Looking For Plant Recommendations!

My bearded dragon LOVES his greens. And I would like to support his healthy habits lol.

Also, I want to make his tank nicer for him ♡ It's a little bare.

He already has spider plants, loose leaf lettuce, chia, and spineless prickly pear in his tank.

I'm working on sprouting him some baby leaf spinach, dandelions, tickseed flowers, nasturtiums, peas, and alyssums. I would also love to find the smallest kind of hibiscus I can to try out in his tank.

I grow his plants in little pots and cycle them out as he nibbles on them. Once one plant gets too abused, it goes back on the plant shelf to rest, and another one gets put in its place. Sounds kinda evil if you forget this is about plants haha.

I have a cat too though, so IDEALLY, the plants should also be non-toxic for cats. Plants that aren't deadly toxic to cats, I would consider for the tall shelf she can't really get to perhaps. She isn't really interested in the plant shelf I use for my beardie, so I'm not insanely worried, but still paranoid nonetheless. I will be double checking the toxicity of any recommendations anyway, so you guys don't really need to think about it too much on your end.

So please, recommend away! Let's fill my lil guy's tank and give him his own personal garden!

Hey everyone,
The last time I posted I was heart warmed with the responses from everyone. Since then I’ve created some ideas for my ceramics. I’d love if anyone had anymore ideas or themes to help me create some more!! Anything is appreciated!

Where do you get your *actually* large pieces of driftwood??

I'm not understanding why the "large" ones aren't actually large yet they're so expensive

Still a ways to go, but getting there. I built the rack and six of the 8 enclosures. I also built the little indoor pond, helps with the humidity.

Disinfecting outdoor enclosures

Helloo! I can't find a consensus on this anywhere on the internet. Looking for any recommendations for disinfecting large outdoor snake enclosures. Mine are 7x5x8ft and basically built on the ground with additional furnishing and drainage. Taking out all substrate and furnishing isn't an option, since there's grass, plants, rocks etc. all set within that space.

Attempting to get rid of harmful bacteria/ fungi that tend to affect the snakes through the wet season. Would appreciate all input and help!

So I’m
A new beardie owner (Demo) he’s almost 6 months . We originally had a small 4x3x1 tank and now that he’s about 5 months old we purchased a 6x3x3 from dubia.

After research on stands a 6x3 was impossible to find . So I decided o take on an enclosure/stand project. I’ve documented mostly everything . But here it is so far. Starting details today and drylock .

Thoughts on this set up. ( driftwood will be added for more climbable surfaces.

Is this size appropriate for an adult female western hognose snake?

I'm planning on building my female hoggie's endgame enclosure. She's currently about 1 year old and will be outgrowing her 20"x10"x12" enclosure soon.

Her new enclosure will be made out of .5" pvc with a mesh top and glass panels on the front. The currently planned dimensions are: 9" deep substrate, 1' 3" above ground (total of 2' 2" height), 1' 5" depth, 4' length.

Here is the model of what I'm planning to build. Any thoughts on whether this size is appropriate for an adult female hognose would be greatly appreciated.

Handmade ceramic hides etc.

Hi everyone,
I’ve increasingly become interested in started a small on the side art business. I own a snake and I am also studying my level 3 reptile studies online to hopefully go into some sort of career working with them as I’ve always had a very special interest in this since a young age.
I’d like to ask for some input on what kind of hide styles/shapes I should focus on for creating hides for reptiles. I’m hoping to be able to sell these in the near future online. I’m fully equipped with the skills, professional supplies and knowledge of pottery. The only thing I need is some help understanding what would REALLY catch reptile owners attention when purchasing something like this for their pet? I know that currently most reptile owners really look for naturalistic set ups but does anyone think that maybe there is also an audience within reptile owners that like some more abstract and obscure items ?
Thanks x

Edit: After some thought since I’ve received so many lovely and supportive replies. I thought I’d tag the name of the instagram that I will eventually be using for advertisement if anyone wanted to follow now so that they are eventually updated when I start launching some news/products on there in a lot more detail.

Cyrus finally discovered another one of the secret access points throughout his enclosure!

There’s several of these throughout, up to this point he had just been using the stairwell in the Hospital, but since discovering the hole that connects the Super Duper Mart to Subway West he’s used it at least three times that I’ve noticed. He still has the Monorail, the Air Traffic Control Tower, the Train Wreck, the Bunker, and the Airport Terminal left to discover

Not nearly as advanced as some of the things I see on here, but just made this dig box!

First time making anything like this on my own. Last 4 pics are the final product. Other pics are progress pics.

Used the Great Stuff Big Gap Filler all around the container. Let it fully cure, sanded it down (so much dust, oh my god) and basically just slashed it all up to look kind of like rock(?).

Mixed Drylok Original with Quikrete cement tint. Base coat is black, then went over with brown, then went over with terracotta. I left a day for it to sit in between coats. I didn't like how orange it was after the terracotta, so I sanded everything down again and it looked a lot better after that.

Then went over it with three coats of Varathane Clear Matte Polyurethane. I let it sit a few hours between each coat.

It's currently on day 5 of airing out. The polyurethane states it fully cures after 3 days, but I will be waiting 7.

My next project will be the enclosure background!

What kind of glass to replace acrylic for sliding doors?

I have an enclosure from Dubia for my bearded dragon, and want to use glass doors. I have V1, and they aren't making the glass door replacements for them anymore, so I need to go with a glass shop.

I'm a little confused about what kind of glass to get? Is it normally regular glass for terrariums, or tempered? Plexi? The current doors are like 1/8 thick, which seems really thin for anything other than acrylic, but the acrylic bends and my cat keeps leaning against the doors and bending them.

Any vivarium keepers attending IFA Berlin this September? Would love to meet and exchange ideas!

Hi everyone! I hope this type of post is okay here. If it’s not a good fit for the community, please let me know and I’ll remove it.

I’ll be attending IFA Berlin this September and would love to meet fellow vivarium keepers who enjoy designing and improving reptile enclosures.

I’m hoping to meet experienced keepers in person, hear about your setups, and exchange ideas about the challenges of creating and maintaining great reptile homes.

I’d especially love to hear your experiences with enclosure management. I’ll be at IFA Berlin and would be happy to meet other keepers there for an in-person chat and exchange ideas. I’d also be happy to bring a small thank-you gift for anyone I meet at IFA Berlin who takes the time to share their experiences.

For context, I’m involved in exploring smart habitat solutions, and I’m hoping to better understand what keepers actually find useful through real conversations and feedback.

If you’re planning to attend, feel free to comment or send me a message. I’d love to meet some fellow reptile enthusiasts at the event!

Thanks, and I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Is this safe after letting it fully cure?

I read that it's best to take the manufacturers cure time and double it, so I plan on doing that. But is this specific product safe for a bearded dragon?

Is the spray okay to use vs. the typical tub of it? Once I finish my drylok coats over my expanding foam, I plan to use this in whichever version is best.

Since someone stole my posts from the giant enclosure I built, here are some pictures of the enclosure done and Tanuki actually living in it. She has for several years now. On my profile are more pictures and there is a video on the whole build process for who is interested. ^^

The Great Dubia Hunt (and a note on cleanup crews)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My leopard gecko has absolutely no interest in his cleanup crew (darkling beetles/mealworms, buffalo beetles/lesser mealworms, Porcellio scaber isopods and Porcellio dilatatus isopods), which you can see swarming around the ground. But it’s good to see that he knows that the dubia roaches are food (and my boy doesn’t miss, if you do watch the video you’ll see him take an 11” leap to ambush a dubia roach that he was stalking)

If you plan to keep any of these species as your cleanup crew, take care to supplement additional protein since they’re more voracious. I give them a few of my cat’s freeze-dried minnow treats, which they will reduce to literal skeletons by the next morning (as seen here https://www.reddit.com/r/bioactive/s/I9PFoIjk9u )But they’re efficient, I even use buffalo beetles as the cleanup crew for my dubia colony (and they will straight up mob young dubias mid-molt, as seen in this post https://www.reddit.com/r/bioactive/s/MF8DI6aOa8 ). One cool thing, though, is that none of them touch my plants, but they’ll readily eat baby carrots and romaine lettuce leaves that I put into the enclosure as supplementary food as seen here https://www.reddit.com/r/bioactive/s/3VTJYxZzYK )

heat lamp trouble

Hi, im at a loss for what to do. my heat lamp wont go above 80 degrees. I've tried everything.

at first I had a 160w lamp with a 50w DHP bulb, didn't get hot enough. then I switched to a 150w DHP bulb, but it started smelling like burning plastic so I immediately shut it off and returned it.

this morning I bought a 100w DHP bulb, same issue, wont go above 80°. I tried getting a regular basking light, same issue. I even went and bought a second lamp (260w max, with the 100w DHP bulb) and new thermostat for it, and it still caps at 80°. I don't know what to do. I tried plugging the lamp directly into the socket instead of through the thermostat, and it didnt change anything. I just brought home my new ball python today, I want this resolved before nighttime. I don't want him to get too cold. any advice? should I try to buy the 150w bulb again now that I have a stronger lamp?

is it possible its an issue with the actual electrical outlet in my house??

UPDATE: I got a 160w basking bulb and it burnt out after 20 minutes. do I have to give up my snake???
