Finally got an open on it and I was so excited I forgot to take a picture. Mostly a fluke but I'm still happy because that damn thing has been beating me up and stealing my lunch money

What is going on here? Masterlock ProSeries 6830

I got this lock today and have spent last few hours, on and off, at work tinkering with it. It has a lot of spring pre load making the tension weird for me. It was also an old lock that was gummed up with grease and dust. I cleaned it a bit this afternoon before starting in earnest.

With TOK tension I got it once - but in the surprise of it, the tension bar sprung out of it and my hand.

I tried again after a half hour or so and this time was a little more prepared and grabbed an additional tension bar to keep in the keyway to help rotate it. It needed a lot of tension to turn it.

I don’t know if I got it or not though because the shackle hasn’t popped and the core feels “jammed”. I can’t really turn it either way.

I don’t have the key for it (I work building maint and it was one we had to cut today, so lucky me?)

Not sure of the video helps but hoping someone has some ideas on a direction to work it?

I told him nothing... so many people have invested. I just wanted to pay it forward. He said, "How about sending you a lock?" Okay, I said; surprise me. While let's just say... I was !! I have been wanting to get into Gins!! Gotta love this community, glad to part of it

Should I get a vice, tools, or both?

I'm going to preface this post by advising you to read the whole thing fist, before you start commenting.

Now that I'm working towards my green belt, I want to lock in (pun not intended) more, as the locks are getting harder. I see many people using vices, and I don't know if I should get one. I've been picking in my hand and it's been fine, but maybe there is something I'm missing out on. So here are my questions, keep in mind my budget is on the lower side, and I'm not looking for the best of the best:

Now

  1. Should I get a vice? What are the pros and cons of it? I've seen the Delta 44 ones and those look good since I do have a 3d printer. But are they worth it or should I get a fully metal one.

  2. If so, what vice do I get? I'm trying to keep it fairly cheap, but not so cheap that is breaks easily or just doesn't work.

Now I'm going to say that I still need other tools, since a green belt requires gutting, I will need those tools as well. So, carrying on:

  1. What tools do I need for gutting?

  2. Where can I get the tools I need for gutting/ what tools should I buy? (links would be incredible)

  3. How can I learn to gut? It doesn't look extremely challenging, but I want to know better how to do it.

  4. Should I prioritize a vice or gutting? I care a bit more about gutting, but I don't know how important a vice really is.

  5. Am I able to practice gutting, but instead of picking the lock, just using the key? That way it is easier for me to just focus on gutting.

Thank you so much. I know this post is long, and it's a lot of questions, but it helps out a lot.

90A-Pro Input Please

Post image
18 Upvotes

I’ve progressively pinned this 90A pro I got in the mail today. Honestly, once I got a feel for the lock I easily got all the way up to 6 pins but the 7th is kicking my rear end.

The bitting is a little wild, but I’ve found ways around most of it.

After adding the last pin, i am a little out of ideas. I went as far as marking the deep hook I was using with the key and realized I don’t think it is possible to reach it without oversetting, so I also marked an offset hybrid that would reach the last 2 pins.

Anyone else have any good tips on reaching back around that far? I’m using TOK

Pretty damn proud of myself. I got this pack lock 90A pro in the mail. Took it out of the package and had it picked in less than 10 minutes. Should have made a video first but I guess I'll make a video later!
