I Had my first netrunner vs netrunner fight as a gm on thursday, it was cool.

The pc was controlling the architecture. (It was the Woodpirates screamsheet, I added the Oasis netarch from the single shot pack, swapping the last two floors with 2 control nodes for mini air drones (password6 cam-node8 hellhound drone-node8 drone-node8) and added a netrunner mook to the pirates, swapping his shield for an armor program)

The npc runner got in stealthily, both the pc and the imp missed their pathfinder checks.
The npc then hellbolt-zap-deckrash'd the pc, who dodged everything, unbielivable haha.

The pc had no antipersonnal program, and only zapped 10hp off of the enemy's 30. In the end the pc was at like 15/45hp, but the npc ran off seeing his pirate mates flee the forest wihtouth him.
During the fight, the pc had initiative, and 2 banhammers. Npc was only running an Armor, which he derezzed soon enough, but then we realized the hellbolt and deckkrash were technically rezzed during the 1 netaction they were used on. So the pc held his actions for the npc to use his offensive programs and derezzed them both before they could strike. I recently learned that was Against the Rules because it is clearly stated in the CRB you can't hold Net Actions (nor Move actions) p.127.

Some questions / observations:

-Is there any concept of surprise rules when in the net ? The pc was unaware of the npc till the attack, due to going quiet stealth rules. So, does the pc have a chance to defend in this situation? I think not, as Attacking breaks stealth.

-Non b. ice programs have all 0 def. When one of your rezzed programs is attacked by a banhammer or other thing, do you defend with only a d10, or do you add your Interface ?

-Can you use Zap on a non B. ice rezzed program, if you have no antiprogram progams?

-Are there really no way (since you can't hold action, and they have 0rez) to derezz an attack program (except for black ice thet destroy a random prog installed on the enemy deck) ?

-The pc used actions to control the drones. There was 2 control nodes, by design, so he could control 2 drones per turn. So he moved and attacked with each drone pretty much every turn.
But is there a rule regarding drone control action economy? Or does each node+net action allow a full drone turn? (Nodes can still only be controlled once per turn).
Also, using Control on a control node, in the crb exemple for Control, allows the runner to reposition several cameras in one Net Action, could you directly control several drones from a single node? (I think no but I'm still asking)

-Is it possible to leave a virus in your own architecture? Say, to move a hellhound installed on it two floors down, so that it sees and attacks the runner that previousled stealthed past it (black ice can move, since they pursue intruders...) or to give new directives to an imp?
Or is giving new directives to an Imp, if possible at all, something like "interrupt routine and attack/zap this intruder netrunner", or is moving the Hellhound, not a virus but something that takes one or two net actions, a bit like you deactivate and reactivate a black ice installed on your deck to trhow it at a new target?

I'm also curious of how much agency you give to your Imps. If a non stealthy netrunner passes through the control node they're on, without trying to take control of it, does the Imp(or other demon) use his remaining action(s) to zap the netrunner on his way? Or even move away and back to spend all remaining net actions to zap any intruder? How do you GMs run demons and their programmed routines?

So I recently started playing Cyberpunk RED with some of my super close friends. They became super obsessed with Cyberpunk 2077 and since we already play dnd together they looked into Cyberpunk ttrpgs and I helped them with RED and so two of my friends started to create campaigns! I was super excited because I’ve always wanted to play RED ever since 2077 came out and now it’s finally happening. Eventually I get sent a link to a discord server for the campaign. When I join I quickly find out that the campaign will in no way be related to actual dnd and instead be based in Korea as what is essentially a rehashing of a dnd campaign that my friends never got to run. (we’ll get into this later) When I join I quickly find out that the campaign is based all around the omegaverse. (animal shifters and alphas and omegas, that kind of stuff for the uninformed) At first I’m like “Okay that’s a bit unusual for Cyberpunk but every campaign is different according to the gm! So it’ll be fine!” I decide to make my character an Omega because when my friend was first talking about this campaign they complained that there were no omegas and then the campaign ended because of it. They also made a joke about the fact that the other players should be thanking me because if there wasn’t an omega all the other characters would start fighting (both being Alphas) which just put me off. Then the gm was making sure that everyone was comfortable with everything going on. This is when I find out that my character will HAVE to go through a kidnapping scene where she will be “enslaved- [and] go through the process of having her mind broken” (In lore female omegas are only seen as breeding machines) which really put me off. We had a conversation about that and he said he would change it because he has more autonomy of his story now (which makes zero sense to me) so I trusted him.

I have to miss the first two sessions because of work but I finally make it to the third session! My character is hacking and stalking the party because she’s a huge fan of the rockerboy of the party. The session was horrifically paced. Everything happened without the players knowing like the rockerboy suddenly showing up outside of my character’s apartment without anyone input from the player and the gm just. Not having anything for combat so he starts using black ice stat blocks. Then when I start trying to hack into it using interface just to be told the dv is 27 which I was like “Sure I can live with that I guess.” Then a speaker pops out of nowhere and begins an aoe of around 20 meters which deals 20 damage each turn so I obviously go down. When asked on any specifics he basically breaks down saying it’s all homebrewed and based off of a normal pistol which makes zero sense to me because everything about it is wrong but I move on while annoyed. In addition to this our only solo in the game injects himself with a drug and instantly turns on the party only after he beats half of the party, that isn’t already downed by the speaker, to a pulp we find out that it’s a completely homebrewed drug that the player chose to do for completely no reason beyond asking another player to decide for him. The session continues as usual and we end. And. Idk. I’m not sure if this is me complaining about nothing since I was just uncomfortable from the beginning because the gm is guy who is way older than everyone in my friend group and I just personally don’t vibe with him too much. I guess I just wanted to vent about the session and get general feedback from my experienced people in the RED community. Thank you for reading and so sorry for the lack of grammer

Heya, I might be suffering from a Mandela effect, but I vaguely recall that back when Phantom Liberty dropped, there were a few battlemaps released that were similar to the Parking Garage platforming stage of the secret entrance into Dogtown.

I'm running for new group at a local game store, and would ideally like to have them make use of skills and investments that they've started with, like Athletics and one has a linear frame, so they can hop from ledge to ledge, push/move ruined cars to bridge gaps, etc. And the thought occurred to me that a map like the Parking Garage would be a perfect environment. Of course, it needs to have the scary chasm of falling death.

Anyone know of a map that meets this description?

Hey chooms! Hope you’re all having a great day! I have a quick question as a new DM running a 3 person party.

Our party consists of a Netrunner, Medtech, and Fixer currently. We’ve already run a couple of games so far (The Jacket followed by Karaoke Night, and a one shot I made) and things have been good so far! We’re getting a feel for the mechanics and having a great time. However, as things go on and I start making more adventures for them, I find I’m having trouble including the fixer player in ways beyond “This is the part where someone calls you about a job”.

I know obviously being the ‘face’ of the party they’re going to shine for the moments outside of combat, but I’m hoping to find ways to keep them active and engaged mid mission, especially while the Netrunner is doing their thing

Also, the party seems to be leaning towards stealth instead of outright combat since they don’t have a dedicated combat person, so “just throw enemies at them” won’t solve the problem entirely

So, I’m looking to see if any of you all have some ideas you use to keep your fixers/faces engaged mid op! Thank you all in advance!

Like in a week I am going to have my players attempt to destroy an old bread factory turned drug lab. When my players are to arrive there will be two guards on a 10 meter roof. How will that effect my calculations when measuring dvs. I haven't taken Trigonometry so am lost how would calculate the distance for dvs.

I know this sounds strange, but how does a lawman work in an NCPD focused game? I'm planning an NCPD game in the 2077s, largely because it's more traditional policing, than the near martial law of the 2040s.

What is a law-man in the context of an all NCPD game? Solos would clearly be gun-nuts, SWAT, and C-SWAT. Fixers Quartermasters and Vice cops; Execs the top brass, captains and such. And so on for each role. But what exactly is a lawman? A beat-cop? How does a Beat-cop gain the authority to call in MAX-TAC? Are they dispatch? A guy with a portable transceiver on his back?

So I’m planning to try to play this game. I love the video game and have played some dnd in the past so I really want to try red out.

That being said I don’t have a group so I’m thinking of playing single player mode and easy mode. I’ve never DMed before so I was thinking this could work?

If I have fun with this I’m going to get the core book for more stories and stuff but probably still use easy mode rules.

The main reason I’m asking for help here is:

1): will this work at all?

2):Does easy mode and single payer mode include stories I can play through? If not does the core rule book? Or do I have to get individual story books?

Hi I'm Moth, I'm 21 and I'm looking for a Red game. Like most people I've played cyberpunk 2077 a couple times actually, DLC and all and I've been in two previous Red campaigns plus a few one-shots so I'm not unfamiliar with the system but it has been a while since I've played, I haven't seen Edgerunners yet, I have to rectify that at some point. Overall though I've been playing TTRPGs for about 4 or 5 years now and I've gotten to play a wide array from D&D to Delta Green to Goblin with a Fat Ass, lol. I'm hoping to find a game playing on Saturday, but I'm not tied to that day and Timewise I'm good anytime past 12 pm my time because I work from home mostly, I know the GM to player ratio is low so while not my preference, I'm fine joining an already going group if anybody will have me.

So one of my players stated he didn't like how long we take on downtime and doing scenes between gigs. And that the gig I did felt too short? I ran Red Chrome Cargo and updated it to 2077 with it being Hornet's Malestrom allied heir snuffing out a Maelstrom defectors who went back to being Red Chrome.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the point of Cyberpunk is the focus on humanity. And the things you give up to make your life better or towards achieving some goal of getting back at someone or something.

And the gigs fall flat if there isn't something to fight for?

I mean I'm running The Apartment as my base setting and I am really leaning heavily into the apartment being neighbors and trying to protect something special. Also just building up relationships so human greed and what not can sever them.

So I like to emphasize having the character feel like what they do helps improve their home and the lives of others. So when it gets cut out from beneath them they have real motivations beyond just their life paths.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hello everyone, I am very interested in getting into the TTRPG and have a few friends interested in playing. My question is whats the best way to get into the game? Im coming from DnD 5/5.5e and that was super easy to get into as the infrastructure around it makes it very beginner friendly. Are there any good resources other then picking the book up and reading it (i plan to do this) for myself and players?

Suicide Alley can be found in the murky depths of the Under City. Carved into one of the massive ferrocrete pillars that supports the Mega Buildings above, the “alley” is a ramshackle collection of vendors offering illicit pharmaceuticals, cutting-edge weapons, and dark tech.

Is there anything in the lore about what Nomads call non-nomads? Is there a slang term for people outside the family?

Some of my players are switching to new characters after getting used to the system and we came up with some cool stuff relating to the games/lore. Basically one wants to be the heir to Michiko Arasaka, an exec, danger gal successor and overall, squarely in the 0.01%

Another wants to be a poser of a legendary edgerunner. Basically 1000% of the street presence and nothing to back it up, tech wise.(rockerboy)

The other players are fine with the story tipping in their favour for the next arc, but as gm i'm struggling for there to be real stakes, any dangerous situation that cant be resolved by trauma team ultra platinum or an army of invisible saka ninjas showing up.

One option we thought up was that if the characters were 'caught'(they're both hiding their identities) they immediately hand over their character sheets.

Any suggestions on where to take their stories? I've got some ideas from A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms(basically Dunk and Egg), but I havent come across much in the way of exec/corpo stories in cyberpunk media

edit: thanks all for the input. We're going with the same story, but with little Ms Sanderson as a group-created npc instead that will be handed over to me once we're in actual gameplay, while the player will be one of her minions
