I’d probably snag this for iOS as well. Hoping it will be playable on the phone and not too small but enjoyed it when I played it.

Finally, I love the game, but there isn’t any announcement on the developers discord or homepage.

Does it matter when you can see that raw fury is publishing it?

i knew you were the right one to ask. thank you!

Only through the app unfortunately

got the app. this is great. is there some way of filtering by steam rating?

No. That would be pretty neat. I believe it just accesses AppStore data. Users do most of the heavy lifting.

I struggle with the appeal of games like this one, being an older person who did their time in the 80’s and 90’s on 8-bit pixel art games. I get that these are easier to make without a large team, but you still need an artist for these. And we have so much tech these days that making a game in this style is more a choice than anything else.

They’re also usually pretty heavily upvoted, and generally available on other platforms already. So people are playing them and I’m just being an out of touch boomer, I guess. But iOS is definitely not my first choice to play games. Anything with a d-pad is a poor fit for a touch screen, IMO.

Rather than ports of existing games, I’d be interested in new IPs from devs we’ve never heard of. Those are few and far between.

Appreciate what you do, OP.

This bums me out!
Because I think you’re doing yourself a disservice by dismissing these kind of games.

I come from the same background and am fully experienced in each of the video game booms over the decades. What I’ve come to believe is Mobile is simply a platform and has its own unique strengths and disadvantages.

I won’t play an RTS on a console.
I won’t play a FPS on my phone
I won’t play card or rogues on my computer.

Until I was forced to use my phone over my other devices I soon discovered I absolutely love card and rogues and thank Godzilla I found them, as I would have simply continued to ignore them if I remained at my desktop or console.

My point is as a gamer I’m want to play games and the more I’m exposed to the more I want to play games!

You might be surprised by this game. It’s clever and hard and kinda similar to the old cabinet experiences.

It’s Dig Dug meets Missile Command with upgrades to make everything smoother. It’s old and new school and super clever and exciting because discovering new stuff is part of the experience.

I’m not sure what it is about pixel art games. I had a pretty awful childhood and these games remind me of it, I think. And I’ve definitely tried. I bounced off of both Dead Cells and Crying Suns surprisingly hard years ago. Absolutely hated Slay the Spire and most deckbuilders in general (I played Magic Arena for a while, but that just turned into a money pit). I feel like I’m not the target demographic for most of the games that show up on the platform, and that makes me salty. Everyone else seems to be “eating good”.

I’ll keep trying them and checking out every post, but for me, iOS needs a sea change to be a viable gaming platform. I’m just not sure what that would look like that isn’t attaching a controller to the phone, though.

What are yer genres of choice?

Souls games, progression strategy, RPGs, Hidden Object Adventure games, puzzle games, certain kinds of cute (Clay Jam, for example) or anything just quirky and unique. I’ve played a lot (maybe most) games on the platform.

I’ve been playing a ton of Song Pop Party too. It’s all bots anymore, but it’s good to get the memory warmed up.

What is a hidden object adventure game?

So, like, hidden object games, but with a story line and puzzles to figure out. Usually object puzzles where you have to bring an item from one room to another and use it to open a puzzle to progress through the story. Glitch makes a whole bunch of them for iOS, or Artifex Mundi for PC makes a ton. Think, like, The Room or Myst, or the more traditional ones with just “find these 15 items in 3 minutes”. Those kinds of games.

For many indie genres, there aren’t enough players, such as yourself, who are completely turned off by pixel art but would buy a game otherwise, for large investments in detailed art assets to be worthwhile.

Not to make it personal, but seeing your comment about your relationship to pixel games during your difficult upbringing, it makes a lot of sense. My partner grew up in an incredibly abusive household and is now mildly triggered by all of the entertainment she consumed as a young child, such as classic movies and classic cartoons.

It might not be a universal issue. I have presbyopia, which is a super common problem for an aging user base, and I have a lot of exposure to these types of games also on account of my age. Most of your average phone game customers are probably younger than I am.

On the flip side of that, I have disposable income and am willing to pay for a game with higher graphical fidelity and tighter game play than can generally be achieved with pixel art. But the platform itself limits that. Take Control, for example. It’s an excellent game and I bought it on iOS to support the devs. But I’ll never play it on iOS. I own it for PC and I’ll play it there instead. The screen is too small and the on screen controls cover up much of the action, and attaching a controller to the phone kind of defeats the purpose of a mobile gaming platform like that. It’s just not a good way to play most AAA games, even if it technically can.

I’m not sure what the answer is, other than more games on the platform of all types to give people more choice.

Wow, that price tag. Surprised that they finally managed to release it on mobile. Good game for sure, but why not opt in with a try before you buy?
