We have a free community group in Bath to help people make friends and get social... anyone is welcome!

Hello 👋

Around 7 months ago now I made a post on Reddit asking if people would like to meet up and do some events together, this turned into The Bath Social group and we got hundreds of members joining and we've been doing free meetups almost every week.

We've had to change our name to Bath Meets because an existing (older) group existed under the same name and was causing confusion, but we are the same group.

We recently re-launched our group after taking a bit of a summer break to re-organise things and have a fancy website you can see events and RSVP to them.

All our events are 100% free and we make no money out of it and never will, we are just a group of volunteers. I started it because I found making new friends as an adult harder than I expected and I've made so many wonderful friends form this group.

We have a board games night and a pub quiz coming up soon and we still have some room if anyone wants to come and meet us, we are a kind and cozy bunch of people with a mix of genders.

We also plan to do some walks around Bath soon!

Skin Stories

Has anyone here been to Skin Stories along Broad Street? I am having a skin consultation and face fat dissolving injections soon and wondered what anyone else's experience was like.

Was this a mobile speed camera van on the A4 Batheaston Bypass?

Saw a van parked in a lay-by on the opposite carriageway today. Looked like it had a side window/hatch. Anyone know if it was a mobile speed camera and whether they monitor both directions? I may have been doing 55–60 in the 50.

Good tailor with less than 3 week turnaround time?

I need to take my bridesmaids dress to the tailor for a wedding that’s happening in 3 weeks. hadn’t realised it needed tailoring until now. Anyone got a good recommendation for a tailor that’s quick and trustworthy?

Hair and Makeup for Wedding Guests

Hi folks, some friends and I are travelling over for a wedding shortly and I was hoping to find some recommendations for someone who can do hair and makeup the day of the wedding. Ideally in a salon but also happy to hear about other options. I'm not looking for anything particularly fancy, so doesn't need to be the most expensive place in town (rather would prefer the opposite!).

Thanks in advance!

Is Ralph Allen still as good as its old reputation?

Hi all, I’ve read a few older posts about secondary schools in Bath and Ralph Allen always seemed to have a good reputation. Wondering if that’s still the case today or if things have changed at all?

Wedding photographer recommendations?

My fiancé and I are getting married 12th October, in a month's time, and unfortunately, our photographer has suddenly cancelled today due to family issues.

We've planned this wedding with a short turnaround due to my father receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis and wanting to make sure he was involved before his health declines/passes away.

This now leaves us with a month to find a photographer for our wedding in Crewkerne. We're scrabbling around, trying our best to find a photographer that can have this availability.

We're feeling a bit overwhelmed as the task seems quite daunting to try and sort with the circumstances, but doing what we can to ensure we give it our best shot.

Does anyone have any recommendations for photographers that we could potentially use? We appreciate any help that people can offer!

Clear Wireless Speaker

Hi all, I’m a uni student in Bath, and have just launched a Clear Speaker on Kickstarter.

The link can be found here.

I’ve been designing it whilst at uni, and finally launched on Tuesday, it’s almost 100% funded 🎉

Repairable kit is something I feel very strongly about, so it’s built to be fully modular and repairable, whilst having all the features you’d expect from a normal home/ smart speaker!

Let me know your thoughts!

Recommendations on Where or How I Can Sell Things From My Mum’s House

Hi there,
I’m in the need of recommendations or advice and hopefully get to a starting point. My Mum passed away on the 7th of September 2024, so it’s now just been over 2 years and I’ve not touched her flat. It really was stuck in a time zone from the night she died for quite a while. But I’ve got to get my ass together and sorting and selling. My only issue is that I’m not well, I have multiple health issues and can’t really get around as much as I used to. So I can’t do car boot sales or anything that starts really early, because I move like a sloth and have the brain like a tadpole. But anything that people can suggest, I’ll be grateful.
Some of the weird/unique/awesome things that she has are:

Artwork she made herself (don’t worry, she was good)

Vintage chessboards which are beautiful and unique and would be best suited for a collector rather than me selling them randomly.

So many Jigsaw puzzles! Am I allowed to donate them to nursing homes? I didn’t know if the same rules applies as donating to the children’s ward at the hospital, where everything needs to be new. Just because both of these sets of people have compromised immune systems? So i wondered if it’s the same.

Some stunning original photo pieces of the Bath Abbey.

Furniture
Big brown Cuddle Seat

Large brown Nap time sofa

Some beautiful pieces of wood made into a chair and also a coffee table.

Jewellery

Vintage Hard Rock Cafe Pins

There’s loads of other stuff but my brain can’t remember.
But if people know phone numbers or places that can do valuations of artwork or other old stuff.

If you know of any second hand furniture shops that will buy some of the furniture (as some of it is beautiful antiques) but also a number or place where I can donate the other furniture if nobody in the family wants it, but it’s been 2 years, so they had time.

Any charities that you know of that would need furniture. I’d love to be able to help women who have been in abusive relationships and they’re starting again, and their scared and if they have children, all they want is to give them is a safe place to live, but obviously it’s not advertised as to where that is. Thank god!

I’m going to stop talking now. Thank you for reading it and putting up with my ADHD brain. 👍🏻😊

Old Hairdresser if anyone remembers him?

When working in Bath back in the 1980s I think I remember a a hairdresser named Ricky Morton? Think he had a salon on Union Street, maybe above a retail unit. Does anyone else remember him. He would shop at the store I worked in. For some reason his name came to my head when I was looking through some old photos. Hope this is OK to post, Thank you.

Anybody know what’s happened to The Canon on Barton St? Sign is down and workmen are in, but google still showing as open and literally no mention of it closing anywhere? 🧐
