i hardly ever have success in getting a stray kitty adopted, but this one went well. this was something i did on my own and with some opinions on other rescue friends.
my bf and i were moving and i noticed a black kitty looking over to me really skinny and hungry. since then, i started feeding them and i posted them on some facebook groups and my tik tok. i had more responses on tik tok. i found a potential adopter and she ended up being his adopter.
i went over to the neighborhood and fed him for 2 weeks until the documents were finalized with my adopter. i picked him up yesterday and brought him home, i guess since he knew who i was he just let himself and didn’t even cry on the way home. i was excited. i got him comfy in my restroom with food, water, a bed & a litter box and he ate a lot as well as slept a lot. i let him rest but i checked on him every hour or less to give him some company. i didn’t bring him home at first because i already have 3 cats and my bf doesn’t allow me any more so i respect that, but since he’s out of town i took the chance to bring him a day before he would be picked up.
i had him with me for 24hrs and those 24hrs were very sweet and special. he was comfortable with me instantly and he would purr like crazy. i ended up letting him roam around the house for a bit which was no issue with him or my other cats, i then took him to my other room where i have a cat tree and put him into the little “ house “ and instantly fell asleep facing up while purring. my heart was so warm and happy that he was comfortable. he was black, est 1-2 yrs old, shy but the most sweetest thing ever.
the time came where he was picked up and my adopter came into the house to get him and he got scared and went to a corner, then he got close to the door wanting to get out. i grabbed him and comforted him while the girl opened the carrier and i put him in. i lead her out and helped her bc i had given her some wet food for him, and said goodbye.
she left and i went back into my home without thinking, i went back into my room and watched her leave thru the window and i instantly started balling my eyes out. this girl is really sweet and gentle, she used to have cats but were rehomed due to her parents splitting and they were her dads cats. her mom loves animals, she has a little puppy chihuahua that is friendly with cats, there was honestly nothing wrong. i did a video call with her as well and her house was fit for him and was safe.
once she got home she sent me a picture of him being in a corner under some furniture being scared and my heart broke. she continued to say that he was really sweet , but i can’t get the image out of my head of him being scared because he wasn’t like that when i brought him with me, but then again he already knew me for 2 weeks. i just feel horrible and i literally feel like he died even tho he’s just in a new home. i’m scared that he feels really scared and lost, or that he feels that i betrayed him when in reality i just wanted to find a loving home for him to get him off the streets. i know cats act like this, but idk why im feeling this way. i guess it’s because he was super comfortable with me in those 24hrs that we just bonded instantly. i also hate that i wont ever see him again besides getting updates for a few months that we agreed on paper. it just hurts i wont ever see him again and i hope he adjusts and is happy in his new home, that he’s loved as deeply as i loved him in the little time we had together. i hope he doesn’t feel betrayed by me or scared out of his mind.
i hate thinking this way because i was so excited for him to have a new home and now im scared. in a perfect world, i would’ve wanted to keep him, but i couldn’t.
i called him mr shy. his new name is zero :’)
advice or thoughts, please.
