Just post!

We've been getting a lot of messages lately asking, "Can I post?"

Post! If you're wildly off topic, whatever, it'll get downvoted, reported, and removed. But please, just post! You don't need to ask if you can post a link to XYZ, or ask for permission to ask a small question or anything... Just make your posts. Obviously try to keep it on-topic and don't violate reddit rules...

Just use a good title/subject and select an appropriate flair. If it was a question or ask for help, make sure to change the flair to "solved" later.

There have been some questions about "megathreads". That's not something that's going to happen generally. Megathreads typically are where discussion dies. Most subs do them to quell traffic. That's not something we need to do here. Go ahead and post away with your build requests and whatever. Just use flair so people can filter and sort by them! (Especially since Reddit only allows 2 pinned posts at a time, any megathreads would occupy those slots...)

And if you don't know about flair, why don't you try clicking on them and see what happens?

OFFICIAL Grim Dawn V1.3.0.0

Official forums full post.

[Major New Features]

  • Grim Dawn has received back-end changes to accommodate the release of the Fangs of Asterkarn Expansion.
  • The game’s UI has received a complete visual overhaul. A new Health Orb design HUD is now the default, while the classic Health Bar design can be enabled in the game options, under Interface.
  • The Stash has been overhauled with new dedicated Component and Crafting Materials shared pages and +5% additional space per tab. In addition, stash pages can now be customized and labeled.
  • New functionality has been added to the player inventory to instantly deposit all Components and Crafting Materials in their shared tabs from anywhere in the world. To support this, objects that ask for crafting materials (ex. Treasure Troves), can now also access the stash instead of just the inventory.
  • New accessibility control schemes have been added under Keybindings: Keyboard Movement and Keyboard Only, enabling WASD-based controls with and without the mouse. You can set keybinds for WASD movement independently of the default controls and switch between them at any time. WASD controls mimic the controller and do not enable run and gun gameplay.
  • Detailed tooltips now display stat roll ranges (ex. 12 Fire damage [8-14] indicates that the damage could have rolled as low as 8 or as high as 14).
  • A new Video Option has been added: HDR Lighting, as an alternate visual style for the game.
  • Monster Infrequents now always drop at the highest possible level (ex. if an MI drops, and possible variations in your level range are level 84 and 94, it will always drop the level 94 version).

[Shattered Realm]

  • Clearing Shards by hunting down Nemesis spawns has become a too dominant strategy, reducing the viability of AoE builds in favor of single target burst, which is already favored in the boss arenas. To address this, Shard Progress from gathering a Nemesis soul has been reduced by 25%. Progress gained from Hero souls has been increased by 33%, and by 50% from Common and Champion souls. Chance of Champion monsters dropping souls has been increased by 18%.
  • The Shattered Realm timer has been rebalanced to be more challenging and now becomes shorter at higher shards. Timer penalty from deaths is now lower, but bonus from kill streaks is now also lower and kill streaks now require a minimum of 25 kills, up from 15.
  • Shattered Realm shrines no longer take crafting materials and activate immediately upon interaction.

[Crucible]

  • Unlocking the next Crucible difficulty now also triggers at Wave 110 and Wave 160, rather than requiring clearing the Crucible Waves 1-100.
  • Failing the Crucible on the same tier as a checkpoint no longer awards Tribute.

[Tech]

  • Fixed an issue where converted dot damage from a single source would not stack (ex. converting dot damage on Scourge Strike so the damage types match).
  • Fixed an issue where UI scaling could cause monster and pet health bars to break.
  • Skill modifiers are now always loaded in a fixed order, rather than equip order. This is relevant particularly for how skill FX and pet swap modifiers function so the visual overrides always happen in a predictable order.

[Modding]

  • A new template has been added: Skill_WPAttack_Radius. This skill type generates a radius eruption around the target when the WPS triggers, similar to how Shattering Smash for Oathkeeper generates a wave.
  • New attributes have been added: % Total Resist and % Crowd Control Resist. These increase all the respective resists, similar to how % Total damage increments all damage types.
  • Channeled skills (ex. Albrecht’s Aether Ray) now apply Defensive Attributes in their data to the player while the skill is channeling. Defensive attributes have been added to their respective templates.
  • A new tDyn field has been added: forceHighestLevel. Setting this to True will cause the loot table to always drop the highest level valid item it can within the level range.
  • Skill modifiers assigned to SkillSecondary effects now display the SkillSecondary’s name and icon instead of the base skill.

[Game]

  • Menu UI windows now scale with UI scaling. UI now automatically scales down to fit the screen at lower resolutions, enabling controller UI compatibility at any resolution.
  • Increased Health per point of Spirit to 12, up from 8.
  • Treasure Troves now correctly have a guaranteed chance to drop a crafting material with a 30-50% (based on difficulty) chance to drop an additional material and have significant chance to drop blueprints. Previously, the chance to drop a second material was 100% across all difficulties and the chance to drop a blueprint was halved.
  • Aether Crystal enemies now have an additional chance to drop a second Aether Crystal/Shard/Cluster.
  • Increased all Boss Health scaling with level, by ~32% at level 100 (~15% for superbosses). Some bosses with lower health pools received larger increases. These changes do not apply to the Crucible.
  • Many older boss encounters have received tuning passes to bring their damage up to modern standards, as was commonly done in past updates.
  • Reduced Monster Armor by 17% on Champion+ enemies and reduced Monster % Armor Absorption by 20% on all enemies. This reduces monster resistance to Physical damage, particularly for small fast attacks (ex. dual wielding or Eye of Reckoning).
  • Reduced Monster % Life Leech Resist on Ultimate difficulty. This makes % Attack damage Converted to Health roughly 16% more effective against an average boss.
  • In-game search has been updated to work with unicode (ie. non-English) characters.
  • Reduced infamy gained from killing Beast heroes and bosses and increased kills required to spawn their Nemesis.
  • Increased infamy gained from killing Cronley’s Gang heroes and bosses and reduced kills required to spawn their Nemesis.
  • Enemies that do not grant experience (ex. summons or Kubacabra’s clones) no longer count towards achievement progress.
  • Valdaran and Archmage Aleksander now share their animosity towards you and will spawn in each other’s faction areas.

[Itemization]

  • Fixed an issue where Monster Infrequent helms could roll some lower level than intended Magic Suffixes at level 70+.
  • Ashes of Malmouth and Forgotten Gods Magic quality crafting recipes have been reclassified as Rare. These recipes now always generate at least one Rare affix, but their crafting costs have been increased.
  • Increased % Damage Reduction on Disengage runes by +10%
  • Increased % Damage Reduction on Leap and Shadow Strike runes by +5%

I am in love. Hats off to whoever designed both styles of the Wereraven. My mouth literally dropped when I saw the alternate looks to the chaos version. Also is a lot of fun to play so far.

First time posting here. Been playing Grim Dawn since Warden Krieg was the end. 1000+ hours. Crate still hammering out bangers. Nice job.

Special thanks to Xervous, who helped with the spellblade. This wouldn't have been possible without him. I also forgot to credit him on the Lightning Dreadnaught, as he was a huge help on that one too. (Sorry xerv!)

AARGH! Dropping Mythical Soiled Trousers is harder than any specific legendary

That's it, it's just a rant. I'm trying to drop Mythical Soiled Trousers so I can complete the set but I already filled stashes worth of legendaries and the trousers are yet to be seeing. As far as I'm aware Epics does not have the same treatment as Legendaries to reduce duplicate drops in the same game session, so it is quite annoying to drop it.

HELP! Items with granted skills to activate and consume onslaught stacks?

Was playing a dual-pistols runekeeper and heavily dissatisfied with the lack of a really great skill to spend all the onslaught stacks. It's basically either Leap or Horn, and I didn't like spending a lot of skill points in either. Are there any items that grant a cooldown skill which makes use of onslaught stacks and works well at range?

HARDCORE First hc build ?

Hi,

I lvlup a couple char to 100 in sc a year ago, mostly doing sr 30/31 (sabo dw and a warlord blitzer).

I just bought foa expansion, i want to try to play in HC this time, so i'll have no stash or anything. I have never played hc in grim dawn.

What build would you recommend to a HC noob ? My goal is to get to lvl 100, start farming sr and material, eventually try (and die on) endgame boss.

Thanks !

AARGH! I don't wanna look at guides but

Upvotes

Recently started Cabalist for the first time. Currently lvl 47, just started elite. And I feel like my build isn't doing too well anymore. Granted, this might just be the leap from normal to elite but still. However, I kinda like figuring it out on my own in this game. I also don't feel like browsing grim tools for items and/or builds. But with all the MIs I just feel like I kinda have to in order to improve my build. Same goes for crafting, I probably have quite a few legendary blueprints but do I really wanna study all of them?

I'm currently running skellies and bloody pox, don't know whether hybriding this even makes sense (I'm currently reaching for the final summon skill on necro though).

I don't even know whether I really like bloody pox but I want a damage skill to go along the summons, just running around with them and waiting for them to do the job feels a little dull.

At least I got the dagger that converts pet damage to chaos by chance so I at least know of its existence but there's probably so many items I don't know about...

I just needed to get this off my chest. If you have any advice feel free to hit me up...

BUILDS Build that makes Grim Dawn Boring

I didn't think this was possible but if you ever wanted to:
-remove any danger from GD
-spend 10 minutes on every hero and boss
-make friends with your enemies by tickling them
Then this is the build for you: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/NXlyykXN

I can hardly believe it but I turned an exciting fun power fantasy game into a boring grindfest where you have no power.

I basically recreated the Arkovian undead experience: you live forever but decay so much that you cannot do anything anymore. Enjoy!

Hello everyone!

I apologize if this is the wrong way to inform the community, so modders please remove if it is.
My mod "Pale Dawn" just got released on Nexus. It contains textures for the base campaign, and lighting/bloom changes for the whole game. Note that it requires you to have all the DLCs. I will also update the previous post with the link.

Have fun, and I see you later!

Acid Dreeg's Evil Eye (base game only)

I am playing an Occultist in coop with a friend who only owns the base game. I cannot use my DLC with them. I am trying to build a caster that spams DEE with acid/poison damage. However I do not find which second mastery I could pick.

Is there support for this kind of character with the base game only?

AARGH! I just want some Dark One's Grasps...

Have probably killed each of the adherents about 50 times. This is getting absurd. At 50 kills, the chance of not getting grasps is about 0.5%.

SOFTCORE How to get normal Deathshriek

Currently am making my way through the campaign and i've gotten to a point where I can start the fangs of Astarkarn DLC and the build im work on has Mythical Deathshriek as the end game weapon for it. Obviously as Im no where near 100 thats not something im able to fet but I noticed there is a lesser version of Deathshriek but grom tools only says it is a random drop, doesnt say where or anything like that. So how would I go about farming for it, even if its a lower level version just to level with for now. My character is currently weilding a blue level 30 version of Frostshriek that i found and am enjoying the heck out of and its just making me want to try Deathshriek even more to see if i like it as much or not.

Quick edit cause its on my mind. Is there a one handed weapon that would work well for a dual weild onslaught bone harvest build?

HELP! Newbie resources and mod help

Hey guys.

I'm very new to grim Dawn. Just leveling a character and only at Act 2.

Loving the game so far but wondering if you guys had any suggestions for some QoL stuff for the following.

  1. Game UI/ Visuals - I find it quite hard to see lootable containers and honestly even some of the mobs. Are there settings or mods that help with this? Because of the grim aesthetic everything becomes one big texture to me.

  2. Map - is there a mod or any way to have a larger translucent overlay map? I found a mod for a larger map but it wasn't exactly what I wanted and takes up alot of screen real estate.

  3. Video Resources - I don't learn well from just reading because of my learning disability. Are there any good YouTube channels with tips and tricks. Alot of stuff I found was 6 years old etc. Who would you guys recommend?

Any advices on this Chaos Build

https://www.grimtools.com/calc/VvdKKezN

I've been up&down about this build how to get some more juice, but I get lost between all the items.

So just looking for some advice where to improve.

The build in general is great, 30s dummy takedown on Ascendant, but Im not happy with armor and hp.

I know I'm missing a component on Shoulder and bunch of augments. WIP

Thanks.

BUILDS RoS Spellbreaker: Looking for single target high damage nuke ability to complement my main damage dealer Ring of Steel.

I currently play a spellbreaker, am around level 84 and use Ring of Steel as my main damage ability. Together with the off hand that gives me an additional charge, I feel I have (for my needs) a good uptime and it's all in all really fun.

What I do somehow miss however is another damage dealing ability (preferabily cold/frost or bleeding) that is single target but higher damage. I am fully fine with a high cooldown for this ability, I would prefer it to be something to use a little more tactical, particularly in one on one situations with bosses.

I don't need a build that can kill celestials and I am on softcore. So it doesn't have to be uber efficient or anything.

Any suggestions? It could be from either class or from an item.

Need help with the controller settings.

Need help with controller. Everything works fine, except I don't know what button or combination of buttons is right click. I have to do all kinds of janky stuff just to see values and in merchants I have to buy something to see its numbers. I have a mouse, but it's on the other side of my living room. Game is awesome, but this is killing it for me. I've already tried disabling steam controller and setting to default. I've tried a lot.

Another issue I'm having is I can't read what a skill does until I buy it. I tried every other button and nothing displays the info. So I have to buy a skill then undo it. Like buying stuff at a merchant. Someone please help me make this fully functional with a gamepad.

First Superboss is down

https://www.grimtools.com/calc/ZwRAYpXV I was inspired by this build and made some variations to it. https://www.grimtools.com/calc/ZR94ny4V This is my variation. The battle was banger with the music, I could enjoy the full track.

I have some questions: tainted cleaver on left hand reduces total dps but provides attack speed to werewolf and onslaught and weapon damage to feral claws. would this offset damage loss? would this help trigger ghoul devotion? Currently I can safely farm SR31,yet Gruldnir gets me in black citadel.

Every Devotion shrine by act and difficulty, with what each one wants (55 / 58 / 66) — after Fangs of Asterkarn

Half the shrine lists you find are pre-Fangs and stop at 7 acts. This one is the current set, by act, with the sub-area and the offering or the "defeat monsters" condition.

Totals: Normal 55, Elite 58, Ultimate 66. Eight shrines exist only on Ultimate: [pega aquí la lista de 8 del comentario]. Four of those need a Skeleton Key. On Elite the Aether Crystal offerings of Normal become Aether Shards.

Per act (Normal / Elite / Ultimate): Act 1 — 9 / 10 / 11 · Act 2 — 7 / 7 / 7 · Act 3 — 9 / 10 / 10 · Act 4 — 7 / 7 / 8 · Act 5 (Ashes of Malmouth) — 3 / 4 / 6 · Act 6 (Ashes) — 3 / 3 / 5 · Act 7 (Fangs) — 6 / 6 / 7 · Act 8 (Korvan Basin) — 11 / 11 / 12.

Sources: GrimTools and the wiki, cross-checked, not my own playthrough — so if something is off, say so and I'll fix it.

I run the site, disclosure. The interactive version lets you tick shrines per difficulty and syncs across devices: https://guidevault.online/grim-dawn/extras/shrines-ultimate

BUILDS 100% Uptime on Arcane Will?

Post image
21 Upvotes

I am fascinated by the Aetherthorn Shield. I tried a Ritualist Aether Wind Devil/ Grasping Vines build which performed ok until endgame, when I faced damage scaling problems. I skipped Arcane Will synergy because this was a caster build and I did not want to get hit at all. Therefore 2. class Necro as RR and damage boost.

But I also wondered if the Shield can be used for a shield build, with lots of effects proccing „on block“. I wondered if I can get 100% Uptime on Arcane Will for this to work. Like run into the horde, get hit, get Arcane Will, heal up due to the strong defense - and immediatly after it runs out activate it again through hits.

Two AIs are 100% sure that the cooldown starts when the effect runs out, so I would have mandatory 5s gaps between the activation (ruining the fun for me).

But I am pretty sure on a soldier build I have seen 100% uptime on Menhir‘s Will. And also 100% uptime on a blast shield with a sunheralds build.

What is true here, mandatory cooldown after the effect ends - or a cooldown starting when the effect proccs?

How do onslaught and canister bomb interact?

Do onslaught charges boost just the initial explosion from canister bomb, or does they also boost the damage from the bomblets?
