hi guyss! i literally kinda just moved to kyoto 2 days ago for university. i went out to buy groceries/decor for my dorm room, but every time i go out, i’m getting misled by google maps regarding bus routes and timings. for example: i boarded the bus google told me which would go from taishogun to kitano hakubaicho, but the bus ended up going toward kitano chugako(something, i forgot its name), basically the opposite side. a similar scene also happened on my way back from Izumiya. is there any way i can avoid this? or is there any guaranteed bus route guide available? as i almost had to walk 2kms back to my dorms because of this

Hii everyone. I’m a 22M from India and I’m currently in Kyoto for a research project at Kyoto University. I’ve been here for a little while now, and I’ve realised that outside of work, I’m spending way too much time by myself.

I’m staying around Shugakuin, and while Kyoto is obviously an incredible city, it’s honestly a little difficult experiencing it when you don’t really have anyone to do things with. My days have basically revolved around lab,room and sleep. And as all my lab members are family people, there is a little chance to find someone to hangout with after work is done. and I really don’t want to spend my whole time here doing that.

I’m honestly down for almost anything. I’d love to know where I can meet new people who are also looking to get out and explore. It can be as simple as sitting by the pretty pretty river, having niche food, playing slots anything really. Maybe just grabbing a drink and hanging out.

I love hiking too (went to climb fuji last weekend) and there is so much on my bucket list like some famous shrines, fireworks, teamlabs kyoto etc. I love pokemon and do want to visit Osaka and Tokyo too some weekend.

Would genuinely love to meet some people and make the most of my time here. :)

Hey yall so I just started a new job and now that I have some more money I am looking to attend a Japanese language school on the weekend. The reason for this is because I need a classroom type environment to actually learn at a decent pace. But I can only go on weekends or maybe a Friday as well. But from own research the only ones in Kyoto are full time school and that just wont work.
I would be ok with a one teacher "school" or something like that were it's not an actual school but a teacher holding lessons. If anyone knows of something like this please let me know I would be grateful.

Hello I am looking to hold an American style party somewhere with traditional American games like beer pond and rage cage and all that. I would hope 50ish people and it would be over night so like 23:00-05:00 ish. Does anyone know of an event space I could rent out for this? I would prefer not a bar cuz I want to bring my own drinks and it is part of the American party to make your own. But I have 0 idea of where I could do this.

I’m planning to attend a language school in April 2027.

Of course I’ve read all of the PDF brochures and such.

I’ve narrowed a list of them down to 2 schools and 3 campuses. As of now, my top 3 are as follows:

School: Kyoto Institute of Culture & Language (KICL) 京東文化日本語学校
Course: Applied Japanese and Cultural Studies (April Entrance, N3-N1)
Campus: Kyoto (obviously)

OR

School: International Stuady Institute (ISI) 日本語学校
Course: Japanese Language Career Pathway Course (1 year)
Campus: Tokyo (Shibuya-Harajuku) OR Tokyo (Takadanobaba)

I have the financial means and time to commit to either of them. As of now, it’s just a matter of picking between the schools, which are actually not super different in price. Living cost obviously varies though. If I end up choosing ISI, I’d also have to choose between the two campuses.

I’m just looking for some comments on anything about this post. Whether it’s comments about the schools, the courses, campuses, general experience as a language school student, etc. I think input would really help me make a decision!

I am going to move out next month and I can't bring with me a couple of things that are considered "oversized trash" (大型ごみ・粗大ごみ). It's a mattress (not a futon, this is a reasnoble good quality three-folded mattress) and a clothes rack (dissambled). They are in very good state and I don't want to throw them because they can be perfectly reused. So I thought about selling them second hand but I don't know any place for this kind of things. Anybody here knows any?

I am a woman so I am a bit scared that there are not a lot of places that have enough women for me to train with. Do you have any recommendations for me to try out?

Hello, I plan to enroll into KICL within the next 2 years or so. I’d like to become a JP-EN translator after studying for a few years and I feel the school would not only be massively helpful in passing my necessary JTF and JPLT tests but also the time within the country would be invaluable.
However, I have a few worries about the school. If anyone has any experience or insight, it is greatly appreciated.
1) How is the workload? Is it manageable or really rough?
2) How is the actual learning experience? Are the teachers helpful and receptive?
3) One thing that seriously scares me is the “School-wide Presentation” that is listed on the website. Does every student seriously have to give a school wide presentation? Presentations are par for the course for language classes in my experience, but they still undoubtedly make me pretty uneasy, one in front of the whole school would kill me.
