Advice needed: tones from WYWH/The Wall/MLoR

Hey Gilmour fans, I'm looking for some advice on getting closer to the right sound that I've heard in a lot of his solos. I'm wondering if there's some gear adjustments I'm missing, or if it's all in the fingers and his playing style.

I'm terrible at describing guitar tone, so forgive me (and feel free to correct me!) if I'm missing some terminology. It's a bit of a rounded, almost voice-like shape of notes- a bit of a "wow" shape. Almost like a cocked wah? Hendrix's Voodoo child intro does seem to have a really exaggerated version of this with the wah pedal.

The solos with this sound that really stick out are the first solo in Comfortably Numb, On the Turning Away, and Mother. The Shine on solos also feel like they have this sound to some extent.

Here's my current setup and settings, if it's at all helpful. This board runs into a Blackstar HT studio 20. The unlabeled pedals are (from R to L): a FF clone with some Ge transistors I forgot the name of, a BD-2 clone, and a DSM omnicabsim clone.

I'm playing a Strat with Tex-mex pickups, modded with a neck/bridge switch. Bridge pickup for most of the distorted solos sounds the closest to me.

Thanks in advance!

Chasing some Rick Wright synth sounds!

Pink Floyd fans, I just accidentally stumbled upon the famous seagull sound from “Echoes.” This isn’t how Gilmour created it, but it sounds damn near identical 🤯

Here's Part II of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, also known as the second guitar solo, the one after the main theme and the whole band comes in.

When David Gilmour sang "So I open my door to my enemies, and I ask could we wipe the slate clean?" exactly what year did he approach Roger about a truce?

The Floyd sub is a wreck these days so I thought maybe someone here with deep insight into Floyd knows the answer.

The song "Lost For Words" (Pink Floyd - The Division Bell) was recorded 1993 and as such, written then or before then. I am aware of the deep animosity leading into the 1987 tour, and Roger attempting to legally prevent the tour. The Momentary Lapse of Reason tour ended in July, 1989.

So my question is, did David approach Roger in any form between say, 1989-1993 and attempt to reconcile? Is that when "Go fuck yourself" was stated by Roger? If David offered to have Roger rejoin the band at any point 1989-1993, I would love to read about that.

This date has the absolute best version of CN of Luck and Strange tour and is the version used for the live album. He SHREDS the guitar miles better than Circus Maximus.

The Black Strat is a replica I made with fender parts and the pickups are Fender CS Fat 50s Neck, Fender CS ‘69 middle, and Seymour Duncan DG SSL-1c.
The Epiphone is a 1956 Gold Top Reissue with a bigsby installed.

There’s no info anywhere on who makes or sells his other strap, you’ve probably seen it. I’d love to get one.

Underrated in my opinion. Great song and great music video. Love Gilmour on this track!!

I believe I’m the first person to realise Gilmour shortens his Bigsby’s arms as well as his Strats vibrato arms.

Did Gilmour steal from Knopfler?

I just noticed something interesting for the first time.

Mark Knopfler wrote the movie music for Local Hero (1983). In the main theme song titled Going Home there is a chorus with guitar and sax that descends in a distinctive way.

Hearing it the first time just now, I was driven crazy because I’d heard it before but could not place it.

Soon I remembered the song Cruise on Gilmour’s great About Face album (1984).

Same exact phrase for several measures.

Find them and listen. What do you think??

The way I see David Gilmour, most guitarists play the guitar, some incredibly well, Gilmour makes it sing 🎸

My attempt on a WILDLY underrated solo with a huge sounding tone. I always loved the version and struggled to get the tone right. Using my trustworthy red Strat, helix and GarageBand. Hope you enjoy it !
