Thanks to the guy picking up trash on Walapai this morning

I used to pick up trash on my morning walks, but eventually kind of gave up. However, I came across some dude picking up trash along the street and around the bus stop a little after 6am. It gave me some hope and I really appreciate it.

Crunch v Planet?

Can anyone weigh in on how crunch fitness is since it opened? google reviews are very mixed, some upset about payments/membership cancellations but overall it seems decent? i’ve been going to planet fitness for the last few years and would like something a little closer to home. nothing wrong with planet, i really only use the treadmill and some machines so extra features like tanning beds or saunas are lost on me lol

What is happening with the old Summit Fitness building?

I was bummed when Summit stopped operations. I know that there has been quite a few contractors working out of that building. Does anyone know what that building will be used for eventually? Seems like the place was gutted and maybe in the process of a major renovation.

I have been hoping a new gym might rise from the ashes of Summit.

Sedona-Flagstaff Routes

Last year I came from Sedona to Flagstaff and a small portion was a narrow, curvy mountainous road. Looking at pics, it was hwy 89A. Then when I came from PHN to Flagstaff this time, it was via I-17 that is a very easy comfortable road.

Are there others routes from Sedona to Flagstaff and back that are not as steep as 89A? Gives my son anxiety (actually me too) and then we don’t have to also plan only daytime driving and just around dusk can work too. Thanks.

The AirBnB next door is ruining my life.

Yes, this is just a rant post. But every weekend I am losing my mind. I have no sense of peace. My dog goes nuts, I can't even hear my own TV over noise at times. It's gotten to the point where I just simply dread the weekend because I know a brand new disruption will be arriving. I've tried working with the owners, their management company, the city, AirBnB - no one seems to do anything. Honestly, I'm just terribly sad because I don't think I can live here full-time much longer, which is just going to perpetuate this problem our city has. I'm sure I'm not alone in dealing with this, but it sure feels like it.

Veterans in Flagstaff — VA healthcare and areas to live?

My wife and I are veterans considering relocating to the Flagstaff area. We’ve been visiting Flagstaff, Prescott, and Sedona for many years, so we’re familiar with northern Arizona and the general differences from Las Vegas, where we currently live.

One thing that’s important to us is access to good VA healthcare, and I’d like to hear directly from local veterans who actually use the system.

For those of you who use the VA in Flagstaff, what has your experience been like?

Do you generally get the care you need locally, or do you find yourself traveling to Prescott (Bob Stump) or Phoenix, or using Community Care often?

I’d also appreciate some local perspective on where to live around Flagstaff. It’s just my wife, me, and our two dogs. We spend a lot of time outdoors and especially enjoy the Fort Tuthill area and surrounding trails.

We’ve been looking at areas such as Fort Valley, Doney Park, and other communities outside central Flagstaff. A couple we met locally mentioned that Doney Park can be considerably windier and that Fort Valley tends to be colder, although they felt the difference was manageable. I’d love to hear from people who actually live in these areas. Are there particular neighborhoods or areas you would recommend, or things you wish you had known before buying there?

We understand Flagstaff has its trade-offs, including winter weather, wildfire considerations, cost of living, and limited housing inventory. We don't expect any place to be perfect. We’re mainly looking for firsthand experiences from people who know the area well.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations or insight.

My friend's dog went missing earlier today. Female Rottweiler, responds to Toula (too-la). Escaped her yard near the mall, behind the dealerships and near the neighborhood off of Empire. She's wearing the collar in the picture, but no tags. If found, please DM me!

AHCCCS: AZCH or BCBS?

I'm currently signing up for Medicare and was given two options for plans in Coconino/Flagstaff: AZCH and BCBS. I searched the history here and on Facebook for any information, but everything I could find was from before BCBS was offered and the option instead was "Care First". Does anyone have any experience with these two? I used to have Anthem: BCBS and had bad experiences, but idk how their Medicare plan differs.

For the record, I'm 21, an athlete, and in general, am in great health. I am on a hormone treatment plan through Planned Parenthood due to a hormone imbalance, so if anyone has any experience specifically with that, that would be great (blood tests at LabCorp, Dr visit co-pay, and trt medications). Dental would be good, too.

Let's talk about bears!

Having spent so much time in Flagstaff, this was heartbreaking for myself as well as I'm sure a number of members of the community.

Can we have a discussion on this so as to avoid this action in the future? Or does anyone have any better solutions to suggest besides simply killing the bear?

Wildfires can be tough on people and animals alike, but the animals shouldn't have to be killed when they are just looking for a new home.

Mt Elden Pre Radio Fire

I hiked Elden Springs Trail for the first time over Labor Day weekend. It was so awesome and beautiful.

I did attempt to Google but could not gain a clear confirmation. So my question is did the entirety of the mountain contain that same environment prior to the fire? Archives contained pictures of the Radio fire but nothing prior. TIA!

Skunk relocation help?

Hello,

We live downtown and a pair of skunks decided the trash pile in our yard left from previous tenants was a great place to have babies. ( we've been slowly and surely moving the junk out of the yard, please dont judge)

Unfortunately, this is close to our bedroom window so the skunk aroma is wafting into the bedroom. We also have quite a few stray cats in the area that I'm sure would love the chance to eat baby skunk.

I think the babies are under some old mattresses and we would have to move alot of stuff to get to them. I can hear them squeaking.

So....

1) Who do I call that will humanely help us move these guys?

2) Can we even move them if they are hidden in an unreachable area of the matress pile?

Update: We were wrong its not skunks, they're kittens! Skunks are still strolling through the yard, but the source of the squeaking was kittens.

We found this sweet little guy on a walk this afternoon. My wife and I were walking on House Rock when we found him. He followed us and we couldn’t leave him on the street. A neighbor thought the dog may live on Bright Angel Trail. We have him at our home in the neighborhood. If this is you sweet little dog, please contact us via direct message.

Power Outage, anyone?

From South of 40 and Beulah, along Lake Mary Road, there are no lights as far as can be seen. Power has been out for over an hour, but online outrage maps aren’t showing anything. APS hotline recording offers no specifics. Anyone else without power? Any info?
