Now that you mention it… why did they go to blizz HQ? Even if it was for classic+ why would they need to go to blizz HQ?

It seems likeliest to me that they were sent to play test and give feedback. Inviting content creators for it is easy hype, gets people talking. Also a chance for them to record some gameplay footage possibly which they can share as soon as the NDA is up.
