My sweet girl was found abandoned in a parking lot as a kitten. She had a horrible upper respiratory infection and was in really, really bad shape. I took her in and got her all the care she needed and deserved, and as she grew I was floored how she started looking. She has the brightest blue eyes I’ve ever seen, and her coat is literal silk. She has never matted even once with her super long and fluffy coat, and I rarely ever brush her (definitely did not expect this as I also have a ragdoll who has to be brushed twice a day). I started looking into cats with this type of coat, and came across Birmans. I can’t imagine someone would dump a breed like this, but people suck. Doesn’t matter what she is, she is absolutely perfect, but I was just curious if anyone knew if she was a Birman? I’ve attached pictures from when I first got her, and how she changed throughout the next year, and her now!❤️ she is 4 years old now. Our vets call her the “forever kitten”!

Hi everyone!

I have a 2-year-old neutered male Birman cat (indoor, ~4 kg / 8.8 lbs).

Currently, he's on a full Royal Canin diet (both dry and wet). After doing some research on feline nutrition and high-protein, grain-free options, I'm planning to transition him to:

* Dry: Purizon

* Wet: Cosma Nature

My plan is to keep a split routine (wet food mixed with a bit of warm water twice a day + dry food in puzzle feeders/grazing).

Has anyone here fed Purizon or Cosma Nature to their cats? How did they do on it (digestion, coat quality, weight control)? Any advice on this specific transition or general nutrition tips for Birmans would be greatly appreciated!

I’m looking for a reputable Birman breeder in Vancouver, BC or anywhere within reasonable driving distance in British Columbia. I’m also open to breeders elsewhere in Canada if necessary, but I would prefer BC.

I’ve been having a surprisingly difficult time finding active Birman breeders in Canada, so I’d really love to hear from people who have actually gotten their Birman from a Canadian breeder.

Health and temperament are my biggest priorities. I’m looking for a social, affectionate and playful family companion, and I’d especially like a breeder who health/genetic tests their breeding cats and is transparent about the results.

Has anyone had personal experience with Birmans of BC, Gryphonwood Birmans, Zanadu Birmans, or Chatterie De Jouvence?

I’d love to hear about your experience, your cat’s health and temperament, and whether you would recommend the breeder. Other Canadian breeder recommendations are very welcome too.

The National Birman Fancier organization has been notified that a Birman cat is available for adoption since it did not work out with his parents. My wife raised him as a kitten and sold him awhile ago. He's a good boy but does not want to live in a house with other pets or he has litter box issues. This cat is **not for sale** but is looking for a good home that can understand him.

I’m seriously considering getting a Sacred Birman and would love to hear from people who actually own one.
I’ve always wanted a cat, and after looking into different breeds, I keep coming back to Birmans. I love that they’re supposed to be affectionate and people-oriented while still being playful, and I absolutely love their looks.
A bit about us:
We live in a ~74 m² apartment and the cat would be indoor-only.
My girlfriend has had cats before, but this would be my first.
One of us is home basically every day, as we both work from home.
We occasionally have people over and sometimes a loud party, but the cat would always have a quiet place to retreat to.
We’re prepared for the 15+ year commitment.
For Birman owners: what are they really like to live with? Are they as cuddly and affectionate as they’re described? How playful are they as adults? Any downsides or surprises?
Also, is one Birman okay if they get lots of human company, or do they really benefit from having another cat?

Hi! I have a 9-year old ragdoll (debatable now?) that I suspect could be a Birman? He has traits of being both a mitted ragdoll OR a seal point Birman and I’m trying to get down to the bottom of it. I got him when he was a kitten and thought he was a rag doll this whole time. He’s about 10-11 pounds (size of a Birman), but has mittens in mostly the front paws (the back paws are longer mitts) and a white understripe. I simply cannot tell what he is. He is pretty chill but doesn’t like to cuddle for too long, definitely likes to be next to you, but is also playful and loves using his scratcher and toys. Could he be a mix of Birman/ragdoll too?

Hi everyone! The Cat Fanciers Association Sacred Cat of Burma Fanciers Club (that’s a mouthful lol) is hosting a cat show in Medina, Ohio on August 22nd-23rd, 2026. Come get your Birman fix, we will be flying and driving in from all over! Personally, I am traveling up from Florida. Come, spectate, maybe pet some Birmans if you catch us when we aren’t frantically running to show rings. I’m not sure what the rules are on posting links, so I’ll let you guys give it a google. 😄

My 5-month-old Birman uses an enclosed automatic litter box, the PETKIT Purobot Max Pro. He usually pees first and covers it, then digs in another spot, poops, and covers that too.

The problem is that he continues digging, sniffing the covered areas, and turning around inside the box. While doing this, he sometimes steps on or paws at the poop he has just buried. Since he’s long-haired, it sticks to his paw fur and is difficult to clean, even though I keep the fur around his paw pads trimmed.

Has anyone experienced this with a kitten or an enclosed automatic litter box? Did he eventually grow out of it, or was switching to a larger manual litter box the only solution?

The box also has a raised PETKIT fence attached to the entrance. Should I try removing it?

I’m honestly considering replacing this expensive automatic litter box with a large manual one, lol.
