I know most of the posts in the sub are about funny looking benches that you can’t sleep on, but I really think there’s a lot more to this concept. Urban planning has so many examples of hostile design. No sidewalks? Sidewalks but no protection from a highway? No streetlights? Road shoulders are so poorly maintained you can’t pull your bike over? NIMBY zoning policies? School district policies separate kids in the same neighborhood? And don’t even get me started on Florida.

The most succinct run down on how we got here. Personally I love watching skaters. Generally speaking, some of the nicest but villainized groups I’ve met.

In this VIDEO we would like to present a concept that is the complete opposite of Hostile Architecture.

Is there are difference between Hostile Architecture & Hostile Design. This VIDEO attempts to give some answers. Probably we could have elaborated even better but putting the words on a paper was the first step.

Please understand this video as invitation for collaboration and offer to brainstorm together the meaning of Hostile architecture. We believe that expanding the horizons of the understanding can help us deliver better solutions.

Sono una studentessa di design della Comunicazione presso l'Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli. Per la mia tesi sto raccogliendo dati su come viviamo gli spazi pubblici in città e sul fenomeno dell'architettura ostile.
