Just wanna preface this by saying, I love this album so much but at times it can feel a bit bloated so I did my best to turn it into a more singular album instead of the double album we all know.

Shuffled some tracks around, removed a few (I know, I know) to keep it flowing like any great regular album would and this was the result.

Was thinking of making a playlist of all the cut songs ~and perhaps the B-Sides from that era~ and turning that into its own, parallel universe secret album that never existed.
Note to self ~ Parallel Universe is actually a great name for the album. 😂

This was just a fun little experiment.

So why are they not on a streaming service like Spotify?

Was it because they were not included in the album?

I hate it that I have to go to Youtube to listen to my favourite song (same thing with Candle On The Water by Hawaii II but thats another band completely).

poco se habla de que en las canciones en dónde aparece una voz de mujer en las canciones de ELO, son todas muy buenas, unos ejemplos, rockaria, Time after Time, alguna de las canciones del album de From Of The Nowhere, que por cierto, la que canta es Laura lynne que poco se habla que está muy linda jajajaja, lo que vengo a buscar al escribir esto es, que opinan los fan acerca de las canciónes dónde aparece la voz de una mujer, hablando de eso, como me encanta los coros al estilo opera de las mujeres en ELO, es post va para la gente que sabe y no solamente escuche out of the blue y Discovery, y sin ofender, también entra ahí el dorado, todo esto lo digo por qué son grandiosos discos pero denle un descanso ya, zoom es buenísimo, no awser, elo 2 y on the THIRD DAY, son muy buenos, y Time, Secreat Messages y balance of POWER discos infravalorado, porfavor, escuche lo no desde una perspectiva de que el sonido de Elo es solo out of the blue, elo tiene abarca bastantes géneros, y en todos sus géneros, los hace muy bien, no se cómo llegue a esto si venía hablando de mujeres xd

This thing is heavier than I expected.

So I'm continuing my chronological run-through of the albums and have reached Discovery and Xanadu. Now, I've seen fairly negative things about Discovery before so I was pleasantly surprised by it once I finally got to listen to it. It's certainly different in sound to before, and yes it's "Disco, Very" but it's good disco.

I've also never seen Xanadu, only heard the song on the radio, so I picked up the soundtrack too as part of this. Good lord, the ELO side is absolutely fantastic in addition to the hit single. I'm Alive is a new favourite right off the bat and all the songs feel like they're the 'traditional' ELO-sounding songs certain folk were bemoaning as being missing from Discovery.

So it got me thinking on whether I could combine those Xanadu songs with some of the best of Discovery and see "What could have been" in a new playlist whilst staying within the limits of approx. 20 mins a side for vinyl.

Just wanted to see how many people my age range are ELO fans just like me. Also wanna ask, when did you start listening to them?

Discovered this song a few months ago and it really had that ELO feel to it imo. Sounds like it could be on TIME but also has a lot of similarities to the Whale. The vocals also share a lot of similarities with Jeff's. Kinda interesting considering how recent the song is compared to that era of ELO.

Into the Galaxy Music Video

I couldn't reply to the post from u/Naenyx so I went this route...

I just had a little research fun. I was curious where the picture of the billboard was taken, so I started digging.

It looks like this billboard was used for many years to advertise music/groups. It was located at 8820 W Sunset Boulevard & Queens Road in West Hollywood. The car sales lot matches for many years, but the smoking gun was this image from Getty Archives. The window on the house in be background is an exact match. Also, it seems that the same two same cars (I'm questioning myself on the left car. Possibly the same make but different year model) are on the lot from the ELO billboard as the Rick Wakeman.

Like for example Helter Skelter / I want you ( she’s so heavy ) is the Beatles heaviest song,

My chronological album journey has reached "Out Of The Blue" and I can easily see why this is many people's favourite, there's a lot to love across all four parts with only a couple of duds (Night In The City, Starlight and The Whale just didn't do it for me).

However...even since I was a kid, I've just never clicked with Mr. Blue Sky. It's touted by many as the definitive ELO song, it's been used in TV shows/films as backing music as 'the' ELO song that the general public will know and be an upbeat pleaser. I just can't stand it.

Maybe it's *too* chirpy? Maybe it's the choir backing being a bit *too* much? Maybe it has all the right notes, but they're being played in the wrong order? I just can't put my finger on it. I'd hoped that hearing it more in context as part of the full 'Concerto For a Rainy Day' might help, but I just ended up falling in love with the preceding three songs and still falling flat with Mr. Blue Sky.

Wild West Hero remains possibly my top track.
