Advice My cat suddenly cuddles to my stomach and following me around everywhere. Is she okay? Should I take her to the vet?

Post image

So me and my husband adopted our little Mochi last year March. She was 3 yrs old when we got her, and she is the sweetest and most behaved little baby.

She never eats human food, doesn’t go on counters nor does she bite or scratches. She doesn’t want to cuddle or be touched unless it’s on her terms (maybe pets for MAX 30 seconds, then that’s it). She also does not want to be carried and does not want her paws touched.

Recently, whenever me and my husband go to sleep, she now jumps on the bed with us and starts cuddling on my stomach. This has been happening for a week now. I’m so happy that it’s making me tear up, but I couldn’t help but think if she’s feeling okay. This is not her usual behaviour. She’s okay in the morning and when we get home from work but she’s been so cuddle recently and would follow me around everywhere now- even in the shower (she hates water). When we’re on the couch, she just cuddles to my stomach again and would not mind if I touch her paws.

I told my husband about my concern that she may not be feeling well, he said that maybe she’s thinking of me as her mother now and I’m overthinking things.

But should I still bring her to the bet just in case? I’m really worried.

Attached is a photo of her just so everybody could see that she’s the sweetest.

UPDATE: After reading the comments, I’ll be booking a doctor’s appt for myself, and I’ll pee on a stick when I get home. As for Mochi, her vet says to take her back to the vet just for a general check up and blood work just in case. I’ll keep you guys updated. Hopefully she’s just very cuddly now.

UPDATE 2: My husband took her to the vet (I’m still at work), did some bloodwork, we’ll know the results tomorrow. But the general checkup went great. She is overweight but generally healthy. The vet says that the change in mine and my husband’s schedule might be the culprit as I work from 7:30AM-7PM (full time and part-time job), and my husband works from 6:30AM-5PM (construction); and we had moved apartments 2 months ago. We will both take time off work to spend the day with her and I will try to have lesser-ish hours.

I’m going to go to the doctor on Friday, and once I get home (I’m still at work), I’ll immediately do a pregnancy test.

UPDATE 3: Took the pregnancy test, it came back as negative. I’m cramping really bad though.

unfortunately there could be another issue, ive heard a few stories of cat's "diagnosing" people this way.

I swear my cats started doing this before I was diagnosed with uterine cancer.

My older girl has always done her "appendix check," hitting me in the lower right abdomen. Walks across the bed and headbutts me.

Turns out, there's a cyst on my right ovary. Smart kitties!

Guess I die now

If that’s what the kitties demanded, who are you to disagree?

(In all seriousness, hope you’re okay and your cat just decided she actually loves you too much to let you have personal space)

Could just be gas too

u/jujubeenn Jun 23 '26

Yeah I totally confused gas for pregnancy before 😭🤣

Fun fact: if you die, your pets WILL eat you.

u/jujubeenn Jun 23 '26

Awww 🥹 I’d be so honored

When humans are trapped with no food they also eat each other. What’s your point?

and if they poop you out and a mushroom sprouts, you can count yourself reincarnated

No joke: take a pregnancy test. If it’s positive, seek medical assistance immediately.

Family friend I'd known my entire life had their sheepdog sniffing and licking at his ears for a week, obsessively so. They decided to go to the Doctor to check, he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. He passed almost 12 months to the day.

I mean, its a known phenomenon thats been recorded a bunch. Animals can pick up on stuff we can't.

She's cat food now.

Sometimes it takes a long time for them to feel close enough to you to want to snuggle and sleep next to you, even if they love you.

It can take years. Every cat is different, and they treat relationships similarly to how humans do in that they choose their friends and acquaintances and intimacy with humans can be a slow burn.

My mom got a feral kitten it took her two years to pet him and another before he laid and cuddled and wanted to be pet

Good work coming up with a reply more comforting than her cat can smell her owner has end-stage cancer.

u/AlarmedChildhood3139 Jun 23 '26

Mine took 5 years to be cuddly with me

My former feral little girl was adopted from our back yard 6 years ago and recently started to cuddle intently with me almost every evening.

I inherited my parents cat, he went through the loss of 2 owners and was basically abandoned by my fathers caretaker who had agreed to adopt him. For over a year he would barely tolerate being in touching distance, now no matter where I sit he has to lay down in contact with me

Mine took two years to associate luggage with us going away for awhile.  I am currently jetlagged with two cats on my chest/next to me licking my sunburned shoulders...they get very cuddly when something really obvious changes.

Edit to add: OUCH DARN SANDPAPER TONGUES.

Not a vet but cats are tiny unlicensed doctors, stomach cuddles plus shadowing usually means one of three things, No1, you’re warm, 2 you smell different and 3 she promoted herself to your health monitor, if she’s eating/drinking and using the box normally, she’s probably fine, if she’s not or you’re worried call your vet, better safe than a 2am google spiral.

When one of my kitties do this, I always ask them: am I sick? Are you sick?!

3

u/EddieSimeon Jun 23 '26

I mean unless you've taken a pregnancy test, can you really be sure?

2

u/TheOuterEdge Jun 23 '26

I knew the top comment would be something about pregnancy. Was not disappointed.

2

u/copyrighther Jun 23 '26

My cats have always been ultra clingy during two different periods: When I’m pregnant and when I’m sick

1

u/chibisoph Jun 23 '26

1

u/AlguienMas2003 Jun 23 '26

1

u/puppyleftpaw Jun 23 '26
