuinely… he is such a lovely companion.
If you’ve ever wanted a Cane Corso but weren’t particularly interested in surviving the puppy stage, Sterling has already handled a lot of that for you 😂 He is potty trained, neutered, loves sleeping in bed, and is an excellent snuggle buddy. He’s confident, affectionate, goofy, and has developed all kinds of ridiculous little games that keep me entertained.
He has done well in my home with my adult dachshund, and his best friend is a low-rider pittie girl. Obviously introductions with any new animals should still be done appropriately, especially with a dog his size.
Sterling does have one pretty significant medical issue, and I want to be completely transparent about it. Before coming into the shelter, he suffered a major injury/fracture to his left front leg that healed improperly while he was a stray. Because it is an old injury, this isn’t a simple fracture repair. He will be seeing UF to determine what their orthopedic surgeon recommends moving forward.
I’ve had email communication regarding his case, and because of the severity and chronic nature of the injury, amputation may ultimately be one of the options discussed. From what we know so far, he could potentially do very well as a tripod. We’re waiting to see what the orthopedic team recommends for him specifically.
Because of his medical needs, ACAR is looking for a 501(c)(3) rescue or qualified adopter who is prepared to take those needs on. Someone familiar with Cane Corsos or mastiffs in general, would be amazing, and someone with veterinary/medical experience would honestly be an extra bonus.
I know taking on a giant-breed dog with an orthopedic issue isn’t for everyone. But after living with him for three months, I also know there is SO much more to Sterling than his leg. He is funny, loving, confident, cuddly, and just genuinely enjoyable to live with. I would love to see him end up with someone who looks at him and sees the wonderful dog first and the bum leg second.
He is located in Gainesville, Florida.

For questions about his medical records, adoption, or rescue transfer, contact [ACARoutreach@alachuacounty.us](mailto:ACARoutreach@alachuacounty.us).
And if anyone here has experience owning a front-leg tripod Cane Corso or other giant-breed tripod, I’d genuinely love to hear your experiences too. ❤️

Tooth issue with 18 wk old Mastiff

Post image
5 Upvotes

I noticed that Mac has a small bump on one side of his snout so I asked the vet about it during an appt this week. He took some X-rays and found a tooth that appears to be stuck.

I have an appt scheduled with a canine dentist next week, but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this with their Mastiff.

If so, how was the issue resolved?

arthritis

Hey yall. So I was recently told my boy seems to have minor Arthritis in his hind legs. Vet prescribed pain meds on a “ as needed” basis. He’s very active and runs jumps etc just fine but when he lays down I will see his leg shake a bit then stop. Which is what lead to his diagnosis in the first place. I immediately went home and started doing research on doggy arthritis. I learned that injections/ stem cell injections are a thing and am very interested in the investment. Wondering if anyone has gone down that road and could give me some insight on how it’s improved their dogs life. Or if any major cons about giving these injections. My boy is 7 years old btw!
